IDE :: Slow Dynamic Content Loading In IE?

Nov 17, 2009

This is really weird and I have no idea what could be causing this.I have this simple Flash site:

http:[url]....The main interface is loaded, and then it starts to preload a few external JPG images.The problem is that with IE it is taking about FOUR times (or even more) the time to load the same pictures with FF. In a slow connection such as a 128K the main interface takes the same time to load either on FF aswel IE - about 5-10 seconds. Then, it starts loading the external pictures - in FF it will take about 20 seconds more and in IE it will take about 80 seconds more. It is clear to me that the problem is not in the site loading itself, but in the contents loading. I can't see what in the browser could be interfering in the SWF, unless that the IE Flash plugin have some known (or unknown!) bug regarding to MovieClipLoader!

The only thing I can have in mind, is that I am not terminating the listeners in the onLoadComplete events, so theoretically they would be keeping the CPU busy even after the pictures finish to load (I spawn about 30 listeners, one for each picture). However, I doubt that this is the reason or else it would make FF slow down too, indeed? Also I noticed that when running the application in the authoring environment (control+ENTER) but loading contents from remote server, it have the same behavior as when loaded within IE (slow loading).

ActionScript 3.0 :: Loading Swf With Dynamic Content Into Scrollpane

Aug 5, 2009

I have been working on a file for a while now and I am trying to load an external swf into a scrollpane. The external swf gets all its content from an xml file (there is nothing on the stage, it's all done through as3) My problem is that when I load the swf into the scrollpane I don't get the scroll bars and most of my content is cut off. I have tried setting the scroll policy to auto, and true, neither helped. Can anybody tell me what I am doing wrong?

Flash Movie Loading In Dynamic Content Which Is Controlled By A CMS?

May 31, 2011

The images are uploaded with an html form onto the server and their path names are loaded into a .txt file for my flash AS to use.The problem I am having seems to be either server lag or browser issues (catching perhaps?).I manage my content via the CMS and once returning to the flash movie it is either old content, half working or just doesn't work, period.What is interesting is that once I locate the text file and view/refresh it manually, it works 100% fine. Now, it's obviously not a very useful set up if I have to manually refresh my txt files so is there a way, (php?, Java? etc?) to refresh these files?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Dynamic Loading Of Content In One Long Sliding Sprite

May 26, 2009

I am building a long timeline (50-100 entries) dynamically from XML. An entry can have either text or image or both. They all have the same distance from each other but they have different widths.  there will be a slider at the bottom to quickly bring the user from one end of the timeline to the other end.

It's an interface that's similar to the aiga design archives. [URL]

The main difficulty I see is to dynamically load content that is currently visible first and content that is 'offscreen' later (or even unloading it if it enhances performance, does it?)  I could try to figure out the math... but I know from experience that I get major headaches from such undertakings...

The second difficult task will be to determine the width of all entries before displaying them.. Is there a way in as3 to find out how wide an image is before completely loading it?  Hmm that sounds a little unrealistic, but I thought I'd ask anyway

I am looking for an as3 class or library that could assist me in building this, mainly detecting if an entry is visible or not, or even better which entries are visible or not. Has anyone seen any as3 libraries related to such an interface?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Bandwidth Profile And FLVs - Slow To Show Alternate Content (JPGs)?

Dec 22, 2010

I'm working on a video header that will cycle through 4 12 sec videos. The idea is if the connection speed is too slow to show alternate content (JPGs). Based on previous code I've used with LoaderMax think I have it figured out. I think the normal bandwidth profiler in flash ignores FLVs and just shows them as loaded ASAP. Is there another tool out there for this that accurately works when loading external FLVs?

I have a Wordpress website located here: http:[url]....I'm trying to figure out why the page loads slow - I'm almost sure it has to do with Flash and size of images, plus rotating banner. I don't know how to edit or fix the problem though. So the question is: What is causing my website to load slow, and what EXACT steps can I take to fix the problem.I've already tried adjusting some of the browser ActiveX filters and other temp fixes, but that is not the proper solution. If this is a flash or image loading issue, can you tell me the EXACT step in how to edit these issues?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Smooth, Slow Dynamic Text Animation?

Dec 22, 2009

I have dynamic text that needs to animate slowly across the screen but right now it jerks in 1 pixel increments as compared to the vector graphics accompanying it.

I've increased the frame rate, converted it to a bitmap, applied GridFitType, etc., none of which (or my implementation) seemed to work.

Is there a way to achieve smooth animation with dynamic text at slow animation speeds?

Media Server :: Very Slow Connecting Loading And Serving?

May 24, 2009

We have installed Flash Media Server on a Linux machine.It has 2GB of RAM,Fedora 9 with kernel 2.6.27.5-41.fc9.i686, the install required a few packages (compat-expat1 was one) to be installed before we saw the sample page. The sample page takes a few minutes to load and opening the page to connect to the admin console is about the same.

This is currently on our internal network while we try and see how it works. Are there any specifc TCP related kernel tuning parameters (eg in sysctl.conf) which need to be put in place over and above the out-of-box configuration. Any troubleshooting hints which might identify the problem. The install seemed ok nothing in /var/log/messages and checking to see what is running (ps aux | grep fms) I see

./fmsmaster -silent/opt/adobe/fms/Apache2.2/bin/httpd -f ./conf/httpd.conf -d /opt/adobe/fms/Apache2.2 -k start/opt/adobe/fms/fmsedge -edgeports :80,1935 -coreports localhost:19350 -conf /opt/adobe/fms/conf/Server.xml -adaptor _defaultRoot_ -name[code]....

but when we clear our browser cache and go to a page it is taking forever.It is taking about 5 minutes to open up the initial page, but when it is open the videos all seem to come through fine.The server previously had apache on it but I removed that copy and went with the version included with FMS.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Loading External SWF Via Menu - Slow / Sluggish

Mar 25, 2011

I'm creating an application where the user uses the Arrow Keys to navigate around the menus and Spacebar to continue. On the first screen is the main menu that launches external swf's. (I have it as an exe). When I play the external swfs individually in the Flash Player.......the navigation is perfect and runs smoothly. But when I launch the external swf's through the first screen (menu).....the loaded swf becomes very slow/sluggish to react when I hit the Arrow Keys. (E.g. have to hit the arrow key 3/4 times before it moves). The frame rate in each fla is the exact same. I use the levels to launch the external swf. I have also used the "load into an empty movieclip" and the outcome is still the same. I'm using CS5.

ActionScript 2.0 :: XML Loading, Dynamic Buttons, Dynamic Text Fields?

Jun 7, 2006

I can't get the code to "know" which of the dynamic thumbnails has been clicked (by "know", I mean return an index value, say 0 through 7 if there are 8 projects, that I can use to access that particular project in the array of 8 projects in the rest of the code)... So if the third movieclip thumbnail were clicked, I'd like "2" to come up somehow... I've tried this code, which is kind of lame, I know, based off of the idea of each of the thumbnail movieclips' names ending in their index number:

Code:
//"this" is the button that was pressed; would return a string ending in
//thumberMC_<number of whichever movieclip thumb was clicked>
var: testString:String = this;

[code]....

Lastly, there's a dynamic textfield I'm trying to create that never shows up for some reason. Again, you could see in the FLA (in the "createDrawer" function around line 424).

ActionScript 2.0 :: CS3 Dynamic Content From ASP Page

Aug 5, 2009

I am attempting to dynamically display a series of questions with answers in my flash movie from an existing ASP page. Initially, the dynamic questions imported from an ASP page appear on the Flash page (question 1, 2, 3, etc.). When the user clicks on a question, the flash movie advances a frame and displays the answer. I can display the questions properly, but I am having a difficult time carrying over the question ID to the next frame so that the appropriate answer will display.

The current database fields look like this:

-QuestionID
-Question
-AnswerID
-Answer

This is very simple to do in ASP or PHP but I am having a tough time trying to tie everything together in Flash. Should I create two separate ASP pages, one to query the questions and one to query the answers? How do I carry the QuestionID to the next frame in Flash?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Masking Dynamic Content?

Feb 3, 2009

I'm loading images into an otherwise empty MovieClip called container_mc using UILoaders and spacing them horizontally. I also have the image names as TextFields below the images all within the container. I'm masking the container clip using the following syntax:

container_mc.cacheAsBitmap = true;
mask_mc.cacheAsBitmap = true;
container_mc.mask = mask_mc;

This USUALLY works, but for some reason when I load over 20 images into the container -- the mask no longer works. At first it appears as though it's working but then the text disappears and when I mouse over the images to scroll them horizontally, the mask (which is magenta) appears and disappears -- flickering strangely. Should I be caching? I was under the impression I had to for the dynamic text to show up. Maybe it's the where I placed the code (load-order)?
