In flash I want to parse the string that I get from the database and look for URL strings that start with http "http://www.someurl.com" and parse out that substring.
For example the string could be "Please vist my site at http://www.site.com". I would want to parse out the http://www.site.com
If I find this url string I want to pre-pend the a href tag <a> and append the closing </a> tag to the string so that this link will be clickable from the textfield.
Does flash have an object that deals with Regular Expressions? I've looked at the String object in flash but not sure how to achieve this task

is it crossbrowser ? the reason i ask is that i save the data in a Mysql database and when the data return to flash i see "" in the debugger so, i think flash uses the "" newline format, but before i add the data into the database i want to parse the data with php

eg :
Code: dateArray:Array = [["user1","1-5-2007"],["user1","13-5-2007"],["user10","21-5-2007"]];
then I loop the array to search the data I want to return to another function...my problem is how to format the date value in array to become this format before I can make a comparison with this value....
5/21/2007--> this value got from this current date
so the problem is how to convert the value in array from this format
21-5-2007 to this 5/21/2007 for all the values....the data I load from dtbase actually that's why it store that kind of format....

Aug 23, 2009good function for parsing a string in as3 to remove all characters that are not alphanumeric (and ideally being able to add a few more characters such as _ )
I want to use it to check user input before sending it to PHP (which checks it as well but I would like to have the user side ie flash check it first).
I am sure I could write it by creating an array of the characters I want it limited to and working through each character in the user input and removing those that don't match; but this seems slow and cumbersome.
Alternatively passing it to PHP and having that use its string functions to check then pass back to flash; but I would rather it done purely on the Flash side.

Jan 12, 2005I'm trying to make my portfolio XML-driven. What I'm trying to do is similiar to a photogallery. The difference is that I want "sub pictures" to every item in the gallery. Example: If I click on a project name in the portfolio an image should appear. Then I want to be able to browse between different images within that project. When I click on a another project a different set of pictures will be loaded.My XML file looks as exemplified below. What I'm having troubles figuring out how to do is getting the array right.I want to access the data something like this:
imageArray[0].path[1] would return "http://www.pic.com/picA1.jpg"
imageArray[0].title returns "Title A"
I fail to parse the XML into an multidimensional array like this..

Flex :: Parse String Pattern Into Date?
Dec 22, 2009Is there some way in flex to parse strings to date. I want it to support custom formats similar to 'dateformatter'. Using 'dateformatter' class we can parse date object in various string formats as specified by 'formatString property'. I want it other way round, from string to date. The parse method 'Date.parse(my_string)' does string parsing but for a very limited set of formats. Can't we have something similar to following, where user can specify his/her own formats.
someformatter.formatString = 'HH::MM::SS' ;
mydate = someformatter.formatTodate('23::56:34');
Will 'parseDateString' method of dateformatter be useul here?
Regex :: How To Parse String (Similar To Path)
Mar 4, 2010I have a string that is similar to a path, but I have tried some regex patterns that are supposed to parse paths and they don't quite work.
Here's the string

I need the "name parts" between the slashes.
I tried (w+) but the array came back [0] = "f" and [1] = "f".
I tested the pattern on [URL] and it seems to work correctly.
Here's the AS code:

Nov 16, 2009Recently, whenever I open up the program I get an XML parse error in the output window that reads: *** XML Parsing Errors ***Line 4157: The name attribute was not found on the string element <string playername="" tiptext="Specifies that the gradient use the reflect sprea... Line 4164: The tipText attribute was not found on the string element <string playername="" ti`text="Lets the user drag the specified sprite." This is not specific to any .fla file, but seems to be related to Flash itself. The program seems to work fine otherwise. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Aug 22, 2011what if u want to parse a whole html table into flash and turn each colunm into an actionscript 3 array? flash doesnt know how many rows the table has, but i could print the number of rows in the same page as the html table, and make it parse the number of rows from the same page after a urlrequest the first step is to probably make a php page with my database splayed out as a table, maybe with

numrows=2 and so on as table entries, and then have flash urlrequest the page i can do that, but i dont know how to parse each column into an actionscript 3 array but it only shows how to parse one value, not a whole array:[URL]

How can I do this?I just want to remove all those hyphens from the String and convert it to a date value.The dateFormatter function accepts only date values in the format mm/dd/yyyy. used regex and removed all those hyphens,from the String. Now in an array I have the values, 20,Aug and 2008. How to proceed after that to convert to 20/08/2008?

so in the string above, i would like myString to display "One year consists of 12 consecutive Months", but i'm new to AS3 and do not know how to properly format a string. i'm sure that i'll have to cast the number variable into a string, string(myNumber), but i don't know if casting a movie clip variable to a string, string(myMovieClip), will return the name of the movie clip or produce an error. i'm willing to bet on the later.

However, I need to allow the field to be human enter-able so they can type in a date.The problem is, most users want to type the format MM/DD/YYYY. I have a tool tip that shows the format, but how can I check the format and change it to the YYYY-MM-DD format, or do something else appropriate (alert?)?

This Strings are set as the text value in a spark TextArea. What I'd like to achieve is that
A. the text gets highlighted and
B. the user can click it and it opens in the systems browser.
Using the StyleableTextField throws a typerror on Flex 4.6. I tried the simplest HTML text like this:
StyleableTextField(newsStoryArea.textDisplay).htmlText = "TextArea <b>bold</b><i>italic</i>."
Which throws;
TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert

I have also created a new textStyle as below:

I don't want to have to apply this format to all the text fields separately.

Apr 27, 2010I've got a line in my Actionscript like this:[code]If I click the auto format button with this line in there, it adds unnecessary semicolons through the rest of the code and the file stops working. Is there something wrong with the way I have this coded? It works just fine with the code in there before I hit the auto format button.
