I have my stuff set up and everything works fine except for a very strange glitch. When I use the internal IP address (192.168.###.###) from a machine on the internal network, it works fine. When I use the external IP address (209.###.###.### which eventually maps to that internal IP address) from a machine out in the world, like at home or a hotel or a clients site, it works fine. But, when I use the external IP address from a machine on the internal network, everything works except the flv file doesn't stream. The HTML page displays, the swf player displays, but the flv file doesn't stream; the swf player displays the message "Connection Error. Please press Play to try again."
What could possibly make this happen? To me, it seems impossible. Could there be a setting in FMS that would cause this sort of thing? I very much doubt it is a firewall issue, because if it were, then the file wouldn't stream from outside the firewall.

I just wrote a P2P video chat similiar to the Cirrus example application on my web site. It works great, as long as both users manually open the ports required for RTMFP. Naturally this is a deal breaker for me - since no one will use it. What is the standard solution in this case? Should I publish the instructions of how to open the ports on different firewalls? Should I write a small batch file to be downloaded that programmatically opens the ports? Is there a different (commercial) tool that allows me to bypass it in any other way?

I'm new to Flash and AS3, but with the help of many examples I have managed to created a scripted movie using some time lapse photography. I load the images from an XML file and use an event listener to add each image as a child of a movie clip. As the number of children grew, it caused the frame rate to slow, so I figured out that I could remove them after they were viewed and just keep looping through the array.
This works great on the local machine and when served up from the web server behind the firewall. However, if I try to access the file from outside the firewall, it loads the first image or two very slowly (if at all) then hangs. I've performed a net stat from the server and noticed that it is opening an inordinate number of connections to the remote client on various client ports (from 6 to 60+).

The instructions for installation only cover installation on "localhost". I'm wondering if I could use the development server for a small scale website depolyment with restricted traffic, from a commercial server, such as goDaddy? And if so, what''s the method? Do I download the package from Adobe to my local hard drive and install over the network, or copy the package to the server and install it online?

I have installed and ran FMS Development Server 3.5 on my Fedora 15 x32 for a long while now. Everything works fine. However, recently I found out about the upgrades for the server. So I downloaded all of them (3.5.2 - 3.5.7)... the current version I have is 3.5.1... and it works fine. Installing any of the new upgrade versions on the server works fine... and when starting the server doesn't give any errors.
In /var/logs/messages it says:
Server starting...
Server started (/opt/adobe/fms/conf/Server.xml).
however, checking the binding of my IP address, it shows no bindings to ports 80 and 1935. The admin server works successfully because I can see binding to port 1111.Whenever I run my test application which I used to run successfully on FMS 3.5.1, I cannot get a connection. So I was wondering whats wrong... why it doesn't bind anymore? is there something wrong with my upgrade process?? I even tried uninstalling whatever I currenltly have and installing the new upgrade... same result.

recently been dealing with a problem where outsiders have been able to hijack our Windows 2003 server based Flash Media Server 4 default livestream access point and bounce pirated television content over it. Currently am running this on a campus network and thought I had it locked down so that all incoming port 1935 requests must originate from campus and outgoing streams are served everywhere. This is sort of working, but it is also stopping legitimate traffic from streaming video to off campus visitors. If anyone can shed a light on how to setup my firewall rules that would be great, as I am stumped. Here is the list of how I've setup the rules (not using our real IP's for protection):
Campus is a class B network, everything is based off of 123.123.X.X
Server sits on 123.123.1.2
Port/rulename Rule Local Port Local IP Remote IP Remote Port
Port 80 Allow TCP/UDP 80 ANY ANY ANY
Streaming out Allow TCP/UDP OUT 1935 ANY ANY ANY <--this rule is supposed to allow all
[code]....
I've tried swf verify but thats easy to circumvent, nor can I get the allowhttpdomains options to work properly as it wants real names and not IP numbers.

I have a customer that is actually developing an streaming solution in RTMP. So far, while trying to stream H264 files to FMS, he has some issues.
He uses two video streaming services from his encoder (the one he is developing), both using same source and same h264 encoder. One of the streams use flv muxer and one uses mp4 muxer (f4v). He has a component for the RTMP streaming (using librtmp) in order to streaming to the Flash Media Server. There is two main issues: 1. In case of using mp4 mux, we can not send to the FMS b-frames (removed by the encoder, using profile base), If we send b-frames the FMS disconnects the connection. 2. The FMS losses huge amount of memory while streaming back mp4's.

Allright, so i'm searching for information on how to write plugins for FMLE 3.0, the reason is that i need to extend some functionality regarding the metadata injections. So, does anyone here know of an API/Framework/SDK like paper that is a good place to start reading? Any input will be welcome, except "nay sayers" because i know it's possible to make plugins, ive seen one or two out there, just dont know where to start.
PS. I have plenty experience in writing DLL's for windows applications, but i would rather refrain from reverse-engineering FMLE to use windows hooks and insert dll's at run/loadtime, would rather have a more or less "intentional" framework to work with.

Does FMS 3.5.2 in development impose restrictions via the origin of connections? That is, does it only allow localhost connections via ActionScript (NetConnection) or are external connections allowed? In other words, can I have FMS in dev mode on a dedicated server and then have my client code running on a different machine that opens connections to this development server?

I'm building a video conferencing applicaition for a portal. But now when considering which version of flash media server to buy, I run into some problem. So can anyone helps me about comparing this two versions: Flash Media Streaming Server and Flash Media Interactive server, like if I use Flash Media Streaming Server, some function like NetStream.pause() may not work or something like that? I'm not sure if this is a foolish question but please let me know.

The company I work for installed FMS on a server running Centos for a customer who needed streaming media capabilities. It worked fine for 3 months until today the customer called us and informed us that their client program can no longer connect to the streaming media server. No one has done anything to the server to cause this to happen. When attempting to access the admin console to diagnose the program, the streaming server returned a 500 Internal Server Error. So I tried another page. Same result. Reboots of both the hardware server and the FMS have changed nothing.

One server - is streaming server with Flash Media Interactive Server 3.5that host the application with asc files in FMS application directory.Second server - is the IIS web server that host thehtml, aspx, swf etc.. files. So basically i heve swf file on one server that have to connect to live streaming via rtmp on different server with different ip address.I did not find any clear explanation on this crossdomain rmtp issue.ys only HTTP can use crossdomain.xml policy filebut not rmtp.So what policy security procedure need to be done in order to enableswf file hosted on one server to connect and show rmtp live cam broadcasting from another server?

Is there a way to disable logging for an application? 3. In edge logs, Sometimes I encounter the error "Exception while processing message : (Adaptor: _defaultRoot_, VHost: Unknown, App: , Type: 20, ID: 0, B". It seems it has no effect but still it is an error.

I'm trying to troubleshoot a Flash Media Server working with a little video playback application I wrote a few years ago that has suddenly stopped working.I'm using CS3/Actionscript 3.My app uses the FLVPlayback Component, and was working well last time I checked. I recevied a report that the videos stopped working, and have been looking into it.I figured I'd add a bunch of event listeners to the FLVPlayback's ncMgr.netConnection so I could get debug info on things like io errors, net status, etc.The problem I'm running into is that the netConnection is null when I set it to anything on my Flash Media Server, and adding any event listeners to this netConnection throws errors. Here's what I've tried so far:
Playback of a local FLV file works fine.In the FLVPlayback documentation, I found an example and stole the URL of the stream they were using in the example, and that works fine, although it is an HTTP protocol stream rather than RTMP.Any attempt to access FLV files on my Media Server, which has worked fine in the past, basically cause the FLVPlayback object to sit and hang in "buffering" mode and never progresses beyond this point. The netConnection object in this case is null. Here's my code:[code]........
Again the purpose of this is to troubleshoot the video streaming from the Flash Media Server, and it seems like there is no netconnection to the server being created.Does this mean that the server is not working, or is there a problem with the way I'm trying to access the content on the server? This was all working fine before, and I have set up the server-side application .ASC files and such to allow things to work fine on the server end.

I'm trying to make a software which sends video and audio data to a flash media server by using RTMP protocol. Currently, my program can communicate with a flash media server correctly. RTMP specifications does not describe about the raw data in video/audio messages, so I muxed raw H.264 and AAC data into video/audio messages and sent to the server. The server seems to accept them, but a video player cannot playback the stream sending from the server. The player just says "Loading..." For a test purpose, I sniffed the network packets between Wirecast and the flash media server and ripped off only video and audio data. Then, I muxed those data into video/audio message and sent to the flash media server. In this case, the video player connected to the server can playback the stream correctly.
I checked the stream sent from Wirecast, the stream seems not to be H.264 raw data because those data are not started from 0x17 instead of H.264 start code. With those situation, I am wondering what kind of container format I should use for H.264/AAC data to the flash media server.

We purchased FMIS and we are encoding large 15+ hour MP4 recordings using flash media encoder. When opening these large files for playback, which have not been opened recently the player displays the loading indicator for up to 4 minutes! Once it has apparently been cached on the server it opens immediately from any browser even after clearing local browser cache. So a few questions for the experts
1. Why is it taking so long to load the file. Is it because the MP4 metadata is in the wrong format and the file is so huge? I read somewhere that Media Encoder records with incorrect MP4 metadata is that still the case?
2. Once its cached on the server, exactly how much of it is cached. Some of these files are larger than 500mb.
3. What fms settings do you suggest I change. FMIS is running on windows server R2 64 bit, but FMIS itself is 32 bit. We have not upgraded to the 64 bit version. We have 8GB of ram. Is it OK to set FMS cache to 3GB. And would that only have enough room for 3-4 large files, because we have hundreds of them.
