Media Server :: FMS Interactive With Data Events - Camera Streaming Video
Sep 15, 2011
I'm completely new to FMS but a seasoned Flex developer. We're building a Flash Builder 4.5 application which will be deployed to iPads. The basic functional requirements are as follows:
1. Presenter in a room has a camera streaming video of themselves2. Participants in the same room have an iPad - there are 30 participants and the stream is sent to all 30 iPads simultaneously.3. There must be lowest delay possible with good quality video - we understand this can be achieved with RTMP and that VP6 has to be used (as there is no H.264 support at present in AIR on iOS)4. The presenter will trigger certain things from their iPad which will then display certain alerts, content on the partcipants iPad (from server connection the participant iPads are listening to)
Firstly, I'm interested to know your thoughts on this current spec. This was put together from zero initial experience with FMS and having read a lot online and creating a proof-of-concept. Secondly, with regards to the two-way interaction: Is this something FMS handles? Previously I have used LCDS or BlazeDS for the data events & streaming aspects of our applications. Initially I was planning on using BlazeDS again, in addition to FMS. But from what I have read FMS possible handles data push too? Does FMS have LCDS/Blaze built in in some way?

I'm building a video conferencing applicaition for a portal. But now when considering which version of flash media server to buy, I run into some problem. So can anyone helps me about comparing this two versions: Flash Media Streaming Server and Flash Media Interactive server, like if I use Flash Media Streaming Server, some function like NetStream.pause() may not work or something like that? I'm not sure if this is a foolish question but please let me know.

I had an flv recording from a webcam.It mostly recorded fine, but there's one point where I paused the broadcast for an intermission.A few minutes later the broadcast started again but the video doesn't play beyond that point, only audio plays.A few minutes later in the recording the broadcast switched to another camera and the video starts playing again just fine from there.I can't seek past the frozen point either to skip a couple of seconds ahead.The freeze is at about 9:00.If I seek to 9:01 it jumps ahead 8 minutes to where the camera switches.What's strange in this is that the video is *definitely* in the file.Using Moyea's FLV Editor Pro I converted the FLV to an MPEG and the whole video is there, so it's not that the camera stopped transmitting, it's just that the playback isn't working.

I need urgently to build simple streaming live video web application.i need to create some live video streams from webcamin one computer through my server to webcam in another computer is Adobe Flash Media Streaming Server is able to do it or only Adobe Flash Media Interactive Server is able to do it?if Adobe Flash Media Streaming Server is able to deal with live video streams is there any major difference between them like for example is it possible to record live video streams in Media Streaming Server? The only clear difference between them is the price.I can afford baying the Media Streaming Server bat not the Media Interactive Server and i need to decide before i am turning to other very less quality java based solutions.

We have triple checked every possible component from a hardware level up to a software configuration level.Our platform consists of 2 origin servers with 6 edges talking to them (really beefy hardware).Once we inject a live stream into our two origins... we can successfully get the stream out via the edges and stream it successfully via our player.Once we hit around 2200 concurrent connections, the FMIS servers drops all the connections busy with streams.From the logs the only thing we can see is the following.Tons of disconnects with the Status code 103's which according to the online documentation means Client disconnected due to server shutdown (or application unloaded).We simulated the scenario with the FMS load simulator utility and we start seeing errors + all connections dropped around the 2200 mark.
The machines are Dell blades with dual CPU Xeons (quad cores) with around 50 gigs of ram per server... The edges are all on 10 Gb/s ethernet interfaces as well.We managed to generate a nice big fat coredump on the one origin and the only thing visible from inspecting the core dumps + logs is the following [code]From what it looks like above, FMS is hard crashing when trying to use clone(2) (basically it means when its trying to spawn a new/another process).I am really hoping there is someone out there who can guide us in the right direction with regards to how we can pinpoint why our platform cannot cope with a pathetic 2200 connections before the FMIS daemon drops all connected streams.

I'm trying to make a software which sends video and audio data to a flash media server by using RTMP protocol. Currently, my program can communicate with a flash media server correctly. RTMP specifications does not describe about the raw data in video/audio messages, so I muxed raw H.264 and AAC data into video/audio messages and sent to the server. The server seems to accept them, but a video player cannot playback the stream sending from the server. The player just says "Loading..." For a test purpose, I sniffed the network packets between Wirecast and the flash media server and ripped off only video and audio data. Then, I muxed those data into video/audio message and sent to the flash media server. In this case, the video player connected to the server can playback the stream correctly.
I checked the stream sent from Wirecast, the stream seems not to be H.264 raw data because those data are not started from 0x17 instead of H.264 start code. With those situation, I am wondering what kind of container format I should use for H.264/AAC data to the flash media server.

currently I use the following workflow for Live video streaming.I have FMLE on a computer streaming the Video feed to my FMS.I currenlty use Dreamweaver to create window with a few instances of a video window and one of the windows is configured to rtmp to my server and the stream name of the stream I have setup in FMLE.This then streams to one of the windows.I then assign a different Stream name to the other windows.
I send an FMLE client to a user in the locations that want to have a video presence on the webpage.I send them instructions and running FMLE and the parameters to use to get their camera up and running.This works fine to a point.Most of the users are not technically minded and so often this leads to issues and delays to get these things to work.
I want to move on and improve this flow.I want to create the video instances on the page where:Below each video window is a text input field where a user can type in their name which will be used as the stream name.Below each video window is a button that the user clicks to connect their camera automatically without having to install FMLE.Once the video feed is running, only that user can click the button again to disconnect it. ( The button changes to "Stop Broadcast" etc).
I have looked at the structure of Ustream for example, and this seems to be the method they use as you can download the XML file of your channe,l and the RTMP URL and stream name can be copied and then used directly in FMLE and you can stream with more control of your camera that way.

I,am using FMS 3.5 to stream video over internet.This video will be a part of a website www.mywebsite.com . I have the webserver in my company. This webserver has the local LAN IP : 192.168.10.19 which is binded with a public internet ip 212.77.xx.xx .This website is hosted using IIS 6.0 on OS windows 2003 server with SP2.I created a swf name sample.swf from sample.flv file and gave it the rtmp address as follows: url...is the instance on the server, and 192.168.10.19 is the LAN IP of server) ,and it worked fine and every one within the local company network could see the streaming video. Now i tried to replace this local address with the public address and the address became as follows: url...After giving this public IP in the rtmp address i,am getting a message "Failed to load Flv from the address url...and as as result the video is not streamed and it only shows the progress bar on the link url... without loading the video. I have also checked the ports 80,1935,1111 on the server and they are open. Is there any problem with my rtmp address with public IP or any other reason ??

Before I buy the Flash Media Server, I would like to know that:
- Is it possible to crop the webcam video (because I need just one part of the whole picture) before streaming from the client's Flash Player to the Media Server? (it would reduce the bandwidth a lot)
- If not, can the player store some parts of video until it is fully streamed with all it's data (30 fps) to the Server? (e.g: client: low bandwidth, I need all frames that the webcam records, real-time doesn't matter if it takes 1 minutes for 20sec video, that would be ok.

I am a professional video editor specializing in corporate video and occassionally TV commercials. We often post "review" videos in Flash format to our website for our clients to check progress, etc. These videos are usually around 3 minutes in length and occasionally reach 20 minutes Trt. We use Adobe Production Premium CS4 which includes Flash CS4. I usually export the videos at the included preset, "Web Large Widescreen". The playback is almost instantaneous on most DSL and T1 connections. I use the "Full Screen" option button and when the videos are viewed full screen, they look amazing.
Here is the issue: I have recently created a video for a client that contains text and is approx. 50 minutes in length. The video format is 4x3 and the client wants the transcoded Flash video to display at a 640x480 square pixel dimension. The video plays fine over most DSL connections. It chokes on T1. Question: Can streaming Flash video provide better quality and playability for longer duration Web videos? Could any of you direct me to a chart that compares streaming Flash with the "simulated" streaming typically exported from Premiere CS4's Media Encoder?

When using Flash Media Live Encoder 3 to dynamically stream live video, the subscribing to it is "jumpy", for lack of a better term. I have no issues with swapping between bitrate streams on pre-recorded video, but when I use live feeds one of the streams seems corrupted. I've tried various bitrate settings and different people experience the video differently, but about half the time, one of the streams is all tiling and stuttering.
Example: If publishing 3 streams (200kb/s, 600kb/s, and 1200kb/s) and the bandwidth drops, causing a downshift from 1200 to 600, after the transition the 600 is in this weird stuttering 1 second loop and persists to do this until the dynamic stream requests a switch to one of the other streams.I've tried reinstalling FMIS, FMLE and no matter what I do, there seems to be a 50/50 chance that a viewer will experience this. What's so weird to me, is I'll watch it in 2 separate player instances on the same machine and one of them gets the stuttering on the 600 stream and the other one doesn't.

I'm using FMLE 3.1 to stream live video encoded with H.264 format with FMS 3 and Flash player 10 + AS 3 to connect to the stream. When I connect to the stream, just the audio is played. I'm able even to get the metadata information about the video, but I just receive the audio. I already tried some stuff like
1. "Flash 10 won't play live stream H.264 after iTunes install" [URL]. I tested it in a complete different environment than mine, but the same result.
2. I've tried some format to play method, but this is just to play files
ns.play("mp4:saple.f4v"); ns.play("mp4:sample");
3. Also read "How do you watch and record a live h.264" [URL], but I don't get even to play the stream at first place. This is the code I'm using
import flash.media.Video;
var video:Video = new Video(720, 480);
var ncVideo = new NetConnection();
this.ncVideo.addEventListener(NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS, onNetStatus);
[Code] .....
Another detail is that when I record the video to a file for instance "sample.f4v", I put this video in the FMS but when I connect to this stream I receive the "FileStructureInvalid" error message. I went from changing the extension to .flv [URL] to the solution to flatten the files [URL] but this is not the case because I'm using FMS to stream the recorded video.

My current host (host gator) doesn't have rtmp enabled on their web hosting plan, only on their dedicated and vps hosting. My question is do I need to switch hosts to one that has rtmp enabled so I can stream to my website for people to view?Also, can I embed this stream into another part of my site?
