Professional :: Firefox Plugin Container High Cpu Usage And Crashing?
Jan 8, 2011
All three of my family's computers have been experiencing problems with the firefox plugin container. The container spikes the CPU for long, long, periods of time slowing overall performance noticably. The only way to address the problem is to kill the Firefox plugin container. When I kill the plugin container it kills Adobe Flash.I've tried clearing the flash cache from the Adobe troubleshooting site, deleting all cache applications, and changing settings. My family plays Farmville which is always hanging and can only be fixed by restarting the computer. Okay, maybe farmville is a bad app.

FMS is crashing with the following errors:

Consider increasing the heap size to prevent future memory allocation failures. -
When I try to restart I get:
2011-12-06 17:33:27 7933(e)2781340 Process 7933 failed to create IPC queue __FCS__ : Failed to allocate shared memory. - I've noticed the problem resolves when I restart fmsadmin. I think fmsadmin is using up all the shared memory, not sure. There are HTTP requests periodically being sent to fmsadmin, could this be a source of memory leak?
The server has 6 GB RAM and there are only about 100-200 connections being used. Runs without issues most of the time, crashes once every few days. What is the shared memory heap and how do I increase it?

As more and more FLV videos are moving to HD, I'm noticing high CPU usage and lots of dropped frames when playing FLV video in web browser with Flash 10. This is true even if the video isn't full screen. I've tried a variety of browsers (Firefox, I.E., Chrome) and the problem occurs on all of them so it's pretty clear it's a limitation in Flash.
Now my PC isn't high end (it has a Pentium M 1.86 GHz processor), but I can take those same FLV files and load them in something like Media Player Classic or Windows Media Player (when using ffdshow) and play the FLV files full screen with little or no drop in frames and an acceptable CPU rate.
This is especially annoying on sites like YouTube where I actually have to save the video and play it back in something other than Flash to have it play back at an acceptable rate. This doesn't work for other sites like Amazon.
Why is the CPU usage so high when decoding and displaying videos when compared to other media players?

I have helped write a program in AS3 that uses classes. We have 2 frames in our movieclip that consists of an ant moving. We have a class of ants and can create 15 instances of them and the program runs fine with the ants walking around looking for food and going back to a corner that is their nest and going back out again. The ants also respond to mouse movement if the mouse pointer is near an ant.
If we create more than 15 ants, then the program starts to slow down. If we have 30 ants on the screen, then there is noticable stuttering of the ant movement. The CPU usage on a P4 2.5Ghz Pentium is around 50%.

I am loading an XML file (fairly large document). It takes a high amount of my CPU(almost 100%). This prevents me from working on other applications. Also, it takes a lot of time to load.
reduce the CPU usage.

I've hired a freelancer, to make a design for my flash app. And everything was fine, untill I saw this. It was an animated background. It has about 100 tweened movie clips, that do pretty much the same - simple rotation tween, but cpu usage on that background only reaches 17-20%. Its high for such a small effect. I've tried to optimize it - removing all code, and leving just timeline based tween, but that didn't solve my issue.[URL]

I'm building a GUI for a karaoke system which uses Flash IDE.
Im not doing the OOP method, if you ask me why, its becoz I code slower with OOP and I need this urgently.
Anyway, I had only created 3 scenes with several simple MovieClips in it and some png files as button icons.
When I try to publish it and run, i noticed it will just freeze my Flash IDE and I've checked the CPU Usage in TaskMgr, it shows over 50% usage.
The filesize for this FLA is just 992KB, so you can probably tell that it doesnt have much bitmap in it.
I am hoping someone in this forum could show me some light as I've already struggle for the past 12 hours with no luck at all.

I'm working on a new site and one of the things the client likes most is the idea of these gears that are constantly rotating on the screen. However, now that I have the mock-up design done, I'm noticing that the constant rotation requires a lot of CPU to maintain. Has anyone else experienced this and have you figured out a better method than the one I am using to rotate the movieclips?

I've been deploying video to the web via Flash for a couple years now and I was curious if anyone has experience with / knows if deploying video via a Flash Media Server or any other type of video centric server has a significant impact on performance playback? I've noticed lately that with YouTube content, often available in "HQ" or "HD" that the video playback suffers very marginally when switching to higher quality video. However, with video players I have developed, using HTTP progressive download, CPU usage often spikes during download of the video and decreases once it's been cached. I've also recently employed pseudo-streaming techniques with the help of XMOOV but this doesn't seem to have much of an effect on CPU usage during video download.
My video player was developed in AS3 and while it's not using a class based structure, it does follow general OOP techniques. Would a class based video player improve performance? Here is a link to a work in progress video player: [URL] Please try a couple videos and let me know if they play back smoothly and / or if you notice CPU spikes. Also note that the only video that makes use of XMOOV is the "Make a Wish" video as it's been injected with the necessary metadata.

my flash has lots of images and dispaly objects. Hence it costs high cpu usages. after using my flash for an hour, it is dieing.I am trying to reduce it. I have some questions here:
1. I create an array, or string at frame 1 for example, when I go back to frame 1, should I create a new array, or a new string?? Or is it better to make it empty array(eg:[]) or empty string("")? which way it reduces cup uasge more?
2. does anyone know how to force the flash to do garbage collection??
3. any other possible reasons that cause high cpu usage?

I've created a Flex website that plays a video using the Spark VideoDisplay component. When selected, the VideoDisplay loads in the PopUpManager.
This works fine in all the browsers, except Google Chrome take significantly longer to start playing, during which the CPU usage peaks, then goes back down once video starts playing.
I've traced the player states it goes through and they are as follows:
Loading ready (hangs for ages with high cpu) buffering playing (immediately after buffering, CPU usage goes down, video plays smoothly)
What could be causing this to temporarily hang for so much longer in Chrome? I thought I could expect the same functionality and behaviour throughout all the browsers, as Flash is simply a plugin that runs as a separate process?
Edit: It seems that it's the same in Opera too. Is there any commonality between the two that would explain this behaviour?

I have a big problem with my firefox plugin: I have a button, which opens a new window for me, where I want to include that .swf file.
Here is the XUL code for the embedding:
<html:embed src="Reader.swf"
width="250"
height="250"
type="application/x-shockwave-flash" />
-> html namespace was set above:
xmlns:html="[URL]"
Reader.swf is in the same directory as the xul file
Without the html:embed, the window opens without problems, but as soon as I change that, firefox crashes without warning or something, it just disappears from the process bar. The .swf file works properly when I open it from my operating system (its windows 7 64 bit) and is coded in as3.

I recently started using Mac OS X for a flex/actionscript project and having a problem with flash player debugger plugin for the browsers:
OSX: 10.6.3 Browsers I tried: firefox, safari and chrome Flashplayer debug "Flash Player 10 Plugin content debugger (Intel-based Macs)

I am using version 10,0,42,2 (debug edition: yes)

My rails website uses the open_flash_graph plugin to generate flash graphs for my clients. If a customer doesn't have flash installed, it doesn't display any messages, it simply doesn't show any graphs.
I've noticed that if I go to other websites that need flash, I get a yellow bar at the top of my firefox window that offers to "Install Missing Plugin".

I have a flash within a holder div (flash container). I use swfobject to insert the flash object (if it makes any difference). I want to resize that holder div to make it smaller in width, when I achieve the "second level" in my "flash application". (with jQuery .animate() function). What "flash application" mean: I have a human body on wich I can click in different body areas. That is the first action - and the effect is to zoom onto that specific area of the body.
Then I can click again on a more specific zone into that area - and the effect consists in fetching some stuff via ajax. (it's some medical stuff, diseases etc.) - that's the "second level" in my "flash application". Then I can click on that stuff fetched via ajax - that's when I resize the flash holder. The problem is that, because of this resizing, my flash reloads and comes back to it's original state, without that zoom level. This reload appears in the "second level", and not when I click on the stuff fetched via ajax and the flash holder resizes. But that's the cause of the reload, because without this resizing, it's all ok. The problem is just in Firefox, I tested it in IE6,7,8, Opera 10, Safari latest and Chrome and there's nothing wrong there, the flash does not realod. Hope you understand what I'm saying here :) if not I cand send you a private message with the URL to see what I mean (I can't make it public)

Flash CS5.5 has suddenly started crashing all the time. It's ridiculous. It's always about 2 seconds after:- Minimizing/Bringing forward another window.- Testing a movie- Opening/closing another fla in CS5.5This is with any fla file. It's incredibly frustrating. The window just tints white and I get a "____________ has stopped working", and my only choice is to close program.I am using Windows 7. am really shocked at how progressively unreliable EVERY Flash Pro has been since CS3, despite being an industry standard. It's been incredibly useful to me since I first started using it in 2004 (MX 2004 that is). However, considering all my other development software, it is clear that it is by far the most unreliable. It is unacceptable.

Every time I use Flash CS3, the program works with no problem, with no lags and crashes. But once my work is done and I close it, Windows prompts a dialog about a "Flash not responding" warning. It happens every time I close the program, why is that?

I'm having a problem with Flash crashing when I try to start it. I first noticed the problem when I had a fairly simple scrolling text fla that I tried to open but after a few seconds of the document being open spinning beach ball (Mac) would come up and a few seconds later that app crashes. I've tried to open three separate Flash documents as well as just opening the program and making a new document. Every time, the result being the spinning beach ball and the app crashes after about 5 seconds.I've updated all my Adobe software. What else can I try? Deleting preferences, if so,where are those located?

I'm having a problem with launching Flash CS5. I had previous been running Flash CS5 on my MacBook Pro, and everything was working fine for many months. Then I just recently installed OSX 10.6.3, and now Flash CS5 "unexpectedly quits" on launch. I've tried uninstalling Flash CS5 and then re-installing it with no difference.
[URL]
1. Delete preferences. I found the file "Flash CS5 Preferences", removed it from Library > Preferences folder, and put it in the trash. (I looked at this file: it is just a text file with XML, so I assume this is the right thing to remove).
2. Then I used Disk Utility to repair permissions. This appeared to go fine.3. Then I used FontNuke to first find font caches, and then removed them. This resulted in an automatic reboot of my system.Upon system restart, I tried opening Flash CS5 immediately. Although it crashed again, it actually got much further this time: the application launched, and I was able to see the IDE for a moment before the whole thing crashed again. This was a little different than the dozen or so times before that I had tried to debug this, where Flash would not even get past the launch screen (where it says it's loading fonts, initializing etc). Tho, when trying to launch Flash CS5 again, it now again crashes before it even gets out of the launch screen (every time).
I have a sense that this might have to do with a font issue. The reason is: after installing OSX 10.6.3, I noticed in some other applications, such as FireWorks CS3 and in Numbers, that some of the fonts were looking messed up (usually the kerning is way off one way or the other with files that I've never had a problem with this before). I was able to simply fix these issues in these other applications, yet is this font issue also affecting Flash CS5 in some way?Anyway, I've done everything I can think of multiple times over--and I still have no flash CS5!

I have used Flash CS4 for a while and I recently purchased CS5.5 so I could develop IPhone Apps. I signed up as a developer and got my certificate and provisioning profile and I am trying to follow tutorials to publish a simple iphone app and get it on my phone but Flash CS5.5 crashes every time during the publish phase. It says publishing 1:20 remaining and usually with about 25 seconds left it freezes up and crashes.

Trying to solve flash video crashes in multiple browsers. Both IE8 and Chrome in Windows 7 Home Premium 64b were crashing with flash videos. Reading forums, Adobe Flash was to blame in that it has problems with IE8 64b etc. Well I made sure that the 32bit version was running and still had the same problem. Occasionally I noticed a message advising that the 8500 graphics card had recovered rom a crash. The graphics driver was uninstalled and then re-installed. Strangely both my browsers were no longer processing internet packets. I uninstalled Chrome and re-installed the latest version. IE8 and Chrome then operated normally AND no more flash video crashes.
