Media Server :: FMS 4.5 Crashing - Shared Memory Heap Has Exceeded 90 Usage
Dec 6, 2011
FMS is crashing with the following errors:
2011-12-06 10:24:02 12461 (w)2581227 Shared memory heap (__FCS__) has exceeded 90 usage. Consider increasing the heap size to prevent future memory allocation failures. -2011-12-06 10:24:02 12461 (w)2581227 Shared memory heap (__FCS__) has exceeded 90 usage. Consider increasing the heap size to prevent future memory allocation failures. -2011-12-06 10:24:02 12461 (w)2581227 Shared memory heap (__FCS__) has exceeded 90 usage. Consider increasing the heap size to prevent future memory allocation failures. -
When I try to restart I get:
2011-12-06 17:33:27 7933(e)2781340 Process 7933 failed to create IPC queue __FCS__ : Failed to allocate shared memory. - I've noticed the problem resolves when I restart fmsadmin. I think fmsadmin is using up all the shared memory, not sure. There are HTTP requests periodically being sent to fmsadmin, could this be a source of memory leak?
The server has 6 GB RAM and there are only about 100-200 connections being used. Runs without issues most of the time, crashes once every few days. What is the shared memory heap and how do I increase it?

I'm running the development edition of FMS 4.5 and am trying to get HLS working. Whenever I attempt to publish a stream from FMLE, I receive the message:
f4f:livestream - NetStream.Record.DiskQuotaExceeded
in the livepkgr application instance and Failed to record livestream (disk quota exceeded).in the server log.I realize there are limitations on the development edition (10 minutes of iOS streaming), however usually these limitations restart when the server is reset. I've restarted the application instance and the server itself, manually starting and stopping the service, and I still receive that error when I first connect and try to publish the stream right after a server restart. I've reset the server multiple times to no avail.
The recording settings in the application.xml are all set to the defaults (-1 for no maximums).Unfortunately I've never been able to get this to work yet so I'm not ambitious enough to start testing it on any production servers.

I just upgraded one of our servers running FMS 3.0 to FMS 3.5.3 but it causes a sudden spike in server load causing the server to crash.I managed to see an error after I tried to stop FMS during one of its server load spikes:
NPTL 2.3.4Stopping Adobe Flash Media Server (please check /var/log/messages)*** glibc detected *** double free or corruption (fasttop): 0xf3a21ef0 ***
FMS 3.0 worked fine on this server with the exception of the admin server crashing once in a while. We have FMS 3.5.2 running on another CentOS server without any issues. We're now hesitant to upgrade other servers to FMS 3.5.3 until we hear back from Adobe on this issue.
P.S: This server is live and very active so it's possible that playback of a live or VOD stream is causing these crashes because they started happening after we turned it on for customers. It didn't seem to crash when it was running on its own with some local testing.

I need to assess whether we should move our service to more capable hardware. At present our bandwidth is about 25 megabit out of our gigabit link and typical CPU usage is about 10-40%. I want to know whether FMS will stream with less lag or does that purely depend on client upstream bandwidth?

Medium-load chat server using Shared Objects segfaults every few hours. Runtime size has been increased to 30MB (this saves it from crashing every 10 minutes). I have the core dump but don't understand what it means.

We are using the FMS4 for 1-1 real time video chatting. it is fine but the CPU usage are very high.[url]...
we use the :80 I guess it helps to deal with the firewall with HTTP tunneling? (seems if it is true, it will this degrade performance?)
with 320*240; it is using 30~50 % CPU; with 480*360: 40-60% CPU at the clients. so high... decent client machine: Intel i5 650. Quad 3.3Ghz 8G RAM. win7 64

I'm getting this error with one chat application. According to
[URL]
..I should "Check the JavaScript runtime size for this application in the configuration file". By default it was set to 1024. Any attempt to increase it causes FMS not to start again. This problem just came out of the blue. This same chat app has been in operation with no trouble for about 10 months. I restart the server machine on which it resides before each new chat session.

All three of my family's computers have been experiencing problems with the firefox plugin container. The container spikes the CPU for long, long, periods of time slowing overall performance noticably. The only way to address the problem is to kill the Firefox plugin container. When I kill the plugin container it kills Adobe Flash.I've tried clearing the flash cache from the Adobe troubleshooting site, deleting all cache applications, and changing settings. My family plays Farmville which is always hanging and can only be fixed by restarting the computer. Okay, maybe farmville is a bad app.

I have Flash Media Interactive Server 3.5.5 on Windows 2008 server. I developed video chat application (many to many), it's only 1 FMS application with about 50-100 room instances and 1 lobby instance to which all users are connected. There are up to 600 - 700 users at a time which produce about 2000-2500 connections to FMS. Problem I have is with steady raise of memory usage, which if goes little above 2GB will make FMS unresponsive and it would restart itself after about 1-2hours. To avoid that Im restarting FMS manualy every 3-4 days. Interesting thing I noticed is that if I restart FMS from admin console, used RAM memory won't fall at levels as if it would right after whole Windows server is restarted

We find a problem about STANDARD FLASHPLAYER PLATFORM,memory leaking on new flashplayer version(10.1.82.72 or newer) happens while testing the flashplayer in live mode connected to the standard FMS in a period of more than 24 hours.the Phenomenon is as follows, the player screen seems suddenly fixed after some time and the memory start to increase ,the peak of virtual memory consumption is up to 1.3 G(2.0G of physical memory),and a moment later, white screen happens with a exclamation point.

Not talking video here. Talking interactive apps, like chat. Ours crashes at about 500 connected users. When I report this I'm told "make sure you're not creating too many objects serverside" or "increase the JSRuntimeSize setting in your application.xml file to the max". Have now done both of those things but still get this out of memory error. Let's say I optomized my app and got 100% more connection capacity. That would be 1,000 connected users - still nowhere near enough. Are my dreams of 6,000 or 10,000 connected users enjoying all of the fruits of the FMS interactivity pipe dreams? Is it not meant for sessions of that size?

I'm having trouble connecting to a remote persistent shared object. When I run from the Flash authoring environment it works. But when I run it from a browser it doesn't. The code attaches an event listener to the sync event, and then calls so.connect(nc).
As mentioned - it works inside Flash authoring only. In both cases the connection to the server is successful. I also tried setting client.readAccess to "/" in the application.onConnect function of the server-side code - but it doesn't help. (Everything was written by me including the server-side application code. I have full control and access to the server).
Also, I can see the remote object exists on the server in the admin console. And as mentioned, when running inside Flash CS5 - the onsync gets triggered after connecting to the shared object. But, the same code under a browser - doesn't trigger the onsync. The SharedObject.getRemote method on the client side returns an object on both occasions.

It stands to reason that an OS would have a memory limit for the FMS process. I have a video chat app to which I may need to connect 300,000 or more concurrent users. Has anyone done this? Would this break the bank? What's the most you've ever had connected at once?
The video portion of my app goes through a good CDN, so I don't think there's a problem there. But my chat room is all on one FMS instance. I see something in FMS docs in "configuring performance features" that warns, "Adobe recommends that you ensure that your total system memory usage does not exceed the process limit of your OS". Granted it's in the context of configuring media cache, but wouldn't the same apply to chat room size if the numbers get high enough?
