Media Server :: Pass Objects (not Strings) To Application.onConnect()?

Sep 30, 2009

The documentation on parameters for application.onConnect() is below.  It can take a Client "object" but is ambiguous about the optional parameters (strings vs objects).  I'm guessing just strings?

I have a user value object with a few pieces of info in it that I pass around client side and would like the server to add it to its list of users (usersSO).  I'm guessing I'll have to send it up in pieces and recreate it somehow on the server?

ParametersclientObjA Client object. This object contains information about the client that is connecting to the application.p1 ..., pNOptional parameters passed to the application.onConnect() handler from the client-side NetConnection.connect()

Media Server :: TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot Access A Property Or Method Of A Null Object?

Oct 7, 2010

I have this set of codes for a simple chat program using SharedObjects. When I run the program, I type my name into the 'chatName' box and my message in the 'textInput'box. However when click on the 'Send' button or press the Enter key, I am getting the following error:

" TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at TextChat/sendMsg() "

As mentioned in the error message I looked at the 'sendMsg()' function. I realised the problem was comming from the line :

text_so.setProperty ("msg",chatName.text +": "+ textInput.text);

I am wondering how 'text_so' can be a null object reference. It was already instantantiated and setup earlier in the code. I hope someone can shed light on this. The relevant lines of code are below.

Media Server :: Connect And Sync To Remote Shared Object Works In Authoring But Not In Browser?

Dec 19, 2011

I'm having trouble connecting to a remote persistent shared object. When I run from the Flash authoring environment it works. But when I run it from a browser it doesn't. The code attaches an event listener to the sync event, and then calls so.connect(nc).

As mentioned - it works inside Flash authoring only. In both cases the connection to the server is successful. I also tried setting client.readAccess to "/" in the application.onConnect function of the server-side code - but it doesn't help. (Everything was written by me including the server-side application code. I have full control and access to the server).

Also, I can see the remote object exists on the server in the admin console. And as mentioned, when running inside Flash CS5 - the onsync gets triggered after connecting to the shared object. But, the same code under a browser - doesn't trigger the onsync. The SharedObject.getRemote method on the client side returns an object on both occasions.

Media Server :: Multiple Or Single NetConnection Object Per Application?

Sep 22, 2009

If I'm streaming live video and chatting in an FMS app, should each component have its own instance of NetConnection or should they share one? Was thinking perhaps the quality of the live video stream would be hurt in a sharing situation but am not sure the architecture works like that.

From a development standpoint, I'd like to make one NetConnection instance in my main application file and connect with it.  Then, when successfully connected, I'd like to pass that connection into any custom components that need it.

Media Server :: RTMP & Flash Media Streaming Server Live Application?

Feb 3, 2010

I'm running Flash Media Streaming Server and have only been serving VOD up until now.  I had my network administrator open up port 1935 to the outside world during the setup process and now I can't remember if that was actually required for streaming VOD to clients.  Most documentation I've read says that this port should be open, but I seem to recall reading something at one point that suggested it wasn't necessary.

I've just started messing around with publishing live streams using Flash Media Live Encoder to the Flash Media Streaming Server.  I have that working without issue but was surprised to find that no authentication is required before a client running the live encoder can publish a stream to the Flash Media Streaming Server.  An authentication module is available however it only works with Flash Media Interactive Server and Flash Media Development Server.

If I leave port 1935 open to the outside world, there would be nothing to stop anybody anywhere from streaming video via my server.  Anyone else running a default install of Flash Media Streaming Server and with port 1935 open to the outside should see that this is true of their setup as well.  I'm wondering if I can safely close port 1935 without limiting the functionality of the server or if there's some way I can require authentication prior to publishing a live stream even though I'm not on the four-and-a-half-times-more-expensive edition of the product.

ActionScript 1/2 :: Shared Object Causing Flash Application To Crash

May 26, 2009

I have a couple of static functions (one shown below) that can be called from multiple instances; there is a problem because of a shared object I am using.

My tracing shows that the application is in this function or the converse function addRec when my application is crashing.

[Code]....

In another class I have this statement where I set the value of some date in my shared object. I have to comment the following lone of code out in order for the application not to crash after a short while:

so.data.rArray = currentRecs;          // the culprit I see the first trace in the removeRec function but then nothing. I expect to see the second trace indicating that the array of current recordings taking place (currentRecs) has been cut back by one.

Originally my function was not static and my application crashed very quickly. By making the function static the situation improved insofar as it took longer for the application to crash. Flash seems to be very particular about the way it handles shared objects.

Flex :: Get Property Values From Shared Object In Client's Load Event?

Mar 5, 2010

I am using shared object to share data between two users. First user connect to shared object and set some value in shared object. Please consider that second user has not connected with the shared object yet.Now when second user connects to the server and try to get that property set by first user, he could get shared object but could not get properties of Shared object set by first user. I observed few times that Second user can get these properties within "Sync" event between two users. But I would like to get these values for Second user in any stage (i.e. in load event etc.). Whenever Second user tries to get the property of Shared object, the object will reset the actual property value and then return reset value.

1) Is there any way to get all the properties of shared object before sync event called, as I want to get it immediately when second user connect to the application and perform next task based on the values stored in shared object.

2) Is it possible for second user to check whether any property has been set by first user? So that second user can use the property instead of reset it.

TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot Access A Property Or Method Of A Null Object Reference?
