I'm working on a project that has 2 invisible buttons created on the stage.
Other items are placed on the stage with actionscript 3.
I am unable to bring the buttons to the front or top.
I have tried:

I don't know if it's an AS3 thing, or a Flash 10 thing, both of which I don't work in frequently..... (usually, I'm working in Flash 8, and AS2 for most of my projects)
Basically, when I have invisible content over a button in my flash movie, the button no longer works. Like I said, it's something that's never been an issue before.
Where it shows up is when I want to make a piece of content visible over a button when the user mouses over the button, so the piece of content would start over the button with its alpha set to 0. I would typically change the visibility of the object I want to make visible when the button is rolled over. But now when that object is over my button at 0 opacity, the button no longer works....and again, I've never had this be an issue before.
i have 7 buttons inside an MC in a row next each other, when the mouse rollover each of it zooms 20%. Now the problem starts when the button you're hoving over is zoomed, the button next to it cuts into the image. in the order they where inserted I want the button you're zooming over to always display as the top layer - bring to front -.
i read of a code:
btn.swapDepths(1);
to change the depth of the movie clip
and:
trace(btn.getDepth());
to get the initial depth of the button putting it at a higher or lower depth than the other buttons will either place the button behind or in front of the other buttons ...play around with depths untill you figure it out.
if u click on all the buttons it will bring the content up but i only want one of the buttons to bring the content up. the experiments buttons should bring the content up... i send you the fla file?

When I test the movie I see the hand icon so I know it's an invisible button, but when I click on it, it goes out of the flash play like it wants to go to a browser, but nothing happens. When I upload the files I can see the hand icon again, but nothing happens when I click on the link. I tried the changing the .html file that it is housed in to an .htm file, but that didn't work either.
I've got a few HBoxes with buttons in them. I programmatically make certain buttons invisible. At a certain point, all of the buttons should be invisible. How can I tell when all of the buttons are invisible? What's the easiest way of doing so?

I have a 2 frame flash movie where the first has a group of names that are clickable hidden by actionscript. You need to click directors, then the names come up and then click the name to go to the 2nd frame of the move which brings in their information dynamically. This has a close button that takes you back to the first frame. My problem is that when going back to the first frame after closing the CV data, it still shows the area where those names were listed as clickable even though they aren't visible.
The code on frame 1 that I think is relative is below. The movie clip that houses the clickable name list is called bodBorderMC and it's loading the directors so I'm not sure if directors in the code works with that.

I have a file where everything is on frame one, and I have a nav bar. I want there to be a couple of buttons showing up below the main nav bar when one nav button is clicked, then disappearing when any of the other buttons are clicked.
View 1 RepliesI'm somewhat stuck in a project that I have to deliver next Friday. Thing is... I've got to code a webpage like The Killers Band webpage with a panoramic picture moving according to your mouse movements.
I've tried several things already, but I had no success yet. (Everything must be coded in AS2.0, and I'm using Flash CS3 to cover the project).
All I have is the panoramic picture, which I might be able to upload if you ask me to.

I've already converted the background picture into a movie clip symbol. Also, if I ever have to send the picture to anyone, I'll send it as a Private Message, since I can't post links yet.
I've made a scrollable window that basically scrolls some text and images. I'd like the images to link to another site but I'm having trouble getting the invisible buttons to scroll with the images.Here's the AS I'm using for the scrollable content:

I know of a couple of methods of implementing an invisible button or "hotspot" or clickable area:
1) Draw a fill region on a Sprite with an alpha of 0.
2) Create a Button with only a hitArea
Which method would be less resource intensive? Since Adobe recommends against using too much alpaha, I image (2) is better. Are there other methods which could be even less resource intensive? In the movie I am doing, there will be many of these on the screen so optimziing for performance is important.
I need to show different custom pointer when mouseover 2 different invisible buttons. These are next and back buttons which cover the entire left and right part of the stage. How this can be done in as3? Or is there a better way of doing it? I checked out the import flash.ui adobe live doc but can't quite make head and tail of it. I guess the example shown is only to change to custom cursor for entire stage.
View 4 RepliesI keep hearing about using a big invisible button on the top layer of your flash movie when you want any click to take you to another website for example. But what Ive done is a little different. My very BOTTOM layer is a background gradient, which is obviously not invisible. In my actionscript I have Gradient.onRelease = function () {getURL... etc etc This seems to work on my computer. The question is, is this a bad practice? Will this fail on some versions of flash players/browsers? Is the invisible button method better? It just seems dumb to do the invisible button thing when i have a perfectly sized background gradient that seems to work.
View 4 RepliesI thought I had a good hold on how to create buttons from a class, but my invis class will not return the button that is created to my fla. I have been able to access functions of invis class from my fla, even instantiate the object, but none of the button states carry over to the fla. If you can help I'd appreciate it. I placed the code below.

The trace seen in the button fla return null, somehow none of the states are applied to the object.
I have some movie clips turned buttons (by way of mc.buttonMode = true and friends) that scroll by an invisible button area, and when they are 'under' that area, none of their mouse events work. How can I still catch their mouse events in addition to the MOUSE_OVER of the invisible button on top?

You hover each box and they flip over but the "backside" of these cards are larger in both length and width than the front. When they flip over they overlap the neighbouring card. 1. What is the best format for making static graphics? Just a graphic symbol?
2. What about for graphics that will be converted into buttons in Flash? Does it matter if they are Graphics or Movie Clips in Illustrator?
I have a group of pictures which are going to be overlapping. I want the user to be able to view the whole picture (bring it to the front) when they roll the cursor over that picture. I'm sure this is very easy to do but I'm not so experienced with flash coding yet.

View 1 RepliesIve got my dancing fruit sorted, however when I save the file as an animated gif and put it in my application the gif has the stage background. If it wasnt animated I could edit the back ground in photo shop, but I dont seem to be able to with the animated file. Is there anyway I can just have my dancing fruit with out the stage?
View 3 RepliesFlash cs4 was installed and worked fine until lately. I cannot draw, use pen, shape tools, or load any previous pictures created in flash using the actionscript 3.0 new doc create. When I click/drag-- the image is there, but as soon as I unclick the image dissapears. Properties inspector shows that there is content but they are invisible. .fla files that I hve created and saved before open, but page is blank. The weirdest thing is that when I open a new doc using the AS 2.0 selection, everything works fine.I am somewhat coherent in the basic functionality of flash, and have tried the obvious i.e. fill and stroke colors, but I don't remember changing any settings.

I have tried changing the alpha to 0, but it's not letting me change that, except in the edit button mode which changes it for the entire duration and not just through frame 43.

View 5 RepliesI'm rather wet to AS3, and have been working on developing a site that can deal with a lot of content sections. Ignoring the fact that I haven't figured out button arrays yet, I was hoping to get some help on an issue I can't get past.
I've got a series of content movieclips which I'm controlling with menu buttons. As you can see below, they turn visible/invisible by clicking the menu buttons.
However, I can't seem to find a solution to reload the movieclips once a different menu button is selected, so each section stays forever in its previously "played" state when the button is clicked again. Is there a way to get the "content_section" movieclips to re-load or re-set once another navigation button is pressed?

My items no longer sit on top of the gray area outside the stage. When I try to move an item off the stage it goes under and I cant see it.I am using cs 5.5. I think I must have changed an option somewhere, becuase if I open up a new document everything is fine.

It came with the recommendation to try the CS5 today to see if this will meet the requirement at the moment.There is a desire to take custom SWF files (I think there is something called Swish files too?) from various sponsors for advertisement purposes and place them on my website.The implementation was straight-forward to make them work through the webserver.I tried a custom example of making a button that upon mouse click would open up a new webpage in CS5 which did work for me.My problem is since the SWF files are finalized, there is no way to put URL information into those files.After doing a lot of searching around today, it appears that the best way to redirect a user upon click of a video is to:
1) Open up a new Flash
2) Import the SWF video file into the project
3) Create a Invisible Button over top the SWF video so when the user clicks, they are redirected to a specific URL.
But for some reason, when I tried to overlay it with a sample SWF file I imported, there was all this flickering going on to where both were made transparent to one another on the screen not to mention the video wasn't even visible at all.My hope was that the SWF video could be seen clearly while the button remained invisbile to handle the click on the video.Is there someone on the forum that is able to guide me fairly quickly with a fast-path procedure so that I can try this?
