Jun 26, 2009I have a movie into which I am loading external swfs. this all works fine but some of the content is duplicated and where there is slimline text it shows that there are two layers. see the header on white here:
how can i set the alpha to 0 or remove the host movieclip, from the externally loaded swf. does that make sense? so once the external swf has loaded into the empty movieclip then the parent movie disappears.

Nov 5, 2009I am looking for ActionScript 2 code that makes a movie clip disappear when a user moves their mouse over a particular area and then have the movie clip reappear when the mouse leaves that area.
ie. if the mouse is within _x.50 , _x.200, _y.50 , and _y.200 the mc is invisible, else its visible.
I think it would be some kind of "if" statement but I don't know syntax on how to code this.

Oct 17, 2010I have two movie clips on top of each other. The one underneath is a button and the first movieclip is not always no top of it so everything is fine, the bottom one listens for Clicks and Mouse.ROLL_OVER just fine. However whenever the first movie clip moves and happens to stop overtop the button, that is where the problems begin.
Is there any way for me to make the movie clip on top somehow cause the ROLL_OVER to get through to the underlying movie clip as well as the clicks?

Apr 10, 2011Flash CS4 had been working regularly on my Macbook Pro (Intel - Tiger) for a while, and then suddenly,I opened a file and all the movie clips went from being visible "stills" to invisible and represented only by an "o". I have tried settings, preferences, even uninstall/reinstall, but somehow my settings or something got messed up and I can't view movie clips on the stage.
I have tried a variety of different .fla files and none allow movie clips to be visible on the stage.The files were created in CS4.This is true for movie clips that have 1 frame to many frames.When I Publish or Test Movie, the clip is visible and normal, but it is impossible to edit the file without being able to see the movie clips.I know that the issue is with my installation of Flash/settings being messed up, not with the file(s) because when opened on other computers (CS4 and CS5), movie clips are visible on the stage, as they should be.Example below: In Flash CS4, the stage just has "o"s where I used to be able to see my movie clip, but in the Test Movie, everything is there. To be clear, I could see the movie clips in this exact file, and then the next time I opened it I could no longer see them.

Jun 5, 2010CS3 Flash - Complete newbie to Flash and I'm trying to change an existing flash piece.It consists of 4 different text statements that appear on a Black background - the first appears and stays on-screen for 10 secs, then it starts to blur and fade away in about a sec, and then the next statement appears, etc, etc., and the whole lot loops.The 4 statements appear as Video Clips (Symbols?) in the library.I need to add a new statement, which means there will be 5 statements. I duplicated one of the library items and renamed it, which seems to have worked fine... but I cannot then work out how I insert that video clip into the Timeline and still have the same visual effects and timing as the existing ones? I can insert a blank frame, but then I can only drop the new video clip text onto that one frame.I've tried copying and pasting a whole set of frames, and then go in and change the text. Which I thought had worked, but then discovered that it also changed the original frames.... now understand that's because they are just instances and any change will affect the master Video Clip!
So can anyone advise if I can insert my newly added and renamed video clip into the timeframe and create the same effect as the others?Please keep any advice as idiot-proof as possible as this is my first venture into Flash... not finding it as intuitive as I hoped, spent 6hrs to date just trying trial and error without any real success.

I tried placing that code on the main timeline, inside mc_allPages, inside mc_buttonMenu and split up into both buttons appropriately for btn_home and btn_contactUs.Sometimes the animation would stop on frame 10 and sometimes it would just play through to frame 20 and ignore the stop(); I put on frame 10 inside the mc_allPages movie clip.However, whenever I pressed the button ( btn_contactUs ), it never went to the frame labeled "contactUs" in the allPages movie clip.
Professional :: Make Movie Clip Non-clickable Unless Another Movie Clip Is Visible
Mar 22, 2011I'm making a room escape game and I've run into a problem. When an item gets added to the inventory, I'd like the user to be able to click on the item to affect another object (e.g. clicking screwdriver hides screws and displays other image) however when I add the code to the item, if the item is clicked and it's nowhere near the object it affects, the image pops up and it looks really stupid.
So what I'd like to be able to do, possibly using if and else statements or whatever's easiest, is to only have the inventory item be clickable if the movie clip of the object is affects is visible on the stage.

May 17, 2010I am creating a Movie Clip player interface. You can click on a thumbnail and load an external SWF. At the end of that movie clip, I would like to load another SWF, it's just a logo animation filler that plays until the next thumbnail is clicked.

Jan 24, 2010I have an ActionScript 2.0 project with a very simple timeline Alpha Tween ("Classic tween" in CS4) of a movie clip. I need to reposition the movie clip dynamically when the movie is launched, before the Tween is executed (as in "x_mc._x = 100;").
I found out that after changing the clip position the Alpha Tween as well as the Alpha final value are totally ingored. The clip is shown in the updated position but remains throughout in the Alpha setting of the first keyframe (even when it reaches the last keyframe which has a different Alpha setting). I verified that the Tween itself is executed by placing Trace statements at both keyframes. If I remove the repositioning statement, the Alpha Tween works fine (but of course in the original position which is wrong)
Slice-9 Clip Is Invisible In Large CS4 File
Jul 24, 2009I'm using Flash CS4 for Windows XP SP3.I have a large project (12MB) that was originally created in CS2 (it's an Actionscript 2.0 project) that I have now opened and saved from CS4 (still using Actionscript 2.0). There are many movie clips that use 9-slice scaling in the library. While editing a clip that has a child clip that has 9-slice turned on, that child clip is invisible on the stage. The object is still there, and when I double-click the child clip to edit it, I am able to view the clip correctly, but when I return to the parent movie clip, the child clip is invisible again. When I publish the movie, the child clip appears correctly. When I turn off the 9-slice checkbox, the child appears correctly in the parent again.Any project that I open or create after having this large file open exhibits the same behavior, even if I close the large file. I have to restart Flash to make the behavior go away. If I have a file open before opening the large file, that file is not affected and works correctly.Also, a clip that has nested child clips, one of which is a 9-sliced clip, will be be completely invisible in the parent clip, even if some of the other child clips do not have 9-slice checked. ParentClip1 has two children. ChildButton2 is one of those children. ChildButton2 has two of its own children, LabelClip1 and BackgroundClip1. If BackgroundClip1 is set to use 9-slice (it has rounded corners), then neither ChildButton1 or ChildButton2 or its children are visible in ParentClip1 (again, when the file is published everything appears fine in the SWF; this happens only in the Flash CS4 IDE).Finally, I can select "Edit in Place" to edit nested elements, but "Edit in Place" is greyed out when I have a 9-sliced clip selected. I can only select "Edit Selected" if I want to edit that, and when I do that I jump out of edit in place mode (though I can still navigate back to the parents using the breadcrumbs).

May 16, 2010I am building an interactive website as my final project for my Webmastering class and need to know one thing. First I'll give you my setup. I have four Movie Clips in four seperate layers on my main timeline. I want to export one of those Movie Clips as an avi file. When I use export>movie, it exports the main timeline. I figured it would do that. So then I opened up the Movie Clip that I want to export and tried the same thing again. No luck. how to remedy this situation. I have five days to do this and have spent about four days of my life working on this if you add up all the hours that I have spent working on this.

Jun 6, 2010I am new to flash, and I've never done animation before, so I'm a little confused on how to make a symbol movie clip, freeze and then keep moving.
Do I need to do it frame by frame?
I made a character walk from off the stage to the center by using a motion tween and it appears to be moving because I edited the symbol to make the legs move. But now I don't know how to make the legs stop when the character reaches the end of the motion tween. Is it even possible?
