I'm in the process of creating a component for CS4 which uses a custom UI SWF in the component inspector. I read that the component inspector is being removed in CS5 and you will now access component properties in the properties panel. Will developers still be able to create a custom component UI in CS5?

In this case, the 'myButton' component never shows up, but all the elements of the base component do (3 buttons and a datagrid).
I am trying to create a custom component in flex that consists of a Button, and a TileList directly below that button. On button click event the TileList should open/close. The component works fine, but when I add it to my main flex app, inside a VBox, it simply opens and closes within the VBox. Because the height of the VBox is much smaller than the custom component's TileList, it causes scrollbars. My issue with it is that it should behave like a ComboBox/Pull-down menu and go over the VBox, instead of going inside it. how to overlay the custom component, so it behaves like a ComboBox/Pull-down?

It is working well at runtime, bud I have troubles making it working at design-time. How can I make databinding work at the design time? If it is impossible, how should I code the label text assignments?
In my flex app there are a few custom components. I want to create instance of these components at runtime and assign them properties by reading in a config file. I know how to read xml and instantiate components, however my question is about being able to get the type of the component from the xml attribute and then creating an instance of that type.

But it's still fine to insert dates that are outside the range. When a user types in a date, on valueCommit, I'd like to be able to display a hovering notification to the user, to inform/warn them that the date is outside the accepted range.
I'm thinking of notifications ala the Validators, but I'd rather not use the Validator mechanism because it's really not validation, just notification. Something like a tooltip, but it will only appear if the user changed the value. Maybe an effect of some sort?
I would like to create a "component" -- basically a drop-down menu. Except that my drop-down menu will not select an item when a user clicks on it. The user must click on it for 2 seconds and then it will be selected. How can I create this custom widget/component?

am building a site in DW CS4. I have created custom TreeItemRenderer in which i am trying to draw colored Hbox bar at each node except root. Intially when i click on root node it opens first child node with bar but when i open leaf node it does not showing bar and removing existing bard from other few child nodes. I'm building a top view 2D map, that it's objects are stored on the server.The kind of objects are 10 and might be a photo, label, button, lists, mix of them or labels with tooltips.The component must request the "areas" that are missing on screen.An area is 1000x1000 px and is cached in flex.To move in the map, will be like in google maps (drag-and-drop).I should be able to have another list and move objects from one to another using drag-an-drop on objects. Ex.: I grab an objects from a list and I move it on this map, I release the mouse button and the item is placed there.Now the problem is: I build a custom component for this trying to emulate the item renderer for performance and recyclage, implement drag-and-drop on objects and request the areas that are missing?

I extend the List component from spark and I add some features as multiple kind of itemrenderers and use recycle on them. Of course it must be able to request the missing areas on the screen and cache it's data.Maybe create a custom layout is needed too.What I need is something that must be really fluid, so the lighter this component is, the better.

The difference here are two things, the earlier error is while converting flash event to custom event and now this one is while converting custom event to flash event and secondly, I have no clue why it is trying to convert to the mouseevent where I am just dispatching my custom event with proper listeners.

In terms of Flash expertise I am on the the doddering divkid level -- but have mananged to create a custom cursor; a hand that I want to move about over most layers but under one specific layer. Currently, no matter the layer order, when published the cursor image jumps straight to the top.
Is there a property I can imbue in the would-be "top" layer or a way of editing or modifying the custom mouse cursor actionscript that would bring about the desired result?
I'm trying to create a series of scripts that will create some custom event listeners.
I have three movie clips on my stage. One is a movieclip who's sole function is to hold array's and the event listeners. A second which moves around the screen. And a third that is motionless.
The problem is that the argument I want to test (which activates the custom event) is held within a string.
What I want to know is, how do you test to see if the string argument is true?
Is it something similar to this:

I think I'm going about this in the wrong manner, however this is the only way I can think of this working... (since I need to be able to dynamically create these events)
The spark panel component for example can be written like this

The motivation here is that I can now create a couple different skin files to change the look and layout of those subgroups. Reading source of the spark panel, there are some calls within the mx_internal namespace such as getMXMLContent() which is a method of the spark group component, but which I have no access to.
Does the description above make sense? How can I create custom 'contentGroups' in my custom Flex4 component that can use nested mxml child components? Should I approach this a different way?
Is there a point of creating custom event class if i dont need to pass custom property with that event?

But if I install the component in the components folder and try to instantiate it from somewhere else (any folder but the one where the AS class is) I get the following error: ArgumentError:Error #1063: Argument count mismatch on MyComponent. Expected 0, got 4.
View 1 RepliesI am creating a custom Component using ActionScript 3. This Component have some properties that can be changed in the Component Inspector, and in this component i create a text field to show a message that the user define in this panel.
So far, works ok. But i want to give a chance to the user choose a font type to this text field, i found in the Component Definition, a option called "Font Name", with this option, you can select a type of font to use.
The problem is to recover this font in my Class of the component. I try to use the Font Class, but it seems that this class was not created for this. My question is: What Class i have to use to recover the selected font from the Font Name option. I try this:

I'm trying to build a custom FLV preloader for the FLV PLayback component, but every thread refers to using the NetStream.bytesLoaded (non-component FLV command). What are you supposed to do when using the FLVPlayback component??I tried this - but it didn't work. myVideo is the FLVPlayback component.
