I would like to create a "component" -- basically a drop-down menu. Except that my drop-down menu will not select an item when a user clicks on it. The user must click on it for 2 seconds and then it will be selected. How can I create this custom widget/component?

I have the backend code, and can share, but right now I need all these pieces to fit together. It is mostly ELSE/IF statements, starting with the first page, and transitioning to the next widget page depending on the data input, correct or incomplete/incorrect as the variables determining which widget page to open.This will definitely take some Flash skills too, but minimally.Currently the SCENE1 page just shows each of the different widget pages and is not meant to represent the final widget - the final widget will be the first page and when clicked transition to a widget/form different page in the same spot, and again, depending on the input.If you want to give it a try, you can download the .FLA here:
FYI: This same widget HAS been sucessfully programmed in AJAX, with it's tons of code and multiple files, but the challenge was to make it work the same way in Flash. This is the very first TRUE custom Google Voice widget - all others I've found are custom icons that when pressed launch Googles GV widget - so this widget is one of a kind! I have created a custom Flex widget by extending UIComponent that I call FlexMapBuilderWidget. I have overriden the various UIComponent methods for measurement, children, display list, etc.
I used this widget to replace a plain old Sprite so that I could add some layout based functionality. When the Sprite was there, I was able to get scrollbars using:

I have done test output to check the reported size of the FlexMapBuilderWidget in its measure() and updateDisplayList() methods, the size is always reported as a large enough number to require scrollbars.

So web is full of articles on bada (1.2) not having fp9 or having only flash lite 4, or only 3.1... So wikipedia talls us about full FP9 support. I wonder have any one trued to create a widget for Bada (1.2) with FP9 inside? Is it possible ore flash lite 3.1 is limit for widget?

View 1 RepliesI have been trying to use API provided by tringme to create widget to make a call. I am unable to get more information from tringme support about connecting. I assumed that the call wasn't through due to insufficient credit. Even with sufficient credit the call doesn't happen. Have any of you people work on it any time?

I'm in the process of creating a component for CS4 which uses a custom UI SWF in the component inspector. I read that the component inspector is being removed in CS5 and you will now access component properties in the properties panel. Will developers still be able to create a custom component UI in CS5?

am building a site in DW CS4. The site is for a custom nameplate service; once they choose a design and colorway, I'd like to allow customers to preview their name on the sign with, say, 6 different font options to choose from. I've never done any kind of interactive Flash--other than simple mouse actions, so I am at a total loss as to where to get started. Has anybody seen a template that might work?

Currently, no matter the layer order, when published the cursor image jumps straight to the top.

I'm trying to create a series of scripts that will create some custom event listeners.
I have three movie clips on my stage. One is a movieclip who's sole function is to hold array's and the event listeners. A second which moves around the screen. And a third that is motionless.
The problem is that the argument I want to test (which activates the custom event) is held within a string.
What I want to know is, how do you test to see if the string argument is true?
Is it something similar to this:

I think I'm going about this in the wrong manner, however this is the only way I can think of this working... (since I need to be able to dynamically create these events)
Is there a point of creating custom event class if i dont need to pass custom property with that event?

All I am trying to do is create a custom class that extends the MovieClip class and contains a custom property of "marker". I want to be able to use and change the value of this custom property on the timeline for an instance of this class and have it behave just like any other (Ex: this.x ==> this.marker).

I've been playing around with custom classes. My objective was to create a custom class (Testing) that would create a box when an instance of the class is created. I've tried three different approaches, however only (3) seems to be showing up. I'm just curious why (1) or (2) doesn't work?
Also is there a better approach than (3)? Since at the moment it's been created on _root. I hope the box can only be accessible through the instance. Since I'd like to incorporate the whole idea of public, private, encapsulation, etc.

I have written a Class for skinning the UI. The Class works by taking a movie clip name from the stage passed to it and create the skin for it.So I create an Object from the class such as this:

Now what I wanted to do is reference a movie clip from the stage to this CBox variable, so when a call the Class methods it will know which movie clip to work on! Since currently I have to do this:

As you can see Im passing the movie clip, content_mc, everytime. I just want to avoid this by creating a reference.
