Professional :: Create A "Custom Cursor" That Can Move BEHIND Certain Layers?

In terms of Flash expertise I am on the the doddering divkid level -- but have mananged to create a custom cursor; a hand that I want to move about over most layers but under one specific layer. Currently, no matter the layer order, when published the cursor image jumps straight to the top.
Is there a property I can imbue in the would-be "top" layer or a way of editing or modifying the custom mouse cursor actionscript that would bring about the desired result?
I've been looking everywhere but I can't find the solution to this problem. I made a custom cursor and I want the hotspot not to be in the upper left part of the movie clip but in the place of the movie clip that I choose. So, how do you change the hot spot of a custom cursor? I'm using Flash CS4 AS3. I can't believe no one asked this before.
Is it possible to add layers, re-order layers, move movieclips from layer to layer or specify which layer a duplicate movieclip appears on at runtime with AS3?I am aware of the depth properties and the functions associated with that but it would be easier to have a concept of a layer because I am dealing with masks.I have a nasty feeling I'm gonna be told that layers don't really exist within an swf and that depths and setmask are all there is to work with.
I am making use of a custom cursor on itemRenderers in a List component. The custom cursor works just fine except when I mouse over the Text component which is a child of the itemRenderer at which point I get two cursors, the custom and an iBar one on top of the other.Here's the code:
Is it possible to make a custom cursor with restraints (meaning you only see the cursor when you put your mouse in a certain spot, by defining both the max and min of the x & y), that is placed inside a movie clip; then make the movie clip move on the stage when you click certain buttons.
I'm working on an AS3 flash animation where I am using a custom cursor. At the end of the animation I want to default back to the regular arrow/hand cursor
if i move the cursor to a point A, it automatically moves by itself to a point B. then if i move the cursor from B to a point C, it bounces away to a point D. i stumbled upon this site while googling around. i'm not a techie, but yeah, i can handle word processors.
I was wondering is it possible to move layers into another layer. Can I copy movie clip from one layer and paste them into another layer some where else?
I'm in the process of creating a component for CS4 which uses a custom UI SWF in the component inspector. I read that the component inspector is being removed in CS5 and you will now access component properties in the properties panel. Will developers still be able to create a custom component UI in CS5?
I would like to create a "component" -- basically a drop-down menu. Except that my drop-down menu will not select an item when a user clicks on it. The user must click on it for 2 seconds and then it will be selected. How can I create this custom widget/component?
I am using a custom cursor for my flash app and when I have the cursor click button1 (menu_btn in the code) it goes to scene2 and when I click button2 (current_btn in the code) it goes back to scene1. The problem is that when I click on button2 it leaves an image of the cursor right there on the button. It doesn't happen on button1. It was suggested that I am calling "cursor = new Cursor();" and extra time, but I am not. The code is below.

I am having a problem with a flash piece that I created. I don't understand why it is doing what it is doing. I am new to flash but I have been developing software and database applications for over 10 years.I am trying to make a horizontal scroller piece that reads in data from an xml document. So basically the XML has properties of image, title, and link, I then load the images and titles into an object spaced out properly and link the image to open a new window when the image is clicked. I have 4 layers:
1. Actions 2. Buttons 3. Layer1 4. Scroller
The buttons layer has 2 buttons on it, one left aligned and one right aligned. When you mouse over the buttons, the images in the scroller move the direction the button image is pointing. The Scroller Layer has an object of type scroller (which i made) and that scroller instance name is scrollerbar.In actionscript I use a sprite object to load the image and then use scrollerbar.addChild(photo) to add the sprite into the scrollerbar. Then I set it's width, height, x and y to be in the correct position.Now when this first runs, it works displays 6 images and titles and they are linked, and has a button on the left and right. When I mouseover either of the buttons, everything gets moved to the right, the buttons, the scroller, and all the images inside the scroller. So the left button is no longer against the left side, and you can hardly see the right button because it almost gets pushed outside the viewable area.Can anyone explain why everything is getting pushed over like that? It only happens the first time you mouse over a button, subsequent mouseovers of either button do not cause this to happen again.[code]
if there is an option to refer to a layer as a named object. so if I have a layer named 'myLayer' I can to control about the alpha amount, for instance, of all the objects (symbols, movieclips etc.) that inside this layer or to move all those objects together as a one unit by some pixels.
I have an asset file (FLA) that will be updated a lot by other team members during the project. I would like to have an JSFL script that moves all selected movieclips in the timeline to a new layer (named using the movieclips library name).[code]...
am building a site in DW CS4. The site is for a custom nameplate service; once they choose a design and colorway, I'd like to allow customers to preview their name on the sign with, say, 6 different font options to choose from. I've never done any kind of interactive Flash--other than simple mouse actions, so I am at a total loss as to where to get started. Has anybody seen a template that might work?
I have two copies of an image (one called blurPic_mc & one called sharpPic_mc) and I want to be able to move both of them around the screen togethe I need them to stay exactly on top of each other for some other functions I am running but right now the only one that moves is the top one (sharpPic_mc).I included my code below.

CS3 -> CS4 transition newb here who's getting increasingly frustrated with the new motion tweens; however, for this project, I'm working in a 3D space and require using them, so I'm dealing with this bit by painful bit. I found the tip about Split Motion, but first question: how do you apply Split Motion across several layers at the same time? I have six different tweens, and in CS3, I used to be able to shift-click or click-drag across frames and apply a command to all of them (for example, hit F5 to add frames), but Split Motion is requiring me to right-click on each and every layer. This is really laborious, and I worrySimilarly, I tend to add custom keyboard shortcuts to each of my Flash versions for commands I use frequently and don't want to right-click a menu for (such as "add motion tween") - however, I can't seem to find where to create a custom shortcut for either that, or Split Motion.
Have tried to create to create script, by using FOCUS, to move the cursor to next input text box, but not succeeded so far. Anybody knows a source for this kind of script.
The other pondering has bee, how to wipe off predefined text i.e. the text that first shows up in the message input box, when the form is opened. At the moment to be cleared by marking and DEL. I am looking to something like when the cursor moves in text dissapeares in the first instance only.
I've got a main textfield myTextfield01. When I put focus on another textfield which is empty (either manually by clicking on another field, or like below using setFocus) I want the focus to go back to myTextField01 again. And put the blinking cursor and the very end of whatever is typed into it. So I tried this.
But that didn't work. It went back to myTextfield01, but the blinking cursor stayed at the empty textfield and any text typed would be added to that empty field.When I put this in frame one:

it did work. Both focus and cursor where in myTextfield01 again.So why doesn't it work when I combine it all in one frame?
I have just re-installed Flash CS4 onto two Vista machines (laptop and desktop) and the response time of the authoring screens is ridiculously slow on both. For example with the Actions Panel displayed, it takes 18-20 seconds to move the cursor along a line of code.
All other CS4 appilcations such as Photoshop, Fireworks and Illustrator all work very well and have no such problems. The computers have plenty of hard disk space and RAM (eg. Acer Aspire Desktop new computer with 1Tb disk and 3Gb Ram) and the CPUs are running at less than 50% (task manager) and there are no other apps running. I have disabled Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 with no effect.
I have made a simple "maze game".Player is sent to frame 10 if they reach the end goal or frame 20 if they accidentally "rollover" my walls (button). In frame 1, I successfully remove the mouse and add a Movie Clip to the Mouse/Cursor. I remove the MC when they go to frame 10 OR frame 20 and then when they replay and are sent back to frame 1. The MC again appears as the Cursor. GREAT. Now here's my problem. When they are sent back to frame 1, I want the Cursor to be at an exact position to replay the game. Right now, it ends up wherever they have the cursor pointing and if it is touching my "walls", game over immediately. Here is the code I have on frame 1. It is working BUT I need to add code that makes the cursor ALSO go to a specific position.

I developed an application in flex. In my application I placed an image and set the tooltip property. I also changed the image Hand cursor property to true. Here I need that, the tooltip must be move with hand cursor.
I'm trying to make a movieclip move with my cursor when the startGame button is clicked, however the movieclip that i'm going to parent to my cursor is in the second frame of mainMc....
there is no error generate in my code when tested but the movieclip that i;m going to parent stuck on the left side and refuses to follow my cursor? why is that happening? It would normally work if i just use it without thanks click event.....

I have a text area control on a form that is supposed to accept 5 digit US zip codes. I have assigned the control a keyUp event that checks the number of characters entered until it reaches 5 then forces a new line.

It works fine except that when the new line is inserted, the cursor moves to the beginning of the textarea. I want it to go to the end.
