I have a series of dynamic text fields that do not show text when published. The fonts for these text fields are embedded and I do not get any errors on publishing. The project worked perfectly in CS4, but now in CS5, I had to re-embed all of the fonts in the dynamic text fields, but they won't show. What could be the problem?
View 2 RepliesSo, I have some basic actionscript code. It's a legacy site, so I'm using AS2. The line of code simply does this:
myField.text = "some text"
So, I select the text field on the stage, then ensure the font is embedded. All the glyphs I want are checked, but then when I compile and test, the fonts don't show up when the code is executed. Instead, the textfield is blank! What happened?! Where did the text go?
I should mention that the .swf which I compile is loaded into another parent .swf during runtime. If that parent .swf does not contain embedded fonts, is that why it's broken?
I have a static textfield using Myriad Pro bold font that, when set to STATIC TEXT works absolutely fine, in the correct font. If I set it to DYNAMIC TEXT and test the SWF, the text shows up as a system font; not Myriad Pro If I set it to EMBED CHARACTERS the text doesn't show up at all on ANY system, whether the font is installed or not.
I have tried adding the font to the Library and using that "Family" for Properties>Character in my dynamic text box, but get the same results as when I don't set that to EMBED CHARACTGERS. I've tried selecting the font for the textfield as both the standard OS Font, as well as the one with the Asterisk next to it, but get the same results both ways. The library font is set to "export for actionscript" and "on frame 1". I don't think it's an issue with the font not being available, as I'm able to see it when setting textfield to STATIC type, and I use the font in other CS4 products (Photoshop, etc.).
I'm trying to get into flash and one of my movies doesn't display all the characters I tell it to display in a dynamic text box. example:
Actionscript Code: if (day() == Saturday){tomorrow.text = "Sunday";}
and what comes out is: Suday
I'm using ActionScript 2 and I did embed the font in the library

When published all else shows up except the dynamic text. The properties have been set on "Bitmap Text (no anti-alias)" and fonts not seemingly embedded..
I have a main SWF that loads a child SWF that includes a form and a dynamic text box for displaying errors. However, when people type into the form, the text is not visible. However, if you type something, then do select all and copy it copies text. It's there, just not visible.

I'm having a problem with dynamic text where in the text is not showing.Code:dynamic_txt.text = "some text here";I tried to run a trace on it and the text string is correct. I also tried putting an event listner to the dynamic text and the event listner is working. Does anyone has an idea why the text of the dynamic text is not showing?

Embedding the font
rendering text as html
making the font _sans
changing AA method
im sure I've tried some other random stuff as well..
Basically I've created an order form over multiple pages for products.. everything works.. on the last page which i have named overview I have a script on the top layer which basically fills out 3 dynamic text fields with the products they have ordered.
The script works.. it loads the text into the textfields they are just not visible.
I can even select the text when I enable "Make text selectable".
I'm trying to change the properties of a textbox, and only TLF Text and Classic Text is showing up
View 1 RepliesI've discovered the joy that you cannot display dynamic text boxes if they are masked.After browsing the internet I found a few things to try, first embedding the font, which I have done, and that didn't work.The other solution involves setting the mask to a display object, which I've done, sort of.I create a Sprite() in code (I use Flex Develop, and never code on the time line), then use the Sprite.graphics to draw the mask, then set my main stage movieClip's .mask property to equal this layer.

As soon as I do that the text data doesn't load from the external XML file. The code that previously worked was:_root.prompt = this.firstChild.childNodes[1].firstChild.nodeValue; prompt_txt.text = _root.prompt;But now I made the dynamic text field prompt_txt a movie clip named prompt_mc and it doesn't load. So I realize now that prompt_txt lives inside prompt_mc but how do I get the text data from the XML file there???
View 4 RepliesI'm having trouble getting an external.swf to show dynamic text in the parent swf. When I run the external swf by itself the text shows up fine, but when I try to load it into another swf using the MovieClipLoader the dynamic text doesn't show up.

The text is loaded into the dynamic field from another variable, long story short it all works, except for if I try to embed fonts. One thing, the dynamic textbox is html enabled, and I have <b> tags within the code, so the text ends up being bold. This is how I want it. Do I have to 'embed' a bold variation of the font as well as the regular variation?

So far, I am going with Actionscript 3. So far I have the code below, but it puts data in a listbox. What is the easiest way to put the data in three dynamic text boxes inside a movie clip, so I have one for the title, one for description and one for link (shown as 'read more' text but a link using the url from the rss value)?I am really banging my head against the wall on this one and want to get it sorted asap,I have also attached an image to show what I am trying to do:I also want to know if it's possible to show rss values only if they exist. View 3 RepliesI'm writing a scrolling shooter game and have a dynamic text field that holds the game score. Running inside an ENTER_FRAME event listener, it updates every frame. By tracing the variable "score" I get the correct numbers showing up in the output tab, but on screen, I only see the number 2. It doesn't matter what position in the number it is (ie: 20, or 10372, or 521), only that digit will show up. If there is no number 2 in the score, the field only shows the word "Score: "
The variable is declared as such:
var score:int = 0;
The text field is called scoreCard and is set to "Classic Text" and Dynamic Text" and it is 638 pixles wide (almost the entire width of the stage).
Here is the code for updating the scoreCard:
scoreCard.text = 'Score: ' + score;
trace(score);
The trace was simply put in to see if the score was being tallied up correctly, which it is.
I have also tried eliminating 'Score: ' and simply used:
scoreCard.text = score.toString();
and gotten the same results.
I am trying to make a simple count up flash project. I am still very new to flash. But I've done count ups before. It took me awhile but I finally got rid of ALL the errors, but yet the dynamic text I have setup is not showing anything.

Now my question is, can I use a dynamic text box with Verdana for my font in the "content" sections and have it come out looking sharp, or would I only be able to use a font if it's embedded??.. After a lot of trial and error I found the latter of the two to be right until I checked out 2advanced's site and noticed that they (I'm assuming) are doing they same thing as me as far as embedding their swf's so it looks POSSIBLE..

I have a button, and inside the button, i have a dynamic text field that i want to display a global variable in the "over" frame. (when the mouse goes over the button)
Normally, to make a dynamic text field show a global variable, I put the dynamic text box INSIDE a movie clip, and then define the variable in the movie clip.
For example, i would put this into the movie clip containing the dynamic text box:

Inside a button though, it doesn't work! I'll leave an attachment as an example of what I want.
I am creating a simple game for kids. On the first page, I added an "input text" field for their first name. I called the variable firstname.When they move to the next page, I used a "dyanamic text" field so I can call them by name on this page. It works. However, When I test the game, on the first page, where the firstname is input, it shows_level0.firstname instead of just a blank space for them to input their name. I know I fixed this in the past and it was something simple, but I can't remember how to do it

These fields use embedded fonts and work when I first add text and the format to themThe issue I'm having happens when I change the _alpha of the containing movieClip to 0. After that I can not get the text to appear again, even though the _alpha on the containing clip traces out to 100.I am not using the tween class on the textFields or containing clip to achieve the _alpha. I am however using the tween class elsewhere.
View 9 Replieson my site I have a dynamic text field and text is coming in from XML files..in the xml I embedded an image. Every time you click a button on the menu it changes the text and the image to correspond with that xml file. So here is my problem. When you click on a button it first tries to load all the text then resizes it in order to accommodate the image causing this "flicker" effect everytime you click. [URL]

I followed the loading embedded SWF file tutorial and it works fine. I followed the loading external data dynamic text box tutorial and it works fine.... My problem lies when I combine them both. My main.swf contains an embedded about.swf. The about.swf contains a dynamic text box that reads an external text file. by its self, the about.swf works fine. For some frustrating reason (probably super simple), I cant see the dynamic text when I load my main.swf. On my main.swf the dynamic text scroll bar even able to scroll (as if something was there), but I cant see it or highlight it with my mouse.!
View 3 RepliesI am trying to create a text box with actionscript, using an embedded font, and populating it with HTML text. It seems I can either use an embedded font, or HTML formatted text, but not both. To illustrate the problem, I have created a little test.
1. Create a font symbol in the library. Export it for actionscript as "_mainFont".
2. Create a dynamic text box on the stage using _mainFont and type some random text in it, including the use of bold and italics. Set the font size and colour to whatever you like. Name the instance "templateText".
3. On the first frame, type in these actions:

The textbox should display correctly, using the correct font, colour and all the HTML formatting. Unfortunately, I need to create text on the fly. So modify the actionscript to create a new text field instead of using the template text:

What happens? I get the right font. The < font color > tag works OK, I get the breaks and the underline, but I get no bold and no italics. Finally, let's make some use of the templateText box by using its formatting. Replace the line:
var textBoxFormat = new TextFormat(); with
var textBoxFormat = _root.templateText.getTextFormat();
Now the text is formatted with the right font, the same colour and size of the templateText box, but I've lost the HTML font colour and underline in addition to the bold and italics.If I take out the Embed Fonts, I get back bold and italics, but loose font colour and underline, as well as the wrong font.
embed 20 fonts into a movie. Upon the user typing a word in an input text field AND checking a box or radio button indicating a font style, could Flash generate the input text to an output field with the font choice in the next frame?
