I do not know really anything about ActionScript. I have completed a tut on it but that is all. I am trying to make a hyperlink from a classic arcade button but the code I found is apparently from AS2.

View 38 RepliesI've only played around with a dressup and dating sim - and coding using actionscript (and coding in general, only done a little bit of VB and Python before). I've been following a nice arcade side-scroller tutorial on this site which has three parts, if you want to view and go over them to help. It was designed for Flash 5 and I'm using Flash 8 Pro.[code]Anyway, as I was going through and coding/drawing the whole thing I came across a lot of problems and glitches (and a lot of times when the game coding would crash and I'd have to abort it and remake the entire coding again). I sort of stumbled around blindly, deleting and editing code to get things to work, and I'm up to the point where I'm almost finished with the thing. It's still glitchy though.I was wondering if any Flash coders could help me out?I'm going to be creating a Flash game for my programming class and I would prefer if it wasn't screwy (if I need to remake it with less cutesy graphics). xD;; If you could download the .Fla file and fix the coding problems I have.
Playable SWF game on my deviantart account.FLA downloadable file (@ Mediafire; no viruses, trojans, blahblah attached)The enemies tend to randomly explode before the missile has even hit them.The original enemy movie clip doesn't even want to explode.The score counter won't tick for each kill.The boundary box (?) of the player/enemy seems to be too big. You die before you should - in certain positions the enemy gets close and I guess the boundary boxes hit, which initiates the hitTest. It seems premature though, I'm wondering if I can reduce the boundary box, or have it so the enemy and player collide on the actual graphic, and not the movie clip box? I have no idea if this makes sense, I hope it does.There seems to be a bunch of other small glitches too.
I'm building a a space shooter "Defender" type game, and I'm having a problem with the hit test. My laser hits the enemy (which a duplicate). Enemy movie clip goes to it's frame to which a short explosion animation. The hit test works fine, but since there is more than frame in the "enemy" movie clip, the hit test cycles through every frame of the "enemy" clip until it passes through it's boundaries. Is there a way to only have it hit test with only the first frame of a movie clip?
This is the script on my laser movie clip that performs the hit test:

You know how when you click on youtube's video it takes you to a youtube page with the video. i am trying to make the same thing for my video. basically, i need a way to make an invisible frame put it on the entire stage, and decide when to show it.( when it becomes clickable and when not.. )...so i am guessing an invisible BUTTON?

I'm creating a swf that will go on a web page. It involves a circle which is divided into several portions, each of which must link to a different site. I've created the circle and a simple animation that will serve as the hover state for each of the segments, now all I need to do is get the appropriate links implemented. I know how to add a link to text in Flash, but is there an easy way to add one to another element such as a movie clip?

So there are three menu buttons, and the page flys in animations depending on the button pushed.I have another button named LINK, and I thought it would just be a matter of inserting the following code somewhere:

But no matter where I put it, it just makes my site play through all the animations one after the other regardless of whether buttons have been clicked or not, and the link won't work.Where should I put this code and is it correct? Also, once it's working, I want to copy it and make another button for creating an email.Is that just a matter of having a mailto: link instead of a hyperlink?

So far, I have found the object in the library and it's called a "sprite" and has something in the "linkage" field next to it. I've right clicked on it and tried both the Edit and Properties options and can't find what I am looking for anywhere.

I copied that frame and pasted it on the last frame of the movie. When I play the movie, I get the mouse-over for the button, but when I click, nothing happens. How do I get the url to work?
I want to make a button (or graphic) active and visible if another button is clicked. But it must be invisible and unclickable before the other button is clicked. (this is a "find the differences between the 2 pictures game" and I want circles to appear over the differences that the user finds but only after he clicks it)
The button (or graphic) I want to become active has instance name of "sockcircle_btn" The button you click to make it appear is called "sock_btn"
In the first frame of the sockcircle_btn layer, this is my code

However, I have a "Main" movie that I am trying to import the 4 swf files into. They import fine and I have no problems except that when I test/export the movie the links in the original swf files no longer work.

I have a grid of buttons that correspond to different questions. The function would be as follows: The button "eng_1" (as in "English for 100 points)is clicked.This makes the button "eng_1_q" (as in :English 100 question) visible, so the question can now be read.The button "eng_1_q" is clicked, and that button is then made invisible. The question can not be seen, now we have returned to the board.The original "eng_1" is now a different colour (or left in it's "down" state) to show that the question has already been asked (not sure if this should be part of the function of "eng_1" or "eng_1_q").My idea would be something like this.
