Actionscript 3 :: Adobe AIR Runtime Compatibility?

Mar 21, 2012

Is it possible that an adobe air application that runs fine with an older installed AIR runtime stops working or works buggy if it is installed on a system that has a newer version of the runtime installed?

Flex :: Unable To Use Runtime After Migrating From Flex3 To 4 In Compatibility Mode?

Aug 19, 2010

We are migrating our Flex-3.2 application to Flex 4.1, mainly to take advantage of the new text flow/engine features. In a first step we decided to go with compiling for MX-only and in Flex-3-compatibility mode.

[code]....

Now do the same in Flex 3 and you'll see both events fire.Apparently, this is a bug. Might be possible to work around this but certainly decreases my level or trust substantially.2) Dialogs/popups show all content mirrored.A bug as well. Easy to work around, but how could something that obvious slip?

Difference Between The Flash Player Runtime And Adobe AIR Runtime?

Nov 16, 2009

I've been into coding for about 5 years now, but I'm a recent convert to Flash development. One of the questions I have at the moment is, considering that SWF files can be run by either Adobe Flash Player OR Adobe AIR, what's the real difference between the two runtime environments? What API's and Objects exist in one environment, but not the other?

Basically what I'm more or less trying to establish is, when would I want to develop an SWF for AIR, and when would I want to develop for Flash Player, considering that Flash Player can also execute locally (providing support for creating "desktop applications")

Start Adobe Flex App On OS X With Just AIR Runtime And Swf?

Jan 23, 2011

I know it is possible to run an Adobe Flex compiled .swf from the command-line using the adl command-line tool.

Is there an equivalent way to run a Flex .swf from the command-line using the system installed AIR runtime?

My question applies to OS X, but I'd interested to know about other platforms also.

Why Doesn't Adobe Opensource The Flash Runtime Engine

Nov 17, 2010

It seems to me like the biggest arguments against Flash right now falls into three categories:It is slow and battery intensive. Basically that it uses too much CPU than it should. It is not an open standard. Eveyone knows how HTML/CSS and JavaScript operate inside. Flash is not open.It has security flaws which make it insecure.

Seems like all of these concerns could be addressed if Adobe opensourced the Flash player. Third parties could contribute to and audit the code base, and optimize and fix bugs. Adobe could concentrate on making the apps and environments that author Flash content best. Well, Adobe hasn't done that yet. Why not? What are the business/technical reasons that makes Adobe want to keep control of a closed source Flash player?

Android :: What Versions Of Android And IOS Is Adobe AIR 3.0 Captive Runtime Compatible With?

Nov 16, 2011

I can't find this information online or in the documentation, does anyone know what versions of Android and iOS the AIR 3.0 captive runtime is compatible with? I'm assuming there is some restriction there, but short of actually compiling a program and trying it on iPhone for example, which I don't have, how can I tell which OS versions are supported?

I know that you can compile an Adobe AIR 2.7(?) application to target say Android 2.2, but what about the captive runtime with AIR 3.0? Also I don't see anywhere to find out the iOS version restriction with AIR, as you have to pay $100 to Apple to even get the SDK which would allow me to make an iOS project in the first place.

My challenge to myself; content must fill the window, whatever size/orientation, and up to pretty extreme aspect ratios in both directions (landscape/portrait). The images must follow suit, but I don't what space appearing around them - they must stay just big enough to fill and be cropped/overflow/be hidden but (importantly) no bigger. One other thing; no scroll bars anywhere.

Professional :: Compatibility Between CS4 And CS5 Flash?

Jan 26, 2011

I'm working off CS4 and using mainly Premiere Pro. I'm also using Photoshop, Flash, Soundbooth from CS4 and using files from those applications in Premiere Pro. All good so far. My projects have a few layers but really nothing too complicated. I work with someone who will eventually create the flash elements of our projects. To do this the company ordered further licenses for CS4 but we received CS5 instead.

If she loads CS5 onto her computer and creates Flash files (CS5) that I then use in Premiere Pro CS4, will it be compatible? Also, if I want to then adjust that CS5 flash file in Flash CS4, will that work, or will I encounter problems? Should we go with the CS5 or try and get another copy of CS4 for the new computer? (My computer needs to stay CS4).

IDE :: Flash Compatibility In Web Browsers?

Jun 27, 2009

I was wondering, because of my recent liking of AS3 and active flash content:

Just how compatible are flash files in web browsers?

Will they run in every browser? (obviously not, but which ones don't they run in / which ones do they have trouble running in?)

Why, in Internet Explorer does it always give me a hard time about running active content with its security warnings? (is there a way to get around this / allow the content to play normally without hassle? e.g When I got to Sony.com Internet Explorer does not complain about running that active content.)

Is there anything else you know about the compatibility that you would like to share?

"The document 'blahblahblah.fla' was created with 'Adobe Flash Professional CS5.5' and cannot be opened in this version of Flash." Did Adobe really bollix up the normal convention of software version numbering(#.001 - #.999 signifies compatibility) or is there something else going on?

Javascript :: Silverlight And Flash Bridge Compatibility?

Dec 23, 2010

I'm developing a Silverlight4 drop-in replacement for an existing Flash client. I would like to maintain compatibility with the existing Flash HTML bridge javascript functions, but I can't figure out how to expose the javascript interface directly on the Silverlight client object instead of a contained object.

In Flash, it is possible to call Bar() directly on the client object, as in:

var flashClient = document.GetElementById(_currentFlashId);
flashClient.Bar();

But in Silverlight, I haven't found a means to call an interface directly on the Silverlight object. Instead, it appears interfaces can only be exposed on contained objects, as in:

When I look at the onion skin view, I don't see the gradual movement- just the balls.  What am I doing wrong, or does this have to do with flash not being compatible with the new snow leopard?
