I have a dynamically created slider with AS3:
I can reference the thumb by s.getChildAt(1) ~ that took me quite a while to figure out!
But how would I assign a new graphic to it?

I'm wondering if you can take the stock Flash CS5 scrollbar component and modify it to use a graphics for the thumb and track. I see that you can modify the art of the component, but it seems to have the 9 slice thing going on so it scales nicely... but doesn't work right with a graphic. What I need is to have a scrole like that attached photo.

I am trying to create a slider component where the thumb does not display until the user clicks on the bar. When the user does click on the bar the thumb would appear wherever the mouse is on the bar. I have no experience with the display package and since I am pretty new to using flash in general I cant think of any other creative way to do it. How to make objects display and display where the mouse is clicking.

I am attempting to reskin the AS3 Slider component to have arelatively "tall" draggable thumb graphic. However, the sliderthumb always seems to be forcibly scaled down to 13x13 regardlessof the size of the graphic. I'm currently using the drag-and-dropcomponent on workspace method, and double-clicked the livepreviewto change the skin pieces.I've tried resizing the contents of the SliderThumb_*Skin(upSkin, downSkin, ...) symbols, the Slider component itself on thestage, and even the placeholders on the double-click skin organizersheet. The height of the thumb object is not directly accessible(seems to be private). The translated position of the 13x13 thumbrelative to the symbol center is preserved correctly... but thesize seems to be stuck at 13x13.
Is there a workaround for this? I've searched and found a fewFlex solutions having to do with overriding a measure() method orextending the class to hard-code a different height, but none ofthe corresponding classes (e.g. one site recommended extendingmx.controls.sliderClasses.SliderThumb) seem to be accessible withinthe Flash AS3 implementation of the components.

The slider thumbs in my Flex 3 application usually work correctly, but often they seem to become insensitive to mouse downs on what should be thumbPress events. It turns out that mouseOut events are being fired as the mouse moves away from the edge of the thumb towards the center. The thumb is sensitive to mouseDown events only when it is in the "over" state.
I am seeing the same behavior: Displaying the default thumb rather than my custom class Using a hitArea sprite (I tried a child TextInput sized to cover the thumb with alpha 0). Can anyone suggest either a fix or a workaround? I can identify the faulty mouse out events, but then don't know how to compensate, for example, by reestablishing the "over" state, or perhaps with programmatic control of the mouse.

I would like to know if there is a way to update the position of the thumb on the Slider component when a movie clip plays. Currently I have a movie clip symbol on my stage with the instance name ShapeMC. It has about 10 frames or animation and two actions. the first frame has a stop action as does the last frame. The actions are on their own layer, separate from the actual animation. I also have the slider component in my library, but it is only there so I can reference it through AS3. My AS3 instantiates a variable of type Slider. I then define the properties, like the width, hieght, thumb size, minimum, maximum, as well as enabling livedragging. I did this so the user can drag the slider and move through the Movie Clip symbol. I added a button that allows the user to click it and autoplay the Movie Clip symbol (ShapeMC). All that works. What I would like to do is when I hit the play button, I would like to see the thumb on the slider move along the slider as the Movie Clip symbol (ShapeMC) plays. So if the Movie Clip symbol reaches frame 5, the slider thumb show be seen as being half way through the tread. I tried putting the currentFrame into the .value property of the slider, but that didn't do anything. No errors, but it didn't move the thumb at all.

Has anyone yet been able to figure out how to resize the "thumb" (the actual part you drag) inside the slider component in Flash CS4?
I looked into the fl.controls.slider but whatever I changed it would not let me resize the thumb.

Is there a way to change a graphic, but keep the properties across frames such as size and positioning, so that the new graphic does everything the same? That's pretty much all I can ask since I don't really know where to start.

Using a bunch of the tutorials on this great site, I've been teaching myself AS, and inparticular the XML parse, etc. with the loop commands to load an ideterminate number of images, etc. attributed in an XML file.I've got the attached code to work before - and it works well here too, loading all the thumbnails in their correct location, and as per the XML file. BUT now it's part of this page, the 'current_thumb' seems stuck on the last thumbnail, and a rollOver of any thumbnail will cause only the last one to action. In addition, when I put the trace command in on the onRollOut function (trace(current_thumb_mc) I get "_level0.menu_mc.item3_mc" no matter which of the four tumbnails I rollOver.

i'm making a game and i don't know what script to use to change the alpha color of the graphic symbol i used.the game is a shooting game, ex: target points is 50, if the score is 25 the alpha color should be at 50%, if score is 50 alpha is at a 100%i tried this script but it doesn't work

So lets say I make a chess board in flash that is a top down view. Then if I want it in isometric view I simply go to the transform window and enter the skew properties of 60 and 30.
Now here is my question, is there a way to change from this ISO view back to the normal top down view?

I am building an RPG type game in flash and have hit upon my first problem.I have created a character out of various different body parts (upper arm, lower arm, hand, head, etc..) I would like to make it possible to change the look of each of these body parts (different types of armor / clothing) whilst maintaining the whole body animations.I'm becoming confused about how many things are inside each other! Rather than recreate a whole new set of animations for every conceivable combination of armor and clothing it should be possible to simply change one of the graphics within the movieclip that is the character.
So the structure I have thought of is like this:Whole body > Changeable graphic > Base Body Part (bare arm for instance)What is a sensible way to go about doing this? I'd like to have a solution that is easily scalable and won't require notably more work if there are 10 different types of changeable graphic or 1000.I think that I need use the event that triggers the armor / clothing to change for that body part, to run a script that either somehow changes which graphic it is displaying, possibly inside the Base Body Part movieclip.

so i tried to make an emoticon in chat, it worked actually. but only if you type "/smile", it will turn into "" << colon and closed parenthesis. not if you type "bla bla bla ".

the only thing I found in the documentation was loadBitMapdata and methods of that type. Not sure if that's what I want.
In particular, I have an existing movieclip that is linked in my library. It has a graphic, a timeline, etc. However, I want to dynamically change it to another graphic and timeline.
Do i have to create a new movie clip with the new graphic and timeline? But I still want to keep all the attributes of my original movieclip, I just want the new graphic and timeline.

I'm stuck on this annoying bug of Flash:to animate a character i have different graphic symbols of hand positions inside a single container graphic symbol; that way instead of having to swap different symbols while animating and tweening, i just have to change the number on the "single frame" input box on the properties of the symbol.
It worked fine a few sessions ago, but now it won't let me change the frame number if there's a tween before that keyframe; tha keyframe isn't participating on any tween, and may even have some frames between the previous tweening one. The only way it will change is if i remove the first tween or add a blank keyframe between them, wich of course isn't an option when animating... i know it would work if i add a new layer and continue there, but it'll add a lot of mess to the already busy timeline.
The strange thing is that it remains working on some frames, from the previous session, and if a cut and paste them i can change the frame number freely; but if i try to build a secuence from scratch, it won't let me, even on a new document.

if you can set and change different properties of a graphic symbol using AS? I know you can change MC's and buttons. I also know that you can change graphic symbol properties using the prop inspector. I was thinking that since you can change properties like _alpha in the Prop Inspector, how to you set and control them using AS.

I have a problem with scaleX and scaleY. When I use them for images created by photoshop their graphic decrease a lot. I use scaleX and scaleY for changing the size of image so scaleX equal with scaleY. Is there another way to change the size of image in actionscript without decreasing graphic?
