I have a game made by Flash CS5 ActionScript3. I want to create a button in the game where I can save the current timeline of the game. For example, I stopped at frame 5 and save the game. So when I load it, I should instantly return to frame 5.

I'm developing Flash for a CD.I want to create a button for the user to click and then have a choice to save or open file (like PDF or Word file).
i have the following code:

I can't see anything wrong with the above. I intend to use the code for a CD ROM.abc.doc will sit on the CD ROM. When I click on the button, it opens a browser window and tries to go to google.com.I had it working the other day.

For the life of me I can't figure out how to trace out the current label in my movie's main timeline. This is in AS3. I have a button on stage that spans the timeline of the movie. It detects keypresses. I want to trace the current frame label that the play head is on.

I get "_level0" for this...and undefined for the rest. What am I doing wrong here?

We used Flex to build the web app below. It lets the user build an interactive activity and click "Publish as Flash" to save a SWF file on their local computer.http:[url].........
Problem: When saving the file, the "Save As Filetype" drop down is empty and end users can accidentally delete the swf file extension in the filename.How can we lock down the extension so it will always have SWF in the extension?
Technique 1? Set "Save As Filetype" to SWF by default.
Technique 2? Click "Publish as Flash".User specifies the filename.File is saved on the server. User presented with prompt to download file. File is downloaded from the server using the traditional browser windows explorer dialog box (the same dialog box if I downloaded a program from cnet's [url]...........)

I just started doing AS3 for Flash and I'm trying to create a flash app that has 2 things inside. An InputTextBox which is called txt_userinput and a Button called btn_submit.Bascially, the user just need to type in some word in the InputTextBox and press btn_submit. The data will then be sent to a testing.TXT in my DESKTOP. My .FLA file is in MY DOCUMENTS while the testing.TXT is in my DESKTOP.
Question 1: Question is, how do I make the data from txt_userinput to be sent to the .TXT in my DESKTOP?For example, the user typed "Hello, how are you?" in the InputTextBox. In the .TXT file, I want it to show "Hello, how are you?".
PS: testing.TXT file is already created in the desktop, just waiting for flash to write the data in and keeps on adding more data in the future in the following format.

I want to find a way to get the number of the current frame of the main timeline using code in the timeline.
So like in frame 10 of the timeline I put in some actions. I want to make a variable that gets the number of the current frame so I can use it later.
Something like this:

I've been looking for a tutorial to create a timeline scrubber (not animating specific movie clips, but actually a scrubber that can move along different keyframes of a timeline that has a series of images on it).I found a bunch of these (scrubber controlling specific movie clips): http:[url]....but nothing that allows you to just scrub back and forth on the whole timeline in the exported swf.

I created an empty MC on the main timeline:

addChild(ribbonMC);
On the main timeline I have another MC which loads a DataGrid mcomponent.I have a ListEvent.ITEM_CLICK attached the DataGrid.When a row is clicked, I want to replace the ribbonMC clip I created with a different MC.However, no matter what I do I cannot seem to
properly remove the clip and add it to the main timeline in its place.I have tried getChildByName() in order to grab the clip:
var rmc:DisplayObject = getChildByName("ribbonMC"); (I've
tried type MovieClip here too)
But all I seem to get is a null object, so it cannot be unloaded. Even if I did grab it, I cannot seem to figure out how to add my new MC to the main timeline from inside the current movie clip in any event. Since _root is no longer used in AS3.

I'm having problems with many files losing their assets from the timeline after a save and reopening the file in Mac OS X Snow Leopard. This is happens quite often now and there seems to be no pattern to it. For example, I will open an existing Flash animation complete with sound and artwork, make changes to the animation timing, test the SWF and everything looks good, then save. After reopening the exact same file, there will be audio that was on the timeline will be an empty frame. In addition, there is art work that was swapped out or updated to a character and the symbols becomes empty after reopening.

I was just wondering how to save CPU usage by removing inactive movie clips on the timeline. An example of what I mean is, I currently have five buttons and when you click each of them an MC tweens into the middle of the screen. But by the time you click the fifth button there are 5 MC's (with animations going on inside them) on top of each other and everything becomes quite jittery.I just wanted to get rid of the ones below until someone clicks their button again...

i want to keep track of what frame the current flash movie is on. I've come across "_currentFrame" so i guess that's a step in the right direction. What i need though is a listener which will always give me the current frame.
What i am doing is having director MX 2004 call a frame via a label in flash and then i want to load on image based on what frame number it calls.
so i reason something like...

How do you record / save a button press in Flash as3 and send it to moodle via scorm? I have two buttons, 'choice1' & 'choice2', and would like the users' choice to be recorded to SCORM. I just need to send 'some text' to moodle when the user presses either button.
Have been pointed to 'cmi.interactions' but after spending the entire day trying to find a working example, I'm completely lost. There appear to be no coded examples anywhere.

I'm making a first-person adventure game where I have the different frames in the root movie be the various locations that the user can interact with. I want to have fading transitions between the scenes and I was wondering if this was possible in flash. What I've tried for now is to create an array with all the current children then when the frame is changed I add those objects on top of the new frame and use a (alpha) Tween object to fade them out. This doesn't seem like a good idea and feels very hackish, so I had a few questions:
1. Is there an event that is called when a frame is changed (Event.FRAME_CHANGE doesn't exist ) since the way I'm doing it now is to have a local variable which I compare with this.currentFrame.
2. This may sound weird, but is there a way to create a screenshot of the current visible area and use that as one would any other visible object? This would allow me to Tween that one out instead of the array of children that I'm using now. I know it's possible in OpenGL, to render the current view scope to a texture array, but does Flash have this capacity?
PS: This is all done inside a separate class, in case that matters (I am very noobish).

Right now I have a static way that I set the url's to 5 buttons, here's a sample of what I am doing:

I have everything working fine but I have been asked that the url's are loaded from a xml file instead of static. Not quite sure where to go from here..I've read how to read from xml but do I need to set the values in global variables?

of course i could hardcode that - but if I then change something about the as file, the linenumbers won't be correct anymore, or maybe i rename the as file and so on. It'd be great to be able to create that string somehow using compiler directives. Is this Possible in an AIR application created with ActionScript 3.0?

I have flash navigation on two pages (index.php & index2.php). I am attempting to have the button determine the current url.
If the current page is index2 it loads the appropriate movie If the current page is not index2 it goes to index2 and then loads the appropriate movie.
