Actionscript 3 :: Draw A Rectangle Using The Graphics Class, But Move The Registration Point?
May 18, 2011
I have the following code to create a Sprite with a rectangle in it:
container = new Sprite();
container.graphics.beginFill(0x00CCFF, .5);
container.graphics.lineStyle(1, 0x00CCFF);[code].......
The only thing is, I'd like the registration point to be in the middle (not the top left corner). Is there a way to set up the registration point in the middle of the rectangle, but still have the position of the rectangle be correct?
i.e. not moved over so that the top left corner of the rectangle is in the "middle" of where I want the rectangle to be...

Is it possible with ActionScript to move a MovieClip's registration point?I'm having issues with scaling an object (via actionscript) from different points (left side, right side, centre) and getting round off error.Without moving the registration point, I need to fake the scaling to make it look like it's scaling from the right or centre. (registration point is at the left) I do this by scaling it then using some trig move its _x, _y coordinates depending on it's _rotation. Unfortunately, this is producing some very small roundoff error that propogates slowly but surely, upwards of 1 to 10 or more pixels. As it's a pseudo-ACAD application I can't really have that. I also tried using the localToGlobal and globalToLocal functions with the same results.
However, if I don't need the _x,_y transformations (the registration point is in the correct spot for the particular scale) then the round off error no longer applies.So yeah, I looked around a bit but couldn't find anything for doing this in ActionScript. (mostly tutorials on how to move the registration point by converting to a symbol or free transform tool)

For those of you still with me, I am tasked with making some scrollable content in Flash. Load in a TextFile using LoadURL(), then display it. To get the text, we've written our own class TextFieldExtended, which is basically just there to give the textfile location to the constructor and then have the class do the various steps of getting it and loading it for you.So I needed to get a Scrollbar, which I got hereThe thing is, it works with Sprites.After trying to get it to accept TextFieldExtended, I bumped into a block, since the scrollbar relied heavily on a Sprite property that TextFieldExtended didn't have or could have.
So I tried adding the TextFieldExtended instance to a Sprite instance using addchild.A problem occurs here that I do not know how to handle. It seems that a Rectangle is drawn and the Text is drawn on that. I say this because the scrollbar moves the Rectangle up and down a bit, but the text doesn't scroll, just the Rectangle it is positioned in and the text then moves along with it.My question: can this be fixed, or is does this implementation of scrollbars need a lot of adaptations before this is possible?

I have a movie clip on my stage with various elements in it. When I edit this movie clip all the coordinates for the various elements have really random values because the registration point is not set to the top left corner of the symbol but I can't find any way to change the registration point - nothing I've found online so far works.

I want to load a series .jpgs into an existing mcs. The mcs are 75 x 75 pix and the .jpgs are 50 x 50 pix. The problem is that I made the mcs with the registration point at the top left corner. This causes the mcs to load in at that point so that the margine between the .jpg and the mc is uneven. How can I change the registration point of each mc so that the CENTER of the .jpg is positioned the CENTER of the mc?

I'm importing an image that I'll use as my pointer(arrow) in a speedometer. My problem is that I need to manually set the movieClip's registration point so that I'll get the rotation right. If I manually drag the image on stage and use F8 to convert it to a MovieClip, I can set the registration point in the dialog box popping up. The only thing I'm trying to do is just that, but with ActionScript since I create this thingie dynamically

I've got quite a few images that are being loaded into my project through the MovieClipLoader function, anyway, when they are loaded to a specific MovieClip, their registration point is set to the top left corner (0, 0).Is there any way of adjusting the registration point for this MovieClip? Or would I have to something like the following:
Code:
var pL:MovieClipLoader = new MovieClipLoader();
// loader[code]......
I don't know if the above is even possible, but thats what I'd guess, if there is no way of setting the registration point in a easier way. I feel that the above is such a waste.

Is there a neat minimal way of doing this? (this produces an error):
var freeSpace = shape.freeSpace() // returns Rectangle
var s:Sprite = new Sprite();
s.graphics.drawRect(freeSpace);
Just looking for a more cleaner way other than something like .drawRect(freeSpace.x, freeSpace.y, freeSpace.w, freeSpace.h) I know you can do it with bitmapData.fillRect(rectangle), but need sprites in this case.
