I have a textArea. It has a UIScrollbar. I want to be able to reference that scrollbar. I heard there's an update() function, and that may be able to save me from the inexplicable things this damnable UIScrollbar is doing on its own.

View 7 RepliesI'm using Flash CS4. Everything functions as it should when CS4 previews the swf after compiling it. However, after embedding the flash item in a webpage, if the textArea loses focus within the flash piece, the textarea's built-in UIscrollbar resets to the very top. Here's the kicker: if I add a FOCUS_OUT event listener to the textArea to store the current scrollbar value, I find that the scrollbar value has been reset to minimum even before the FOCUS_OUT event is triggered! WTF? I think this is occurring because the textArea's htmlText propery is dynamically populated. Adobe AIR has advanced methods for handing HTML, but not simple AS3, oh no. How obnoxious. What can be done?

I have a Android Air application, where I import a png image to the stage on frame two and converted it to a symbol as a movieclip. I am performing a hovering animation using this image as a movieclip and it works great but when I go from frame 2, where the animation is, and I move to frame 3, 4, 5, or 6, and then I move back to frame 2, my application throws a errors when referencing the movieclip again. The error is 1009 cannot access null object reference. So to me it seems that once the timeline moves away from frame 2 it wipes away the reference to the imported image converted to a movieclip....is this correct? Is there a way I can keep the timeline referencing the this image as a movieclip so I can always come back to this frame?
View 1 RepliesI have a number of very poor-quality pdf documents that look like 80's photocopies, which I'm rebuilding in Flash (Flex Builder 3 MXML application), representing paragraphs of text in TextAreas so that selected portions can be bold or italic, or whatever I need. I need a way to apply toolTips or event listeners to individual words within the block of text to link those words to a glossary. I'm perfectly happy to create a definition panel that is populated and made visible with a mouseOver, but don't know how to do it to just a portion of the text.

How can I access the name of each DataTable from Flex? When debugging, it's clear that each DataTable's name gets mapped to a property on the event.result.Tables object, but I don't see a programmatic way to get a string representation of the name.
i'm generating a few movieclip functions from an array that relate to an mc that's on the stage. However, in the mc.onRelease function, i can't seem to get the _root.filename = *** .txt to match the name of said mc instance. Instead i get a really long location for the mc on the stage Any ideas how i can get round this?

I have built a flash video player where-in the player is sending some data to the back-end at periodic intervals. Now I have been asked to send the actual amount of time the video was played. I cannot send netstream.time value in this case.Because the user may watch a video for first 5 mins and then seek to the say 30th minute and then close the video. So here the netstream.time value is 30 minutes whereas the actual playtime of the video is just over around 5 mins. I am not sure if the Flash media server maintains this actual playtime of a video. If it does how can I access this? And if it doesn't whats the best way to get the actual play-time?

Unfortunately, when I start placing text in this text area. Either through code or user input, the text will be placed on a new line after about 80-100 pixels. Yet I want it to start a new line after 320 pixels (it's length).

Thing is, I have a very simple clock that displays the time in New Zealand (where I will be going), but it only display the time correctly for GMT+1 right now. If a client from New Zealand or US connects, they will see the wrong time :/

If anyone wants to view p tags problem try following. Just click on text and then move your down arrow key, cursor will go to next line.

I have a dynamic text field that I create and populate with code, and a UIScrollBar that goes along with it.works correctly, the scroll-bar appears no problem.The issue comes in when I load the SWF into another project.I have a SWF interface that loads other pages (SWF, FLV, etc) When the SWF with the scrollbar is loaded into the interface, the scrollbar does not display at all.Here is the code for the scrollbar SWF, if:

View 1 RepliesIt seems the simplest way is to use the UIScrollBar, but it will not work in my Flash file.I create the dynamic text box and drop the UIScrollBar on it from the components panel, the scroll bar attaches but only shows up as a white rectangle with no arrows. When I test it it stays the same. I don't think it's just the color because when I hover over or click where arrows should be nothing happens, the text will not scroll. I can click and highlight the text to make it scroll, so I know the additional text that isn't showing up is there, I just can't scroll down to see it.The weird thing is in another flash website I have the UIScrollBar does work. I can drag the problem one from the first file into the second and suddenly the arrows appear. I even tried creating a new text box with the UIScrollBar in the working file then dragging it over to the problem one, but the arrows disappear and the bar turns into a white rectangle again.

(with flash player 9) it is not visible. If I view it in the standalone flash player it is fine.
The component itself works perfectly. I can create a scrollbox and the scrollbar and everything works perfectly..except that it somehow partially disables my other codes. I'm trying to create a small database in flash where I can store stuff and to quickly find what I'm looking for I made a Input Text field and added a code so that you could search for a keyframe label and then it would jump to that keyframe.The scrollbox disables the search function, although only partially! The button with the search code looks like this:[code]which means the scrollbar component somehow disables the Enter button! Weird. I know I should be content with at least the clicking working, but I'd really love to have a search where you can just simply press Enter for it to go to that keyframe.
Well, the problem didn't end there.When I try to delete the scrollbar and everything that made the search stop working, the enter button still won't work, even when I deleted all the faulty keyframes where I added the scrollbars! So I have to begin again from scratch to make it work.A scrollbox would really help me get more text into a keyframe, so I'd love to have it there. If someone can help me get this work, I'd be happy.I tried creating my own scrollbar. It works great, too, and it doesn't disable the search code. I have a website I created in Flash (CS4 AS2), and on one page, I have a UIScrollBar component. It is linked to a text box, which loads text from an external .txt file. The page has a short pre-loader that plays while the page is loading; the page is not supposed to be shown until it's 100% loaded.
My problem is that when the page loads, the text is there, and there is a box where the scroll bar should go, but no scroll bar. The mouse wheel makes the page scroll as it should, but the bar itself is not visible or functional. If I navagate away and then return to the page, or reload the page, the bar displays as it should.
I want to add a horizontal scrollbar to a textfield that shows the text in HTML format.When I try that in other documents without scrollbar I get it to work.In the code bellow, which I mainly took from the Actionscript Reference, the code works when I use text (like in the Actionscript Reference).But when I change it to htmlText to get it HTML formatted (and get rid of the HTML codes) the textField doen't show anything.

i have done a project and i found out that i could'nt see the top part of my project as it is too long. So i was thinking of using UIScrollBar to enable me to scroll to the top. But the problem is how do i use UIScrollBar?
