I basically want the food sprite to spin slowly about its center, not its x and y value which is the top left corner of the sprite. How can I make the anchor the center of the sprite?
I've been playing around with Flash's native 3D in pure AS3 (in FlashDevelop, not the Flash IDE) and am having a heck of a time finding documentation on how to set the 3D "anchor point". (Perhaps it goes by a different name?)
Can anyone tell me the API, Class, or command(s) needed to move the anchor for a given Sprite or Stage?
i'm a novice to ActionScript but from failed Google function searches, i think i've choosen an advanced i hope possible task: how to read then apply bezier, anchor point and handle positions to different anchor points. What i need to do is precisely align a rectangular closed bezier path with a randomly shaped closed bezier path, both with the same number of anchor points.
Is there a better way to have a symbol's anchor point default to the size of the stage? I'm having Huge problems because if two symbols are different sizes then I can't tell two objects to be in the same location.The workaround seems terrible. I have a guide layer for stage bounds. I'd have to duplicate that, add that to the objects that I'm going to want to convert to a symbol first, then remove it after it's converted. Is there anyway to automate any of that? That just seems like a terrible task to repeat over and over. I suppose one option is to have a blank symbol that is the correct size already, duplicate that in the library, rename it, put that on the stage, then put your objects in there. Wow, I'm not sure if that's better or worse!
Flash knows where the anchor point is in 3D space in order for the symbol to rotate around it, but I can't seem to figure out how to see the coordinates of the anchor point or type in new ones. Please tell me how to do this. I am already very annoyed that Lynda, a pay service, doesn't think this is vital information. Apparently they think we would never want to do anything more visually stimulating than one simple spinning logo! But I digress...
Just to be clear, I know how to move the anchor point visually on the stage, but I want accuracy. I want to be able to give two symbols the exact same coordinates to rotate around.
I have a dynamic image loading into a movie clip and i dynamically created a transform box around it. However the anchor point of that transform box is coming on the left top instead of in the center, which is not letting the image transform properly. how to dynamically put the anchor point to center through AS2?
The following is a link to an online floor planner:[URL]..Does anyone know how to achieve the anchor point function? If you click on a "wall" it adds an anchor point.
I'm trying to Resize a panel using a Resize Effect using its center as the anchor point. I've been googling for some information and the only thing I have found is to set the horizontalCenter and verticalCenter to 0, but this is not working for me. The panel keeps resizing from top/left corner.
See how the URL is changing depending on how you are going inside the website sections? This is actually great because you can use the <BACK button of the browser in a flash app.
How can this, URL thing, be done? I hope the technique does not involve creating 8 different SWFs for the 8 sections of a site because that will not be actually a trick... It's defenitely something else looking at that "#" thing.
The website I am designing is a single-page site which scrolls using jquery to anchor points on the page (instead of having separate html pages for each section) The intro section has a flash banner which alternates images of different sections of the site. I have used the following code to get these images to link to the relevant page section

I'm importing an external image, but by default the anchor point (coordinates 0,0) for the movieclip it loads into is the top left,this is obviously an issue if I want to rotate, as I need coordinates (0,0) to be the centre of the image, not the top left?
I need to make the "rcheck2_txt" rotate 180. With this script it does what I need. But currently the centre point is in the top-left corner of the dynamic text box. How do i change the X Y cordinates so the centre point is in the middle of the dynamic text box?
I need tp set the y coordinate on a sprite's rightmost coordinate. That is, usually when we set the y coordinate that's the lefttmost side of the sprite, and the sprite starts there and goes to the right of that point. I need to reverse that. The reason is because I'm putting text into it and it's going to the rightmost side of a box, so it can't overflow to the right.
So i have this sprite that is say arbitrarily 100 x 100 which is added to the stage. Now when content is added to this sprite the sprite expands automatically as it should. I dont want this to happen, what i want is to set a defined boundary i.e. 100 x 100, if too much content is added i can be able to scroll it. My problem is i cannot add a mask to the stage like the conventional way because i have many other boxes like this that vary in dimensions and number. I found a way i can do this but its very inefficient, what i did is i created a movieclip filled it say 100x100 with some color then instantiated it. Next i added the sprite and if content overlaps it wont be visible, only 100x100. I sort of stumbled on this and dont know exactly why this works. Any help is well appreciated, thank you.
I am having trouble setting the instance name of my Sprites that get created through a for loop. What I am doing is loading an external gif into a 16 Sprites that gets created in a foor loop...but it seems like it ignores my box.name parameter setter.
How can I know if a point is contained inside of an Sprite in Flex?
For example: // My example point var A:Point = new Point(5,5); // My example sprite var s:Sprite = new Sprite(); s.graphics.lineStyle(1,0x000000,1); s.graphics.moveTo(0,0); s.graphics.lineTo(100,100);
The point A belong to sprite s because its position is inside of it. Is there any function to know it? I want to do it for all kind of sprites, so use math formulas to calculate linear or quadratic equations (line, circle, rectangle, etc) is not valid for me.
I searched online and found this script that is supposed to rotate and image but I'm not sure how to use, where to put in the degree angle that I want my sprites to rotate by. Also, I get an error. 1084: Syntax error: expecting identifier before leftparen. 1084: Syntax error: expecting rightparen before leftbrace.
var point:Point=new Point(spr_box.x+spr_box.width/2, spr_box.y+spr_box.height/2); rotateAroundCenter(spr_box,45); function rotateAroundCenter (ob:*, angleDegrees) {
I'm attempting to write a racing game. I've loaded in my image, I brought it to the stage and now, all I want to do is rotate it from its' center and not upper left corner.
The code:
racer.rotation += 5;
rotates from the upper left corner. How do I rotate from the center of the car/sprite? I've tried putting it into a container but I'm unsure on the coordinates of the container because I tried to set the x,y coordinates to half the sprite image but y'know, it's not doing what I expect it to.
ActionScript Code: if (arrowLeft) { var container:Sprite = new Sprite();
[Code]....
I will never sneer at another racing game! I didn't think it would be this hard to do a simple rotate of an image!
I once needed to pan a sprite full of movieClips (picture 1) which were draggable with no bounds so you could drag them up and left (higher than sprites registration point).
You could also drag them down and right and expand a sprite that way (as well) but that didnt matter.What did matter was how much is 'up' and 'left' from the sprite registration point so i can include that in my formula for panning.
This was easy to find, i just sorted my array of movieClips, sorted on x and sorted on y after each drag, and thats how i got my up and left points.
Now I am trying to do that same thing, exept my movieclips inside a sprite have a custom rotation (picture 2), so i also have an up and left point, except this time up and left are caused by rotations of movieClips inside a sprite... (and these are dragable as well with no bounds)
How do you change the registration point of a TextField or MovieClip?Suppose you want to Twin a zoom in, I need it to happen from the middle, but I found no methods or properties that let you set it in the center.
i'm working on a flash game at the moment, and i would like to know if i am able to set the point that the movieclip rotates around using actionscript.
i don't want to do it by simply moving all of the contents of the movieclip closer or nearer. is there any other way of doing it? i couldn't find any simple functions for it. am i just going to have to use some complicated maths?
[edit] rotation point, aka, registration point.[/edit]
I know this might seem like such an easy issue and I can't understand why I cant figure it out but none the less I can't and I've just about given up. Here's the issue:
I have a sprite container which is supposed to hold a bunch of thumbnails to videos. I am able to populate the container with all the videos and the whole works but obviously if I add a bunch of videos its going to exceed the size of the flash document so I need to add a UIScrollBar (which I did) now the scrollbars target is set to the container but isnt allowing me to scroll and if im correct this is because the container doesnt have a set height. So Im trying to set the height of this container but the second I try setting the height or even width all my thumbnails I used to be able to see are gone! It's as if the size is being set to 0 when its not I've even tried to set it to a specified size just to test and nothing.
I've a slider class (SliderUI) and I'm passing slider and track images to that class as sprites.
What I'm trying to do is, passing one more image as sprite and changing its width for doing masking in slider. (It will expand or collapse as you move volume slider)
When I try to change width of sprite, it doesn't show up and I guess sprite is just container and resizing it makes it disappeared.
So how can I resize sprite with its child image (it's loaded by a Loader object by the way)?
I am making application which will dynamically create sprites via action script and copy the sprite's image to a bitmapdata object via .draw() function. I would like to store the location of the sprite's transformation point and insertion origin (which would be set within the flash editor when the sprite is created/imported.) Is there a way to access the location of the transformation point and the insertion origin via ActionScript? I just want to read it, I do not need to change it.
I've looked over many forums and pages to sadly learn that you can not reset/change the registration point of a movieclip dynamically. Though I am curious if or how I could go about assigning the registration point to a sprite instance I create at runtime. To give you a more concrete example of what I'm doing:
I create an instance contentWindow in my code to be animated (a 300px by 200px rect with registration in the top left corner)I create a Sprite instance imageHolder in my code and add it as a child to contentWindow I then add various images to imageHolder through a Loader object referencing an XML file. imageHolder's top left corner is oriented to contentWindow's registration point. (Leaving me with an oddly oriented imageHolder if the contentWindow's registration is centered, and will only re-size from that origin) Since imageHolder will be switching out various sized images it would be much more aesthetic to have the sprite's registration point centered. So since as3 defaults it to top left shouldn't there be a way to alter it at instantiation of the sprite? Then I could set my contentWindow's registration to center and the empty sprite would center all content loaded into it?
