Actionscript 3 :: Start Position Of IndexOf Search?
Nov 30, 2010
I'm using the indexOf method to search for a substring in a String variable in Actionscript 3. The indexOf method allows you to specify a second, optional parameter - the starting position for the search. However, I'm not sure whether the position returned by indexOf is relative to the very beginning of the string, or to this optional parameter.
I have a grid of letters. I want to create the else aspect, where if you don't drop the letter on any square, it'll return to its original position. Issue is I don't declare it's original position, i simply use placement on stage.
- how can I start the player from the position "pause" (so without playing a song when I open the flash) (and so with the button in position "play")
- I would like to add the button "previous track".. what code I need to create into the "mp3player.as"? (I think the button is the same of next but with "negative image" and with different names..)
- for a button like "stop" what I have to do? (a button with a simple action like: stop(); or stopAllSounds(); ?) (I've tried but without success...)
I'm trying to make a movie clip play when the mouse is in a certain position on the screen without using invisible buttons, coding this myself so far I've got
I'm trying to make a movieclip rotate around it's center (this is no problem since the center will never change). The problem that I am having is when I press the movieclip, in let's say the bottomright corner, and move the mouse the movieclip flips to a certain angle depending on my mouseposition. After the weird flip it works fine but it's the initial mouse click that makes the movieclip flip to an angle.I've tried playing around with different values to substract or add the starting angle but eveytime the result is not what i am looking for.Current code:
I have this script, that zooms and fades the movieclip but I also need to shift the position slightly from the start state to the end state. For example var startX = 60 var endX = 70 so when the zoom start it starts at x = 60 and slowly moves as it zooms out to x = 70.
I'm trying to make a movie clip play when the mouse is in a certain position on the screen without using invisible buttons, coding this myself so far I've got _root.top = 319 _root.bottom = 445 yval = _root._ymouse; if (_root._ymouse > _root.top) { _root.flowers.play(); } else { _root.flowers.stop(); } Doesn't seem to work right.
i need to find a way to pause and start again from that same position the 'infinite menu' found here on kirupa URL...A friend of mine attempted to help me, and gave me some code to fiddle with. I did fiddle with it, but problem was, the code was for Flash MX 2004. So it didnt work on my MX. Here is the existing code i have, but doesn't function (i.e. works fine when control>Test Movie, but doesnt work when actual .swf from folder is opened)[code]
I have one movie clip that when clicked on moves to the left of the screen, after it gets there I want another and exteral swf to load. But I dont know how to get the external clip to load after the movie clip gets to the left side of the screen....Here is what I got so far..
I've got a problem with an if/else statement within a function which checks to see which 'drop area' one of ten items should to snap to.. the problem is I can only set the start location of each item to work on the first hitTest, otherwise after clicking another item or positioning any item in one of the drop areas, the drop area becomes it's start location due to startDrag() and stopDrag() been called again to move the object..
What I've tried to do here is to create a variable (which does trace the correct (currentTargetHome) movieclip reference, but as a string) but it doesn't work when I try to access it's attributes using [currentTargetHome]. The item exists within the movieclip "gamePage" and the rest of the function works !
I just followed this tutorial and I did get how it all worked.. and i got my movie clip flying arround the stage. Then when i tried to apply it to a little project i'm working on, i couldn't get it working. I have a movie clip called mc_main and when i click a button I want it to move - using easing - to a new position on the stage. In the first frame of my timeline i have put this AS:
I'm trying to have a movie clip with 4 buttons that moves to the four corners of the stage.Depending on which button is clicked, the movie clip goes to that corner.he trouble I'm running into is determining the variable start points. If the end goal is the lower right corner, it needs to be able to move there from the upper left, the lower left and the upper right. So I need to set the starting position as a variable I assume, but can't get it working.
I've just tried senocular's xml tutorials. [URL] The search query seems case sensitive. How to make it accept upper and lower case characters. Actually i'm trying to make a search by myself by using the same code.
When trying to do indexOf on a "static" array, it works, doing the same thing on an array populated with xml, i always get the result = -1Static Way
var myarray:Array = new Array("Pub Pepsi","Shadow E-Bike","Icon Air Craft","Test","La page 4","La page 5","La page 6","La page 7"); var myresult:* = myarray.indexOf("Icon Air Craft");
I am trying to create a search field in AS3 to search keywords in a dynamic text field of the same flash movie, where the text is loaded from an XML file.
I can't get it two work. If I replace mySide with a hard coded movieclip name it works, but not with the variable. Am I missing something or just barking up the wrong tree?
var dots:Array = [north_mc.dot1, north_mc.dot2, east_mc.dot1, east_mc.dot2, west_mc.dot1, west_mc.dot2, south_mc.dot1, south_mc.dot2,]; var mySide:String = event.currentTarget.parent.name + "." + event.currentTarget.name;
In ActionScript3 i wanted to get the text between 2 quotes from some HTML using a input index value where i would simply increase the 2nd quote characters value by 1. This would be very simple however i have now noticed using indexOf does not seem to work correctly with quotes and other special characters.[code]...
I have a list object and I'm adding items to it with addItem through the dataProvider. Before adding an item to the list I want to make sure it's not a duplicate. I've tried using indexOf on the dataProvider and it returns null. I've tried casting it to an array and it works, but always returns -1 even if the element exists in the dataProvider. The only method I've been able to use seems a little hacky and I'd like to know if there is a better way to find an element in a dataProvider.
I've put together this simple code for an SWF with three roll over images (called: Training, Resources and Contact). When I roll over Training I would like the symbol Training_txt to tween its alpha to 1 (from 0) and tween its y axis to 220 (from 83).When I roll out of Training I would like to run the two tweens in reverse.
This works fine for each of the three roll over images, so long as each tween is allowed to fully execute before a new tween is started. The problem arises if i quickly move the mouse curser between the three roll over images before the previous tweens have finished executing. In this instance, the tweened objects start to behave erratically. They usually return to their original position as per the roll_out tween but then start jumping between y axis 200 and y axis 83 (without tweening - they just appear).
I need some help with validating a phone number. I want to check if the length of the number is ten chars and if the first number is a "0" and the second number a "6".[code]This only checks if there is a "0" and a "6", but not if they are the first and second char in the string.
I have a XML searcher thingy made and for the results in it I want to only display, lets say 50 characters to either side of the word that is searched. I am reading from a XML file and I am using indexOf to ge the current location of the word.
I've started a project a while ago, so far it is almost done but there is something that I seem not to be able to do alone... I would like to add a search function which I don't know how to do.It will not be a normal search function so I am going to try to beak it down with an easy example:
Let's say I did a project that is embeded somewhere in a normal html page with a main menu from where you can get to different city maps (e.g. New York, Paris, Berlin). The maps are seperate swfs. On all those maps there are several buttons for historical sites (or whatever) with a mousover function and a link to a page with more information about that specific site (on html).the names of the buttons are always a letter and a number (New York: "N1","N2","N3"...; Paris: "P1","P2","P2"... instance name for P1 is p1_btn)
What I need now is a search field in the main menu where you can search for those buttons. Meaning if I type in "N2" and hit search it will take me to the New York swf and show me button "N2".
I know this might not make much sense like this but the actual version is quite different and more complicated context-wise. Therefore if possible I would like to leave it that way with the main menu, the linked swfs and the buttons.
I've got a catalog of events in XML that is read into my Flash swf. I'm trying to develop a search box that will search through the titles, descriptions, presenters, etc. and return a list of related events.
Does anybody know a prebuilt AS2 system that does this? Or a good tutorial on how to go about this? I have googled, but haven't found much.
Here is my approach so far. When I load in the XML I create an array of the frequency of all the words in the nodes that I'm interested in. I figured it would be useful to do this once instead of each time a search is performed. I store that word index in another array with an index that will take me back to the original node. I was trying to figure out if there was someway to put it all into one index, but then I'm not sure how I'd link back to the original nodes.
When performing a search I look through the array of word indexs and check for the word and return another array of which original nodes contain the word.
If the search term isn't represented I generate all the permutations of the word that have an edit distance of 1 -- i.e. that have a letter changed, added, or deleted in any position. So for example if the search is for "the" the list of 1-edit would be ahe, bhe, ... tae, tbe,... tha, thb...athe, bthe,...tahe,tbhe, ....... he, te, th. If any of those are found it returns the results and puts up a "Did you mean xxxxx?" type of notice.
So far all of this is working rather well.
I'm still working on figuring out what to do if the user puts two words into the search box.
Also haven't figured out what to do with plurals and other "stem" type situations.
I want to make this pretty simple and easy for people to get the results they want.
Its mostly the way google is set up that makes it so easy. I just happened to notice that the url for a google search is always the same except for the search variables at the end. http:[url]....So all I did was to add a textfield to get the variable to put on the end of the URL. (And a button to press)
