Feb 22, 2011I've been trying to figure out how to display the descendants (in this case exchangeRate and PlacesOfInterest) of a parent node with a specific attribute.To set the scene - the user clicks on a button which sets a string variable to a destination eg. japan or australia.The code then runs through a set of nodes in the XML and any that have a matching attribute is traced - simple enoughWhat I can't figure out is how to then display only the child nodes of the node with that attribute.I'm sure there has to be a way of doing it and I'll probably be banging my head against the desk when I find it

Aug 19, 2009It's been a about seven years since I have done any work with Flash but now my employer is asking me to create a custom online magazine tool (we're publishers). I've been immersed in PHP and AJAX and building Mac apps with XCode so I've got a bit of a relearning curve to go through.
Anyway, I'm pulling in some XML into a Flash file and want to display some of the various node values in a dynamic text box. That was easy enough, AS3 makes it a charm compared to the dark old days. The problem I am running into is displaying the values - its kind of a runsheet for a magazine - num of pages, ads, features, etc. etc. and I want to display that in one text box in a list type format. So I have something like this:

Jan 14, 2010I have an AdvancedDataGrid tree with a ArrayCollection as its dataprovider. Now, for instance, i drag a leaf from one node to another node. To catch the event I'm adding a Listener to dragComplete.

My Problem: I want to know the new node where the leaf was dropped. Actually i would have expected that in the event there is a property like dropParent. This is not the case.

May 26, 2005I thought this was going to be easy! I would like to search an XML file for a particular data set i.e. set of nodes depending on a passed variable. However, storing a subset of my XML file via Code:var gallery = this.firstChild; and then searching 'gallery' as you would an array-using a for()-doesn't work since this.firstChild isn't returning an array

Oct 8, 2009When using Loader class to load display objects (bitmaps, SWFs...) from remote URLs, is there any way for them to be instantiated (referenced as we know, by Loader::content property) as some user specified valid subclass? For example if I had a class that extended a Bitmap, is there any way for the loaded object to be of this class?

The reason i ask is my current project has a rotating + enlarging effect which is largely dynamic so sometimes an object may clip the edge of the stage areathis looks messy but i dont want to increase the stage area to cover the largest possible area any object could enter because most of the time the objects are at the center and small so i would end up with a lot of white space
Flash - Sorting Display Objects By Their Display List Depth
Aug 5, 2011I have a list containing display objects from throughout the application (insertion order). I want to process the list either top-down (parent, child) or bottom up (child, parent). The only requirement is that either a parent is processed before any child or vice versa a child before its parent. What is a good approach? This question is not about sorting a list. It's about retrieving the depth of a particular display object.
Example
Display list:
A (root)
B1
C1
C2
D1
B2
......
My list:
list = [E1, F4, A, B2, B1, C3, ..., N9, N8]
Bottom-up:
N9, N8, F4, E1, C3, B2, B1, A
Top-down:
A, B2, B1, C3, E1, F4, N9, N8
Does not matter if N9 before N8 or N8 before N9. Important is that any N is before M (first run) or any M before its children N* (second run).

Aug 19, 2008I have a datagrid called dg that has data populated to it thru an external XML. What I am trying to achieve is whenever someone clicks on an item in the grid it stores that items coordinates to a variable called locCoordinates. At this moment it is tracing out the coordinates for all of the items in the grid. I just dont know how to go about only getting the selected items coordinates.

I want to get the last crazyNode (the one which contains Actual data).I know how to access the first node, for example:
nodeList.crazyNode[0]
And I guess a solution would be
nodeList.crazyNode[nodeList.crazyNode.length() - 1]
But for some reason I don't like doing that, too verbose and maybe there's a method more elegant.

Mar 11, 2011I'm using XML to populate a comboBox Component. How do I get the aactionscript to trace which number in the array the choice is? So for example is my choices are:
choice A
choice B
choice C
on the dropdown box, whne I click "choice A" I want it to trace "0" because that's it's place in the XML, or if I click "choice C" it will say 2".If i use "length" it will tell me how many. I need to know what to use that tells me which one.
