ActionScript 3.0 :: Rendering HTML - Display Some Of The Various Node Values In A Dynamic Text Box

It's been a about seven years since I have done any work with Flash but now my employer is asking me to create a custom online magazine tool (we're publishers). I've been immersed in PHP and AJAX and building Mac apps with XCode so I've got a bit of a relearning curve to go through.
Anyway, I'm pulling in some XML into a Flash file and want to display some of the various node values in a dynamic text box. That was easy enough, AS3 makes it a charm compared to the dark old days. The problem I am running into is displaying the values - its kind of a runsheet for a magazine - num of pages, ads, features, etc. etc. and I want to display that in one text box in a list type format. So I have something like this:

Kirupa's tutprial "Using XML in Flash CS3/AS3" when filtering the node values, how can I match a text string say "Stephen" with "Stephen E. Ambrose"
var authorList:XMLList = bookInput.Book.(author == "Stephen E. Ambrose");
Using the above code it only searches the node which author value is "Stephen E. Ambrose" but I want to search only "Stephen" and want to get this node returned.

i'm trying to load a .txt file and render it as html file. pressed the button, but it wont load my text as an html file...reads everything!
my error is probably in the actions frame.

I have two separate projects I am working on, very basic, and the Input Text Box on one is only returning the value in HTML format... I cannot figure out for the life of me why.
The Input Text Box on the Stage has a variable assigned to it. I then have a button that checks the users input... the problem is, the input is being converted to HTML so the check is always failing. When I trace the variable it returns the following result[code]...

1) If I don't embed any font outlines for that text field, the text field displays the string correctly (with the html right formatting) since my system has Arial installed.

In a nutshell, I'm trying to create a dynamic text box in which text show up for one XML node but not for another, so I have some XML nodes that have info in them and others that don't. This seems like it would be a realatively easy thing to do, but I've been working on figuring out how to do so for days with no avail. I'm trying in vain to store and retrieve HTML formatted text in a XML node.I know it has to be held in CDATA brackets, otherwise the XML is invalid, but... this means that Flash doesn't parse the data as HTML, rather it just displays it as the raw text.

I have created a textArea element but cannot display my HTML content. If I just display regular text it works or if I change the textArea element to a RichEditableText element it works fine. Since this is for a mobile app I would prefer to use the textArea element as recommended by Adobe.Here is the MXML code for the textArea. All I get is the border and no content displayed.

I would like to ask when swf object rendering at the html page? Is it rendered only it's visible? If swf at the page bottom that is not visible, will swf be rendered when I scroll down? The problem is that swf object raises some events when it's rendered and I would like to force rendering even if swf object is not visible.

I want to be able to add the sum of 3 input text boxes and have the total be displayed in another text box. figure I set a variable and do something along the lines of: Number = "_root.input1 + _root.input2 + _root.input3";Or do I have to do this another way?Also where should I put the code? In a button? Or can I stick it in the frame to save complications of users clicking on a button.

I have a text field component that I am dynamically populating with text. The words appear one letter at a time in a teleprinter style fashion. I also have rendered certain words with HTML to make style changes within the text.Now all this works fine, except because the HTML text is larger than the body of the other text, I am losing theteleprintereffect at the bottom of the text field. In other words, after a set amount has been printed, users are not seeing the letters printed out one at a time, but instead just get a printed line of text appear from beneath the visible section of the text window.

I did not have any problems on CS4 but I encountered this error below when I used CS5. Fonts should be embedded for any text that may be edited at runtime, other than text with the "Use Device Fonts" setting. Use the Text > Font Embedding command to embed fonts. Now that the line of error is cleared. However, I am still having problems with my dynamic text fields which worked with correct values in CS4 but gave the incorrect values in CS5.

I have a movie that contains a series of radio button groups, which each have their own accompanying dyn text box. When a certain radio button is selected, a pre-determined value is loaded into each respective groups' text box, via "onRelease".
Now, I can get these values to appear fine in each text box, but I then have a fourth text box (amount_total), into which I want to have the sum of all the previous text box's values.
I have a submit button with the following actions on the first frame of the timeline:
onSubmit = function (){
_root.amount_total = Number(_root.total_surf) + Number(_root.total_music) + Number(_root.total_video);
}
Now, when I hit the submit button NaN is returned.

I'm not a programmer but have been using Flash for awhile. This is my first heavy dive into variables.I'm putting together a Quiz game where I pull the information from a txt file. I can get everything to display and work fine except for the adding of a total score.I have a series of values in a text file and load it into my movie. Depending upon what button I push, I want to take the value and add it to the total score. The next button I push I want it to add that value to the new total score.

I am popultating a dynamic text box with values from a database.I need/want the location of the text box to be at a random position on the stage, so I have been using:[code]I see that the htmlText is getting set, and with what looks like good html, and I see that text gets set with the non html part from the htmlText.Is it not possiable to calculate the width of the text when html is set to "true"?
