I'm trying to set focus on a specific button when the app launches (or later based on certain events), so that the user can simply hit return to press the button. None of the following approaches work however.

when i have this line active(the red one) it gives me automatic focus, so no clicking to be able to detect key input so i got that going for me which is nice BUT when i have it active(not commented out) i get this big yellow line which goes away when i click it(seeBelow)
I'm trying to create a fairly simple interface where the user can theoretically move up and down four vertical menu buttons with the cursor keys, selecting the option they prefer with the enter key. Obviously this requires focusing on a different button every time they move up or down, but I'm damned if I can figure out how to do this
View 1 RepliesMy button doesn't have a blue focus ring around it, even though it has focus. I've got a component with a RadioButtonGroup and a Button. After a selection is made in the RadioButtonGroup, focus is switched to the Button. I added click="focusManager.setFocus(myCloseButton)" on the VBox.
After, a radioButton is selected, if the user clicks the spacebar the Button fires. So, as I understand it focus was switched to the button. But, the button doesn't get a blue focus ring surrounding it. How do I get the focus ring? I have visible="false". I turn them to visible, after some effects are finished. So, don't let that throw you.)

The behavior I'm trying to prevent is after a user clicks on a button, the button retains focus, and then if the user hits the space key, the button fires again. So I thought it could be solved either by setting the focus elsewhere, or by having the button ignore the space key. I've tried adding the following keyDown event listener on the button, but it didn't work.

I tried changing focus by doing the following, at the end of the function that's called when the button is clicked:

View 2 RepliesI have a series of editable text areas in which I want to be able to add a variable on the click of a button.
If I click the button the textarea loses focus and so I cant code which textarea I need to add the variable into. Can anyone think of a way of keeping focus on the textbox, inserting the variable and then allowing the user to carry on typing.
I've been playing around with the setFocus function trying to get this to work with no success.

I have a background Nav area, that on rolling over, I want to come more clearly into focus. This is done by lightening & changing the colour on rolling over, where the background nav area is actually 2 identical boxes, and only the top one shows and lightens and de-blurs on rolling over.
The problem is, I have buttons (of course!) over this whole thing, and when someone hovers over the button...it makes the original code of the nav background think it no longer is rolled over, and goes to the onRollOut() function. It also seems to be killing my performance, so I might be doing something totally wrong.
What I would like is essentially a focus control - you are over the nav background and it lights up the way I want, but the buttons over it (both the nav and the buttons are on the main timeline - the buttons in a layer above the nav) still work normally and it stays lighted up...here is my code if I am doing something obvious, though I have only made a couple of posts so I will not blame anyone for not having a go at it...Shawn

I have a game where you can move a character around on a screen, very simple. My problem is, I have to click on the swf object in my browser before it starts to recognize my input keys. If there a way to set set to my swf object either in html or the swf itself /w as3?

When I publish a Flash CS4 Pro / AS3 game to an SWF file and uploads it to my webserver, I have to click the screen before I can use keyboard events.
Is there a way to force a focus onto the "swf stage" when loading the file in the browser, or do I have to publish an html file that controls the swf file to do that?[url]...

In IE, onkeydown events are not detected in JavaScript if a SWF has focus but Firefox always detects onkeydown.
Upon entering the screen, I set the focus to the first field, a combobox, and after making a selection I want to tab to the next field, a textfield, but I can't tab out of the combobox. I can use the mouse to click on the textfield and give it focus but I'd rather tab. I also tried to programatically give focus to the textfield (from the function associated with the combox's listener) without success.

I using the 3D Carousel from flashcomponents.net and I need to figure out how to get the images blur when they are not the front focal on the Carousel. I tried an onRelease (which works to un-blur it), but I didn't know what else to pair it with so when I click on another object it blurs and goes to the back. I don't want it to blur when I roll off, only when another object is clicked.

View 9 Repliesi am using a simple flash email form with three input areas: name, email and message. What i have is an empty movie clip with an onClipEvent (mouseUp) action applied to it which removes the text within each text field when it is selected. This is so i can have "name", "email" and "message" written in the input text boxes, which dissapears when the user selects it. The problem is that if someone puts their text in then reselects it after doing something else, then their text also dissapears... i suppose im looking for a way to remove the focus just once, or another way of removing the focus. here is the actionscript applied to the empty movieclip:

Maybe something like tabIndex.next? I know this doesn't work because I already tried it, but maybe something like it?
