Actionscript 3 :: HaXe, Differentiate Anonymous Function At Runtime?

Mar 8, 2011

I'm trying to differentiate anonymous functions like:

function() { trace("WOO"); }

from the other ones ('named'?) like

var _FUNC:Dynamic = function() { trace("WOO"); }

The reason I want to do that is because I can't compare between two anonymous functions, because they are two different ones.

var _TEST:Dynamic = function(a:Dynamic):String {
var _TESTA:Dynamic = function() { trace("WOO"); };
var _TESTB:Dynamic = _FUNC;
return (a == _TESTA) + ", " + (a == _TESTB);
}

If I run _TEST(_FUNC);, I'll get back "false, true". Even though they are the same function, they are NOT the same object.Is there a way to compare those such that functions that they are the same if they perform the same task? Is there a way to serialize functions? So that maybe I can compare the serialized representations and see if they share the same 'code'.

I need to be able to use param value out of the function, because a I need to perform a switch with this value, since the function wich receives de param value is an anonymous function I dont know how to do to get the value from outside the function because a dont have a reference name to the function so, the normal way to return a value is not going to do the job.

IDE :: Importing A Mp3 File - Nested Anonymous Function?

Apr 20, 2009

I am trying to play an MP3 File in Flash Lite 2.1 (I'm using Flash 8 to develop it). The filename of the MP3 file is imported from an XML file.Here is a copy and paste from the help file on how to do this:

// create a new Sound object
var my_sound:Sound = new Sound();
// If the sound loads, play it; if not, trace failure loading.
my_sound.onLoad = function(success:Boolean) {

[code]....

When I test this code on its own, it does work fine for me. However, I want the above to be executed inside a function that does a number of other things...
Here is a sample of what I'm trying to get working.

function myMusic() {
// create a new Sound object
var my_sound:Sound = new Sound();
// If the sound loads, play it; if not, trace failure loading.

[code]....

I think it's got to do with the fact that once I put it inside a function you are nesting functions (there is a function call from the onLoad event).

I tried changed the line:

my_sound.onLoad=function(success: Boolean) {
to
my_sound.onLoad=myFunctionName(parameters go here)

and then I created a funciton called myFunctionName but I wasn't sure how to send the sound object or what parameters the function should have or how to get the .start() method to work inside the new function.

Actionscript 3 :: Flash - Remove A Listener That Has An Anonymous Function?

Jan 6, 2010

up.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,
function clickFunc(event:MouseEvent):void
{
revealSpinner(event,51.42,1,spinner);

[Code].....

The above code adds a listener to a couple of MC's. Originally the methods were anonymous but I have named them clickFunc() in order to try an reference them in my remove listener.

Here is my remove listener code. Both of these snippets are in separate functions. The add listener method is called before the remove method.

up.removeEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, clickFunc );
down.removeEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, clickFunc);

As soon as I publish the movie I get this error:

1120: Access of undefined property clickFunc.

ActionScript 3 :: Anonymous Function As Click Handler Is Called Multiple Times Per Click

trace( "-----click detected-----" );

Problem is, the click handler is called multiple times per click. The number of times called seems to be random (sometimes 2, sometimes 4, sometimes 3 etc). could I be missing something in my code, or maybe I set up the button wrong?

also I noticed that it seems to always get called once on the first click. After the first click is when it starts getting called additional times, maybe that has something to do with it?

Can this be done? I am trying to use the ExternalInterface.call()

JS:

var someVar = "Test";

This does not work and I suspect it is because the ExternalInterface.call() does not like the anonymous function.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Differentiate Between A Click And A Drag?

Jun 2, 2010

I have created the attached FLA file as a horizontal draggable menu in AS3.At the moment i am having a couple of issues with it.

1) I am using MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN and MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP eventlisteners to control the dragging.

The problem is that I click down the mouse button on the movieclip, it will start dragging. All good. However if I then, after dragging it about, let go of the button it registers a click. Obviously i don't want it to do that, I understand that it is registering a click because a click effectively consists of a MOUSE_DOWN and MOUSE_UP. Is it something i am doing wrong with the dragging? I am not sure how to differentiate between a click and a drag?

2) I would quite like the stopDrag to have an easeout on it, instead of stopping dead. (Take a look at newcruelty.com for the effect i am after) is this possible, perhaps using Tweenlite or Tweenmax? I have attached the CS4 FLA file (it uses tweenlite)

ActionScript 2.0 :: Any Way To Differentiate Nested Root References?

Apr 24, 2009

I have a main swf file (basically, a movie player), which, for the most part, just loads swf files into a container object and plays them.The nested clips are typically just straight movies that start at frame one and just play to the end, then another clip is loaded.However, some of the nested clips are interactive (games and such) that have alot of actionscript (2.0) within them.Now the problem is that, within the nested clips, _root objects are referenced, however, when the clips are loaded into the main swf container, the _root references the _root of the container, rather than the _root of the nested clip.I figured out that I can replace the _root references with something like _root.container.xxxx, but when I do that the nested clips don't work as a stand-alone (which isn't really necessary, but is easier to test without having to first load into the container swf). So, is there a property I can set that will differentiate between a _root reference within a nested clip as opposed to a _root reference in the container clip?

How do I differentiate between a data provider update and a itemrender being recycled when using a custom itemrenderer in a DataGroup?I have overridden the set data function of the custom item renderer, but I have found that on making a change to the ArrayCollection used as the DataProvider some of the item renderers are not assigned the same object they had before the update. This has made it almost impossible for me to distinguish between a data update and an itemrender being recycled. Also, the data never seems to get set to a value = null, so that seems to be out as well.

My problem specifically I am designing a user interface with controls on it. 5 buttons rotate left, rotate right, zoom in, zoom out, and auto rotate. The interface in itself works fine, I can trace out button clicks, toggle the auto rotate button etc...

My program reads an xml file. Loads some images, fills an array with links for each image, and when the image is clicked a loader loads a swf from a URL and displays it on screen. No problem.

Now I originally had the zoom controls user interface in the runtime_loaded.fla library, and the mouse listeners in the same linked document class. The interface works with the movieClip in runtime_loaded.swf when it is in the same code.

Flex :: Setting The Correct Sort Function At Runtime?

Aug 27, 2009

Using Flex 3.2, I have a object which extends a TitleWindow. In this TitleWindow I have an AdvancedDataGrid.

On creation of this object, I pass it 2 lists, one full of data to display, and the other I pass an array of column definitions. This allows me to, at runtime, create the correct columns and define the correct display attributes for each column (e.g. booleans will show up as checkboxes, and dates are formatted in a specific format (coming in from an XML feed in a variety of STRING formats where nulls are a possibility)

The problem is that the default sort, being based on string, doesn't work 100% of the time and even when the format is one that would be sorted nicely, it fails when nulls are involved.

The above problem would be easily solved using a sortCompareFunction, but the fact is when you set the sortCompareFunction of the column, it seems to require you to hardcode in the column name into the function.

for reference here's the function I'm using to create the columns:

private function setupGrid():void
{
var localcols:Array = new Array();

JavaScript :: How To Dynamically Call Function At Runtime Without Using Eval

Nov 11, 2011

I'm trying to build an API in JS that will perform some operations and then execute the callback that's registered in AS when it's done. Because it's an API, I am just providing a JS method signature for another developer to call in Flash. Thus, the callback name that's registered in the AS part of the code should be a parameter that's passed in to the JS API in order for JS to communicate back to Flash.

For example:
[AS3 code]
ExternalInterface.addCallback("flashCallbackName", processRequest);
ExternalInterface.call("namespace.jsFnToCall", flashCallbackName);
function processRequest(data:String):void {
//do stuff
[Code] .....

Because the definition of the function is in AS, I can't use the window [function name] approach. The only way I can think of is to build the callback in a string and then use the eval() to execute it.

ActionScript 3.0 :: How To Access Static Function From Runtime Classes

Actionscript 3 :: What Is 'this' In Anonymous Event Handlers

Simple example:

ActionScript 3 :: Using Anonymous Functions As Event Handlers?

Dec 12, 2010

I came to AS3 from JS world, and I should confess that anonymous functions are my weakness. I tend to use them everywhere. Now, coming to AS3 I've heard and read in lots of places, that AS and Flash are enormously bad at handling garbage collection, that one should empty, dispose and remove all event handlers and objects manually to avoid weird and unexplainable memory leaks and crashes. Not sure what part of this is true, but I would like to follow best practices right from the beginning. How bad is idea of using anonymous functions as event handlers? Consider for example a code like this:

addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME, function() : void {
controls.elapsed = stream.time;
});

Ccontorls.elapsed is the setter, which apart from setting current play time for video player, updates the whole UI, and stream is NetStream object, which streams the actual video. There are lot's of other places where anonymous function may make code cleaner and more intuitive. Check the following code for simple fade-in effect for the control bar:

public function showControls() : void {
var self:Controls = this;
if (!visible) {
visible = true;
fadeTimer = new Timer(30, 10);
[Code] .....

I totally like how it looks and fits into the code, but I'm concerned about leaks. While Event.ENTER_FRAME handler probably would never become harmful in this form, what about timer listeners. Should I remove those listeners manually, or they will be removed automatically, as soon as I set fadeTimer = null ? Is it possible to remove listeners with anonymous functions properly at all?
