I want to rotate a line around a point in flex 4.0, i tried rotationX and all but whole line rotates and center of point is lost. How to rotate only one end point of line keeping the other constant?
Can someone point to example or explain how to do it? I'm a newbie in flex,
I'm adding a line to a canvas using canvas.moveTo(0, 0); canvas.lineTo(100, 100);, but I then want the user to move the mouse to set the rotation of the line.Google suggests using the rotation property,but I don't have a reference to the line object.Can I get a reference to the line or should I rotate the whole canvas?

I need to replace multiple contiguous new line/line feed characters in flex with a single new line character.
Example:
The string

Should be converted to

I need to read a large CSV file (8-15 MB) and generate a LineChart in Flex AIR. Since Chart need data in structurd format like XML. When I read CSV and convert it to XML object 8 MB file size become 24 MB XML object and not able to graph.
Best solution is to read Line by line and read only part of data. How can I acheive this in Flex AIR ? Is it possible to read line by line in Flex.
Otherwise what are the best ways to draw a graph in FLEX using large data.

Where template is a canvas. Its rotate nicely but the problem is the position is not in right place. i.e. it is not in (50,50) after rotate.
I want to rotate an image continuously on page load. Code works fine for 1 rotation on page load but to achieve the same effect continuously I have included the .play() statement in an infinite while loop as shown below. But it causes the page to hang and nothing shows up.

I realize you can make one of each effect, set the same target, and hit .play();, but this produces weird results (acknowledged by Adobe, fixed in Flex 4). I'm trying to have an object move from the top of the screen to the bottom while it rotates around it's own center. When called independently, both of these effects work perfectly. When called together, the object always rotates around the top left corner. I even tried putting them both inside a <Parallel> tag with no success.

I am currently trying to figure out how to rotate an object so its corner follows the current x and y of the mouse. I always get confused on the math of things like this. I know how to listen for the events and everything, I just am unsure of how to calculate the amount of rotation to apply. I will probably be rotating via a Matrix so I can rotate the object around its center, rather than the upper-left corner of it. My question here is: how do I get values when I don't want them constrained, like scaleX and scaleY?

View 2 RepliesMy group is working on a Flex/AS3 scientific web application that is data intensive. Luckily the only plots involved are line charts. However, each line chart may have multiple traces (up to 24), and each trace may contain up to 2000 points. The user will need to zoom in and out and interact with the data (e.g. data tips, etc.).
The response I'm getting from developers is that's a lot of data to render in a plot in Flash. For reasons beyond the scope of this post, we can't sample the data to reduce the size (this has already been done and nature of the data prevents further sampling).
Rendering speed is critical for this app. What kind of rendering speed should I expect the Flex 4 line chart component to provide for a given number of points (e.g. 1 second to render 1000 points?)
Are there products available that handle plotting large data sets better, which can be incorporated in Flex (I've seen FusionCharts and ZingCharts online but have no idea how they compare with Flex's components)? Of those, which are easy to develop with while still providing a lot of flexibility in look and feel?
I want to give a good look and feel to the flex line charts. How to show it more attractive. I have done everything, now i want to show it more attractive/rich look and feel. can you guys provide me any samples.

When using a mx:HRule or mx:VRule, Flash Builder suggests using a s:Line instead. Why would I want to write stuff like this :

instead of
<mx:Hrule width="100%" />

I'd like to be able to write a .swf file that is runnable as a command line app. In other words, I would be able to create actionscript classes which can interact with stdin and stdout, and could then execute that .swf directly in the command line. I suspect that this isn't really possible. Can anyone confirm that? EDIT: A couple of the answers pointed out that using Flash for command line work probably isn't the best choice. I wholeheartedly agree in most situations. The reason I am asking about this is because I want to do some AS3 code generation, and reflecting on AS3 classes within the runtime would be easier than parsing the code or walking the intermediary XML that asdoc produces. I'm doing the XML approach now in Ruby, but would love to have a cleaner solution!
