I want to show PDF in Flex AIR. I have done this with HTML components but the problem is that whenever I view the PDF in Flex HTML component the popup or Alert goes behind the component.
how can I show the Alert on HTML component?

Adobe AIR provides Alert.show(). However this seems to fail if there is no top level window like in the typical tray example ("Example: Creating an application with no windows"):

I failed to make Alert.show() work in this situation. Seems that there is no alert() either.Is there any way to show an alert prompt (modal or nonmodal) in such a situation without reinventing the wheel?Example AIR tray application skeleton:

Note the "visible=false" which must be preserved even that this is what's causing the trouble.

Problem scenario : When the user activates "edition mode" and leaves screen, I would like to show a alert with two options : save changes, or discard changes.There are different ways to exit screen :
There is a List on the left side containing other possible editabel data. A click changes the data in my component.
There is a menubar on top leading to other screens.
The edition component is embedded in a Tab navigator. When changing tabs, the alert has to show. Closing browser.
Do I have to catch all of these events and plug at all those places?
I'm working on a project for a User Interface Design class, so the emphasis is on the UI being as nice to use and non-annoying as possible. I would like to display a message to the user after they've clicked save, for example, without requiring them to click an OK button. I'm thinking of the kind of thing you see in gmail if you send a message or do some other actions, where a message appears on the screen, but the message disappears after you do something else.
I'm sure there's a way to do this in Flex (I'm using 4.6), but I just don't know what it is. I'm pretty new to Flex and I'm having trouble finding anything via Google, because the results keep showing confirmations messages in Alerts; I don't know the search terms to get the results I'm looking for.
I created an event handler to override the tab and tab + shift functionality, as tabIndex was not working as I expected it to. (I have some dynamic check boxes and it was taking two tabs to get into the VBox group and a couple of other anomalies).
I added some alert boxes so I could see what the current target is, now I have the functionality working perfectly...but when I remove the alert boxes the tab and shift/tabs do not work.
I tried to replace the alerts with trace's to no avail. I also tried to enclose the code around a switch statement and add breaks.
I'm using the Alert.show in a function and I want to get the user answer from there. So how can I achieve this. The problem is the function that call Alert.show will return a true or false value depend the user answer.but It seem that in Alert.show it only allow to pass in a CloseHandler for this. that is a new function. and since that I can get the user answer from where it is call to return the user answer.

I am creating the database features and testing them using online browsers.What I want to know is that some alerts I am getting a 'prevent this message from multiple dialogues' message on the alert but this is because of the browsers. But if the application is on flex and flash builder (I don't know which one is where the app is stored coz I have never used it) then will that message appear on some alerts in that software or is it only on browsers?[code]

However when implementing the form into another page my alert window appears on unwanted places.
I searched for an as command who tells what the x and y value of the alert are. I searched the internet the flash help and kirupa but couldnt find anything

I am having an issue where I show an AlertBox message when the user hits ENTER and the focus is in a text area. The pop up works fine, but when the user hits enter the Alert closes as expected, but the TextArea listener receives the ENTER event from the Alert and pops the dialog up again. I have tried a number of ways to catch and eat the event but so far I have not been lucky. Is there way to accomplish this?

LOVE stack overflow!I am working on the same site and the other day I was on a computer and the uploader script was not working (uploadify), I was frustrated and looked through the code and everything was fine, worked on all other computers, then I decided to check if flash was installed and it wasnt.
Is there any way to check if the user has flash, and if they dont somehow say that on the page? I know for Javascript there is a tag, but is there something I can use for Flash?

However this is the ONLY flash on my site. If the user doesnt have flash (think ipod) i'd like to fallback to an html implementation. How do i do it? I know logically ppl wont be uploading via ipods but if i were to play music i can use a flash audio player fallback to html5 audio in that case.
I have an Air Application that uses a HTML Component. The HTML page that the component is rendering includes images with title tags. The tags render fine outside the Air Application, but when run in the AIR application, they do not render.

I can't seem to find anything in Adobe's documentation about accessing the HTML of a web page through the HTML component in AIR.
I've looked into "domWindow", but that seems to only return Javascript.
Is there a property I can access that has the whole of the HTML in string format or do I need to use URLLoader or something like that?
I am currently trying to learn how to use MySQL, PHP/XML, and Flash together. What I have so far is a list box that loads the MySQL table "subject" through the following code: PHP File:

This code works exactly how I want it to but what I now want to do is have each list item in the list (when clicked) show another list component that will display the corresponding product items from the MySQL "items" table. I was thinking of creating a new flash file for each set of items and then have the subject list display the SWF files but I want to be able to add new subjects without having to go back into flash and do more coding.
Is that possible for the tilelist component to show two images in one row and column?
View 1 RepliesI have a Flash site that I'm designing. The movie that I'm working with is the main movie into which my external .swf's will get loaded into. Now in the very first frame of my main .swf I have the progress bar component setup running in manual mode (I'm running in manual mode because I'm not using the loader component in conjunction with the progress bar. I figured that I wouldn't need the loader just yet because this is the progress bar for the main movie and not for an external .swf...) with this code:

Now when I test it in FlashMX 2K4 Pro using "Simulate Download", everything works fine EXCEPT: Theres this white box that shows up right where my progress bar is in the first frame. After the progress bar loads (itself) then, you actually see the "candycane" indeterminate load bar and then after my other frames in the movie loads, it goes into my second frame and everything is cool.How can I make that white box go away? I tried using actionscript that would make the progress bar invisible until after it finished loading and then go to visible, but when I tried that, the component never came back visible. I just need to make that white box go away, it's taking away from the "beauty" of everything else. Also, my load bar doesn't show any percentages. It just flashes "loading" until after the rest of the frames are loaded. How can I get it to show the percentage of whats loaded so far?To download a copy of my .fla, just click here.

View 2 RepliesI don't have a clue on what I'm doing wrong. Sometimes, when I open this page my html page , the swf don't appear. It won't happen always, but is really frequent.Important: when it don't appear, I do can hear the sounds that the swf movie makes. In other words, I'm shure that the object is on the page, but it just won't be visualizable.The error occurs on Firefox and Chrome (I didn't see it happening with IE, but I won't doubt that it is possible)The problem isn't in the swf because I have already tested with another file that have no code at all and the same problem occurs.Here is the page's code, generated by Flash CS5.5 when publishing the swf:

I'm trying to use a custom Text component to show a series of comments. I got the original idea from:

I've got the base case working but I am stuck with 2 problems I cant seem to figure out:
Since I am drawing around the text, the actual height of each bubble is greater than that of the Text field, as a result, the last bubble is always chopped off. I have tried explicitly overriding the height getter, and adding some padding, but I cant seem to get it right. You can see an example here: [URL] In my layout, I have 2 VBoxes (one nested inside the other). The first vbox shows a form where the user can enter a comment, and the second box has all the comments. In order to ensure that the scrollbars only show up on the second box, I set minHeight="0" on the nested VBox, but then for some reason, some comments' text is shifted to the right.
