ActionScript 3.0 :: Compiler Is Throwing That 1000: Ambiguous Reference Error For Any Reference ?

Sep 3, 2007

I'm having this frustrating error showing up and I have no idea why. Let me show you my classes and see if you can spot anything wrong.
First, here's my ILode interface:

ActionScript Code:
package com.schelterstudios.lodeSystem.flash.lodescode].....

So the problem I'm having is the compiler is throwing that 1000: Ambiguous reference error for any reference to instance.priority or instance.label. Why??? Instance is typed to IFlexLodeInstance, and IFlexLodeInstance lists method signatures of priority and label getters, and it inherits ILode, which lists method signatures for priority and label setters. What can I do to get the compiler to stop complaining?

ActionScript 3.0 :: 1000 Instances Cost 1000 Memory Space?

Aug 13, 2009

I'm using Flex3 building my AS3 projects for some 3D effects. I am going to create 1000 polygons(or rectangles) on the scene, without texture mapping. It seems the native 3D api of AS3 needs quite a lot memory:

[Code]....

here i created 1000 sp on the scene, the runtime memory cost seems to be more than 60MB. if increase to 2000, memory goes to 120MB. It seems the FVM's native 3D api generates a bitmap texture for each sprite, it's pretty memory costing. The alternative way may be is to draw the projected vertices of the sprites frame by frame by using local3DToGlobal and drawTriangles() to render the scene, but that could be slower. So is there any way to render many instances using the native 3D feature with costing much memory?

Professional :: TypeError: Error #1009 - (Null Reference Error) With Flash?

Jun 13, 2010

I am not an expert in flash, but i do work with AS and tweak Flash projects , though not having deep expertise in it. Currently i need to revamp a flash website done by one another guy, and the code base given to me, upon execution is throwing the following error."--- TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null objectreference.atNewSite_fla::MainTimeline/__setProp_ContactOutP1_ContactOut_Contents_ 0() at NewSite_fla::MainTimeline/frame1() --"The structure of the project is like, it has theifferent sections split into different movie clips. There is no single main timeline, but click actions on different areas of seperate movie clips will take them between oneanother.All the AS logic of event handling are written inline in FLA , no seperate Document class exists.

Preloader Movie clip is the first one getting loaded. As i understood the error is getting thrown initially itself, and it is not happening due to any Action script logic written inline, because it is throwing error even before hitting the first inline AS code.I am not able to figure Out what exactly it causing the problem, or where to resolve it. I setup the stuff online, for reference if anybody want to take a look at it, and here is the link.You need to have flash debugger turned ON in your browser, if need to see the exception getting triggered.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Loading Flash SWF - Reference Error

Jan 6, 2012

I am getting an error 1065 which is a reference error. I have an html page that loads a flash swf. The error is on the externalinterface.addcallback statement. If I use a flash swf file with the code in that file I have no problem with the external interface. It communicates with the html page. If I take that same flash program and create a class (.as) file and place my code in the class file I get the error. If I comment out the externalInterface.addCallback statement in the .as file there is no error. All other functions and code in the .as file work except the addcallback statement. I have searched for a solution and looked at sample code and it seems I am set up properly. I tried on opera, i.e., and chrome with same results.

Server - How To Control Over 1000 Flash App Instances

Mar 9, 2012

I have a flash app running on 1200 machines on a local network. Currently, the app polls the php server every 10 seconds, and is returned a 14 byte string with the state. If the state is new, the app changes mode and gets new data from the server. 1200 machines polling every 10 seconds to pick up ~8 state changes per day seems like an awful lot of network traffic for this.

There is other traffic on the network (streaming video, web surfing etc). When the network load gets high, some of the machines loose the ability to communicate with the server and hang. When I run 400 machines I don't run into this problem. Looks like a scalability problem. What would you recommend for lightweight communication between server and 1200 clients? Remoting with AMFast? XML Sockets? Something else entirely?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash Updated CS4, Code Returns #1009: Cannot Access A Property Or Method Of A Null Object Reference?

Jun 7, 2010

I have two MC's on stage,

MCmenu is a button array,

MCtext is a collection of text with frame labels. It's labeled as MCtext

The menu buttons tell MCtext to play the frame label as the button clicked. This *used to work*, but Flash was laggy as hell so I updated it. Now the same code returns #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at MCmenu/itemClicked()

Code:
function itemClicked(butn:Event):void {
parent.MCtext.gotoAndPlay(SomeArray[butn.currentTarget.label);
}

I've tried just using a frame number, but still the same #1009

I've tried the Script Assist to target the MC on the stage:
using root.MCtext... still the same #1009
using this.MCtext... returns a #1010

Flash :: HTTP Streaming For Less Than 1000 Daily Views?

Jun 29, 2010

I want to use http streaming (ie. partial download) to serve some videos (medium to HD quality) to public.Idea is to have videos on server and offer some web page with embedded video player for user to watch selected video.Planned capacity is about 250 to 1000 daily views, with low concurrency requirement (ie. not many users in parallel watching video)I am thinking of complete solution like FLVPlayer or flowplayer to support this.What bothers me are network bandwidth requirements (what is minimum kbps) mainly, and this video player performance when in "heavy" use.For "heavy use" I consider adding possibility to stream many separate video files that I will add in back-end (via XML file or similar) and don't have experience with these players.

Flash :: Best Way To Handle EventListeners/Handlers For 1000 Buttons?

Aug 18, 2011

I'm working on a game where users can win buttons/badges as awards. I estimate there will be around 500 awards, in all.I want to allow the users to sell their duplicate/unwanted badges to the bank and buy new ones from the bank.I am showing the badges in multiple awards frames. Below the badges, I show the count, along with a "Buy" and "Sell" button.My question is: What's the best way to handle SO MANY buy & sell buttons? Is there a way around coding 1000 eventListeners and 1000 eventHandlers?

One possible solution is to name my buttons, incrementally, like "buy_mc1", "buy_mc2", etc. Then do a loop to create listeners for this["buy_mc" + i]. However, I would then have to make VERY sure that I link these back correctly to the awards.Currently, I have an "award_mc" field in my database, which stores the name of the movieclip in my .fla. From that, I can access related assets, like the count field, like: this[db.award_mc + "_count"].txt.Unfortunately, this method does not lend itself well to looped access.Maybe I can create an array of movieclip names that are in synch with the buy/sell buttons. For example:

myArray = {aMissionAward, anotherAward, ubernessAward};

My buttons would be: buy_0, buy_1, buy_2, etc.

When someone clicks a button, I can link buy_2 to "ubernessAward", then look for "ubernessAward" on the database.How can I get the number from the button, though? Even if I can loop through setting up the eventListeners, will I have to set up individuatl eventHandlers to process the correct index number? I was not able to get this to work with buttons on the stage. Apparently, buttons are a static class. MovieClips are dynamic, so I was able to get this to work by using MovieClips. Here's what I did:

Added 3 MovieClips to the stage.
Named them "mc0", "mc1", and "mc2".

Add this AS3 code:

for (var i:Number=0; i<3; i++)
{
this["mc" + i].addEventListener( MouseEvent.CLICK, onMcClick );[code]....

From here, I can tie the awardKey to an array of MovieClip names. Then, I can use the MovieClip names to read my database.This is why I come to Stack Overflow, FIRST, when I have a problem. :)

Actionscript :: Programmatically Change The Source Of An Image Whose Name Is Ambiguous?

Sep 20, 2009

How do you say or achieve container.child.source = image.png?

I have a hexagon map built by specifying width and height. I draw a wireframe and place a base image for each hex into a canvas. Next, the canvas listens for a mouse click. I then run a calculation to determine which hex the mouse click was closest to. My intent is to change the source of the image that the user clicked on.

I know that mapSlate.getChildByName(mapProperties[closestHex]['baseName']) is the intended hex but I can't quite get to the point of doing a .source as Flex doesn't know that the selected object is an image.
