Flex :: 3 - Auto-sizing - Automatically Resize To Fit The Length Of The Content And Positioning
Jan 4, 2010
I am working on a flex app that uses XML templates to dynamically create DisplayObjects. These templates define different layouts that can be used for each page of content in the app (ie , 2 columns, 3 columns etc etc). The administrator can select from one of these and populate each area with their content.
The templates add one of 3 types of DisplayObject - HBox, VBox or a third component - LibraryContentContainer (an mxml component that is defined as part of the app) - which is effectively a canvas element with a TextArea inside. The problem that I am getting is that I need each of these areas to automatically resize to fit the length of the content but don't seem to be able to find an effective way to do so.
In the LibraryContentContainer, when the value of the TextArea is set, I am calling .validateNow() on the LibraryContentContainer. I then set the height property on both the TextArea and LibraryContentContainer to match the textHeight property of the TextArea. In the following example, this is the LibraryContentContainer, viewer is the TextArea and the value property of the TextArea is bound to this.__Value. v is the variable containing the content for the textarea
I'm creating windows in a Flex application (AIR) using the mx:Window component. I'd like the window to be automatically sized to its content (because it will be dynamic), in the same way that an mx:Panel or mx:Box would be.I've customized components before, so I'm somewhat familiar with the UIComponent lifecycle, but I'm not quite sure how best to do the logic for auto-sizing a container.If it makes it easier, I'm not expecting that the window auto-size to its content at any time, thought that would be a bonus!
I want that the DataGridColumn or AdvancedDataGridColumn would automatically resize it's width so as to fit the content within. I'm new to flex. I want to implement something like HTML tables. The Data Rendered is simple Text. Some Rows have little longer Text, in that case I would like to automatically extend the width of DataGridColumn.
I need to position an object in the bottom half of a container (working on flex 4)- abt 25% above the bottom...and cant use x,y coordinates given need for resizing. I have been able to position the layout containers and they work well
Also need fonts to resize as the buttons get smaller
I want to put together a flash gallery of photography for my photography business. I am very good at Photoshop design, html, css, javascript but I am a novice with flash. I can use it and use some actionscripting but my knowledge is limited.
I see galleries like this one: [URL]
The images expand and contract perfectly as the browser is resized. I am used to having to size pics for the lowest res screens (I design for 1024 width resos's usually).
What size should I make pictures to work like this... Does flash scale them down / up / either... are there quality issues with letting flash manage the sizing.
Is there a way to have the TileList component to auto-size to its contents? I have tried setting it 100%, but it seems that won't help. I don't want to hard-code the height because the content will be vary, and I don't want scrollbars to show up.
I want the .swf graphic to fit the div just like the image in box #5 does.
Right now I can't get it to be either the proper size or the proper alignment. I'm admittedly not a Flash expert, so any clues would be great here.
Also, other stuff on the page is totally broken because this is just the "dev" version of the site where I test stuff out. So hopefully that can all be ignored.
I have a textField that I'm populating dynamically through loadVariables. The text that is being loaded dynamically is HTML with an <img> tag. Once I autoSize the texField the image is removed.
I'm trying to have a dynamic text field with a black background. I want the text to be of fixed width, but expandable height, and for the background to grow with the text field depending on the input. I looked at the "autoSize" property for TextField, but it looks like that only adjusts the width.
Some "pseudocode" for your consideration: rolloverInfoBox.infoTextTitle.text="Title"; rolloverInfoBox.infoTextBody.text="Text body..."; rolloverInfoBox.infoTextBody.autoSize=true; // doesn't work; just for reference rolloverInfoBox.expandableBackground.height=rollov erInfoBox.infoTextBody.height;
I have an interface that will have a variable amount of buttons in it and the text on each button can be anywhere from 10 characters to 30 characters. What I'd like to do is to have my buttons auto-size width wise based on the length of the text. I don't think that will be too difficult but I'd also like to have rounded corners on the top of the buttons so that they'll look like tabs and from my experience when you change the width of these buttons that have rounded corners they start looking a bit odd since they won't retain their original radius
Not sure if I am doing this the best way but I want to create a mobile app that has a home menu screen much like the facebook iphone application(with out all the fancy button moves etc). The FB app has a 3X3 set of buttons that allow you to access things like news feed or friends.In order to keep my layout consistent across different device screens I was trying to user the TileGroup with an image as a button for each tile.but while I can specify the tilegroup to use 100% width and height and set the number of rows and columns to 3. It does not appear to autosize the height of the rows and columns to fit the screen. and it won't let me specify the with/height as a percentage.
i am developing an application with Adobe Flex in Flex builder 3. my application works fine in 1024 x 768 resolution but it doesn't fit in my laptop's screen which happen to have 1366 x 768. my question is how to make my application automatically resize according to the resolution ?
I'm developing a Calendar application, and I'm using a Spark List inside a Panel for each individual day, in a 5x7 grid. I'd like to make sure that the individual lists stay the same size and simply add scrollbars when needed, but I'd also like to avoid setting an explicit width or height to maintain compatibility with multiple screen resolutions.
I have a large Group which contains two rulers and labels for distances, and a varied amount of smaller groups consisting of images and labels. Now my task is to print the large group on a page with a header and a footer. The large group extends outside the edge of the page and pushes the footer off the page. If I was printing just the Group, I could use
to fit it all on one page, but that would scale the header and footer as well, which I don't want - I'll be printing more pages and want the header and footer sizes to stay the same.
Is there a way to scale only the group and its contents automatically before printing?
in flash builder 4 how do i use the skinning option to make sure the popup dropdown list changes it's width to fit the longest item in the list?(the prompt area - the component when it is closed - should not change it's width)
I have an application where I try to load an external SWF. So, we have: My application: The Stage's dimensions are 768x1280. ScaleMode = EXACT_FIT. External SWF: It's another application where its stage is: 800x600. ScaleMode = EXACT_FIT.
The problem is that the external SWF does not modify its size although I apply "scaleX, scaleY", change its width and so on. I also tried to insert it into a Canvas container (as "How to resize an external SWF to fit into a container?" ) but it didn't solve my problem.
The interesting piece of code is when the external SWF is loaded by my application: private function onLoadedApp( evt:Event ):void{ stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.EXACT_FIT; trace("Loading Application.."); var loaderInfo:LoaderInfo = evt.target as LoaderInfo; loaderInfo.removeEventListener( Event.COMPLETE, onLoadedApp); [Code] .....
I also tried to do it through SWFLoader, but the external.swf's content doesn't change its original size although I add the "scaleContent" parameter.
Visual results I got: The external SWF is loaded on the suitable position and it "seems" to have 320x240 dim. But its width is a bit cropped, since if I stretch the Flash Player I achieve to see the rest of the external swf's stage. Besides, the external SWF never is resized although I shrink/stretch the Flash Player. It always remains fixed (if I trace its dimensions, I always get 800x600, although I visually see 320x240)- If I increase the stage's width of the main application, this little clip disappear.
I know the original Stage's dimensions are 800, and this is greater than the original stage of my application (768), but I think, when I do the resizing, external SWF's Stage have to be fitted in the container. It is fitted, but a part of the external SWF is not seen. It's like Flash Player remembered that the external SWF Stage's width were greater than my application's one...
I've set the publish settings to 100% width and 100% height and have then added the 'noScale' function into the first frame of my timeline. Here is an idea of what I'm trying to create:
I have three movieclips that are touching the left side of the Stage and want them to touch the left side of the browser but centre vertically. I can do this by adding the 'Stage.align = LC' command, but not sure if this is the right way to go about it.
The movieclip that is on top contains a logo and I want it to have a fixed size. I called the instance name 'logo_mc'.
The movieclip below 'logo_mc' is called 'container_mc' and is a strip of photographs that I need to run from the left to the right side of the browser no matter what the browser size. I need this movieclip to scale proportionally up and down as they viewer resizes their browser so the first photo is touching the left side of the browser and the last picture is touching the right side (without distorting).
The final movieclip is called 'buttons_mc' and is right below the 'container_mc' clip. This movieclip needs to remain a fixed size.
Obviously when the 'container_mc' clip resizes I need the other movieclips to move up and down to stay the same distance above and below the 'container_clip'.

coordinates in flash, particularly after resizing the flash player window.I have an mc on stage and draw an ellipse inside that mc. The movie is of size 800 x 600.
Code: var ellipse:Shape = new Shape(); ellipse.graphics.beginFill(0x6CCDF4, 0.5); ellipse.graphics.lineStyle(4,0x186B87);
[code]....
If I check the coordinates of that ellipse from it's transform property, I see that the top left is at 400, 300.
This seems fine to me as this position is in relation to the stage, yes? If I convert this to a position local to the container I get values ~0,0.
Code: var stagePoint:Point = new Point(ellipse.transform.pixelBounds.topLeft.x, ellipse.transform.pixelBounds.topLeft.y); var localPoint:Point = join.canvas.globalToLocal(stagePoint);
When the flash player window is resized, the coordinates change entirely. Instead of being at 400,300 the transform property indicates that it is at 640, 510. I assume this is because the viewport has changed, but the stageWidth and width properties of the stage do not change.
I'm trying to create a website that behaves similiar to [URL]. They have managed to create a website where the objects are constantly aligned to either side of the page (not just on resize). For example, the logo slides in and automatically aligns itself to the right edge, regardless of window size. How do they do this?
URL...Its a dynamic positioning template, basically.I'm importing docked_icons.swf onto the stage via the holder movie clip (at the end). However, the position is messed up until I resize the window. From there, it's perfect. How do I set the initial position to be correct?[code]
please take a look at [URL] The flash graphic is supposed to auto-resize to the page size but it does not. If I take the same code and put it in an "ordinary" webpage it works fine - look at [URL] What I had hoped to acheive is the effect in this page where the flash movie resizes to match the size of the browser window. I am using the script AC_RunActiveContent.js and calling it from the webpage with the height and width attributes set to 100% - it seems to be sizing the flash at 100x100 instead.....
I want to create a photo gallery where the photos don't have to be the same size. I need the photo border or container to smoothly resize to accomadate each new image.
I just can't see it. I took a resizing prototype function from the compiled fla in the resizing slideshow thread (found here, post #171) and combined it with the concepts from the hover caption tutorial on kirupa. But instead of creating a dynamic text box in the hover movie clip I am creating the text dynamically using createTextField and then autosizing it using textfield.autoSize = true (didn't seem to work when I used "left"). When you use createTextField you have to specify a width and height. The autoSize command seems to dynamically resize the textfield in height but not in width. When running a trace the width is always the same though the height changes
how a browser automatically resize itself, once visitors type in the link ? and no rescale allowed.i know the way to open a fixed size pop up window, but i haven't seen any tutorial about auto-resize browser ?
