Flex :: Adobe AIR: Controls Flipped (mirrored) In Certain Build Environments

Aug 18, 2010

I'm having an issue where certain controls are flipped, depending on the machine that I'm building my project on. On my development machine, when I build it, everything is okay. However, when I build it on our build server, some things are flipped. It seems to be things that are on a higher layer - for instance, options in the select control (see first image below), alerts/overlays (see second image below), etc. It's not just the text, either - the entire content is flipped, images and all.

I have verified that the code is exactly the same in both instances, so it must have something to do with settings or the flex SDK version. On my development machine, the Flex SDK version is 4.0.0.14159, and on the build server, the Flex SDK version is 4.1.0.16076. I can downgrade the SDK on the build server if needed - but could it really be an issue with the SDK?

Flash :: Flex - TFS Build 2010 Call An Ant Script And / Or Build?

Mar 31, 2011

In TFS 2010 build, I have a new build and I want to call an ant script that builds Flash. How do I call the ant script? Also How can I compile the Flash directly? I've seen the Power Tools and this question but it doesn't help me as we don't have TFS 2008. I can't find any documentation on how to use the power tools except the 1 sentence on the bottom of download page saying to create your build the old way and import it (which isn't very helpful). I've installed the power tools on the agent computer but I don't see any new options in the Toolbox when I'm designing the build flow.

Flex :: Creating Ant Build Script To Build Only When A Dependency Was Updated?

Apr 14, 2011

I just started working with ant a few days ago. Right now I have a general buildall.xml which should call each project's build.xml. Because some projects depend on each other, I need to rebuild some other projects which depend on it. This isn't a problem--I'm just setting the depends property of the target. However, ant is always building the dependencies, even when the files haven't changed.Let's say project1 has no dependencies; project2 depends on project1; project3 depends on project1, 2; project4 depends on project1, 2, and 3; and so on.I could hack a solution which looks at project K, and checks if project 1 .. project K have updated files using uptodate. If so, then run the target. This is messy and appears unnecessary.

What is the cleanest way to implement this?EDIT: So I decided to just hack in a bunch of targets, "check_projectK" where it does the uptodate checks on all of its source files, its build file, and the build files of the 1 .. K-1 projects. Due to dependencies, this is always handled correctly. However, this is still a large amount of copy and paste for a large workspace.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Detect A DisplayObject Has Been Mirrored?

Mar 6, 2009

At startup I want to know in AS3 if a DisplayObject has been mirrored in the X or Y-axis during artwork. Basically I want to know if a MovieClip got a negative scaleX or scaleY after using free-transforms.

myDisplayObject.scaleX and myDisplayObject.scaleY always starts out positive regardless any mirror actions during artwork.

The two functions I desire are:
function mirroredInXAxis(dpo:DisplayObject):Boolean;
function mirroredInYAxis(dpo:DisplayObject):Boolean;

Using firefox and Flash Player 10.0.2.54 The weird thing is, the laptop runs much better than the desktop. The actual calculations (update) take about 1.1ms on the laptop, and more like 3.15ms on the desktop. Even the render time on the desktop seems to be longer. When I publish, I need to make sure that EVERYONE can play the game as it's meant to be played. So I need to know if I should be benchmarking off my desktop or my laptop. I'm guessing something is messed up on the desktop, as it really doesn't make sense atm.

JSFL - Detecting When Element Has Been Flipped

Oct 3, 2011

I'm writing an exporter in JSFL, to export Flash animations into a format that can be replayed in a custom player. The exporter basically iterates through the timeline and through all the elements at each keyframe, and writes out the element's name, position, rotation, scale and a local offset. These are read into the custom player which feeds the data to a sprite engine to recreate each frame of the animation. What I want to be able to do is detect whether a given Element has been flipped (i.e. in Flash you Select the element (a symbol), then Modify->Transform->Flip Horizontal) so that the exporter can include that information too, allowing the sprite engine in the player to flip the UVs of the texture to replicate what's happening in Flash.

This would be useful for (say) using one symbol for a character's right hand, and just flipping it to be their left hand, rather than having to create a whole new symbol. Unfortunately I can't see any way of finding this information out. None of the information I have available for the Elements seems to imply that any kind of flipping has occurred. How can I detect flipping? If it can't be done algorithmically, I'd settle for the animator having to manually indicate that a symbol had been flipped (by creating some kind of plugin that gives them a tick-box which writes a value into the Element with setPersistentData(), for example), but I don't know how to make that sort of plugin either.

Professional :: Setting Up Runtime Shared Library URLs With Multiple Environments

Aug 26, 2010

I'm trying to figure out if we can use RSLs to contain common UI controls for our next project.  I'm running into an organizational issue that I can't quite figure out - how to get the RSLs to work in both a local development/debugging environment, and on a production web environment, with the same exporting/importing URLs.

Here's what my setup would look like.  Say I have a main application main.swf, an RSL lib.swf, and a UI module dialog.swf.

Main.swf loads or embeds dialog.swf.  lib.swf exports some symbols that dialog.swf imports.

On a local development environment, these swfs are found in folders like so:

[URL]

Here is the problem.  If I set the export/import url for symbols in lib.swf to "assets/lib/lib.swf" (relative to the location of main.swf), the runtime library gets loaded fine in the local environment.  But in the web environment, it does not load - the player just shows the "..." graphic indicating it is trying to load.

Alternatively, I can use "http:/myapp.com/assets/lib/lib.swf" as the export/import url.  Now, it will work in the web environment.  However, in the local environment, dialog.swf will load symbols from the lib.swf that is out on the web, not the one that is local.  But I need it to load from the local version, so that designers can muck about with the assets and see the results locally before publishing to the web.

Is there some alternative way to set up the swf's, or way to set the URLs, or some other hoop I can jump through that will make the RSL load properly in either environment without having to manually change URLs all the time?

(Details: I am using Flash Builder 4, CS 5, Action Script 3, Flash Player 10... No Flex!  My example omits some details from my actual setup, such as the fact that we are using a preloader to load the main application, and a php script on the web page to start the preloader.)

Flex :: Override Child Node Controls In A Flex Tree Control?

Aug 20, 2010

I am currently developing a dynamic LineChart in FLEX 4.I am implementing a Tree control next to my LineChart, which will filter the LineChart dataprovider and lineseries. The tree control has several branches and ultimately 5 children (leaf nodes) at the bottom of the last branch.I need the leaf node/children to be displayed as checkboxes inside the tree control.As I understand,this will require overrides in the TreeItemRenderer class.This is where I am a little confused on how to implement that.Currently I can distinguish between leaf and branches using this code, in my main MXML component.I added this because it may be helpful to some beginning FLEXdevelopers, such as myself, who cannot easily find this functionality documented well:

private function treeClick(e:ListEvent):void {
_selectedItem = Tree(e.currentTarget).selectedItem;
if(mainTree.dataDescriptor.isBranch(_selectedItem)) {[code].....

I am looking at the TreeItemRenderer override class from the following example here: In the example, they override the "createChildden" super function to add checkboxes to the tree control.My question is, can I override the createChildren function directly in my MXML component, and not have to use an entire class file to override this functionality? Must I re-invent the wheel to do this?Also, how can I distinguish that my treeItem is a leaf node and not a parent, in the override function? I only want to add checkboxes to the leaf nodes, how can I differentiate? The following example adds checkboxes to all branches and leaf nodes, but I want to add checkboxes only to leaf node/children. How would you approach that?

override protected function createChildren( ): void
{
super.createChildren( );[code]............

Here is my tree tag:

<mx:Tree id="mainTree" dataProvider="{treeData}" itemRenderer="TreeCheckBoxItemRenderer" labelField="@label" showRoot="false" width="100%" height="100%" itemClick="treeClick(event)" />

Ios :: Creating Own IOS-controls With Flex

Feb 6, 2012

I was looking into creating iOS-apps (especially for the iPad) with the Adobe-Flex framework. It looks very promising to code apps this way. Is it possible to create own controls/widgets? In the far future I might want to create my own kind of gantt-calender or whatever. Is something like this possible and are there any good tutorials/book out there?

UPDATE: I want to create iOS Components that I can use in Flex. Controls, that are not aviable by default in Flex. Is that possible? By derivating or something?

UPDATE 2: In the meanwhile I found FlexLib to be useful. How hard is it to create stuff like this on your own? Especially for mobile devices. Are there any good tutorials, books, etc.

Eclipse :: Retrieve Build Information After Build Completes In FDT?

Jul 30, 2011

Using FDT, when I have a debug configuration with several operations in the launcher chain and the final launcher opens in Flash Player, how can I retrieve the build output from the console once the build is complete and Flash player is running?

It seems that once Flash Player has started the console clears to make way for the application's trace output, but I need to be able to look back over the events and build times for each item in my launch chain while Flash Player is running. Is there a setting I can enable to either log my build output to a file or to preserve it in the console?

Edit: I know I can still read the info when building normally, this question is specifically for building with the debugger.
