When a user decides to sign off they can click the sign off button and everything is peachy. However, a less responsible user may choose to sign off by simply killing the browser window. Is there any way to implicitly call an actionscript routine on this event?
I am working on an Adobe AIR Application. The size on Application window is 800X600 and is contains border container and border container contains many controls. What I want is to if user re-sizes the application then that container should also be re-sized according to scale. i.e If user maximizes or minimizes the window then that border container should also be maximized or minimized respectively.
View 3 RepliesI have created a simple slideshow of thirteen frames. The slideshow script starts at Frame 2. This is because I have inserted a preloader in Frame 1. When I output my SWF and upload it to the web, it pulls down without incident. However, when I "Simulate Download" locally, Flash says this in the Output window:
TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
at AS3GallerywPreloader_fla::MainTimeline/updatePreloader()

And it keeps writing this error message, ad infinitum, until I close the SWF movie window!

I should note that the slideshow portion functions as it should (the Back and Forward buttons advance frame by frame). In essence, the whole movie works. But I suspect I that error code is a bad thing to have. I ran the "Debug" feature (Debug-->Debug Movie), but got no apparent indication of a bad line of code.
I am working on the Google Calendar API which has been built for Flex/AIR. In the API, for performing a Delete or Update operation, it uses DELETE or PUT methods in the URLRequest. But I think these being REST based calls are supported in AIR. I am using this API in a Flash/AS3 application and have successfully implemented the Update functionality by using X-HTTP-Method-Override method for PUT and instead using POST, which is supported in Flash. But when I try to do the same thing for Delete method, I get a 401 error in the API call.

Even if the dragDrop and dragComplete events do no fire. Its almost as if I need to add an event listener to the dragManager, but that's not really possible..
View 2 RepliesI have a tree control with a custom item renderer. The item renderer has different states that should be set while an item is being dragged over the item renderer. I understand from reading this post [URL] that the 'right way' to do this is to override the 'getCurrentState' method and append some text. I do that.
Now in my tree control I handle the drag over event and get a reference to the itemrenderer that is being dragged over and I set the boolean 'dragOver' property to true. Now I just need to force my itemRenderer to redraw. I can't figure that out. A workaround, is to just set the currentState of the itemRenderer.
how can I force my itemRenderer to refresh? (and I've tried calling validateNow, invalideDisplayList/Properties/Size, to no avail)

Here's the code that allows multi-select list to drag into a tree area. What I would like to do is to change the alpha of the image that gets dragged around. I've done some research but most of the discussions out there talk about how to change the dragged image. What I want to do is simply change the default alpha of the dragged item from 0.5 to say 0.2. Also this solution should be able to handle multiple select dragging.
Below is a simple example of drag and drop that I would like to modify to allow for the alpha change of the draged item.

I'm developing an AIR application which uses multiple windows. I'm running into an issue where I want to open new windows (toaster notifications for example) when the primary application window is not visible, but the behavior is different depending on how the window is closed.
When a user hides all application windows with CMD-H, opening a new window causes all application windows to come back to the foreground (instead of just that new window, like I would expect). If the user closed a window with CMD-W, however, that window does not become visible when I open a new window.
Is there a way to either 1) tell when the user uses cmd-h to hide all windows OR 2) tell whether a window is hidden using cmd-h vs. closed cmd-w?
I installed the Adobe Flash Builder 4.5 which includes the eclipse plugin.I want 2 use my existing eclipse, so I copied the contents of plugin and features folder to existing eclipse folder.I see the Flex features in Eclipse, but trying to open the Flex Builder Path causes eclipse to crash. In Flex (Flash Builder 4) I am opening a new window via PopUpManager.addPopUp. I have timer code that runs in my component and I need to stop my timer when that window opens and start the timer again when the window closes.
I figure it's easy enough to stop the timer in the function that opens the window, but how can I start the timer again when the window closes?
Is there a way to tell if there is a pop-up window in front of my component, or if a specific pop-up window is still open via PopUpManager?
I will be releasing my Air/Flex application soon, but I am pretty sure there are a couple of bugs that may pop up on the various platforms that Air is available for. So I was wondering if there is a way to implement a mechanism, that would send an error report, logging where the error happened, to a remote server each time an app crashes? This way I might catch errors that otherwise would go unnoticed.
View 1 RepliesI have a flex app using the 4.5.1 sdk and AIR 2.7 running on an Android 3.2 tablet. During use, I can get it to crash fairly regularly. It's usually when I'm rapidly scrolling around in a List control. I can't seem to find the cause.
The application will just suddenly close. It happens in both debug and release builds.
When in debug mode, it just disconnects from the debugger and doesn't give me any useful information.
I'm at a loss on how to debug this. What are some techniques I can use?
I found the "adb logcat" command. Relevant info from the log below, unfortunately it doesn't mean much to me.

I want to create an AIR application in which i need to show the notification that when AIR application is minimize then at some interval of time message shows from the system tray similar like giving information. I have visited this LINK, its a nice component but tutorial is not that much good as component. I need to create a component like that or source is available from this site so modification in this component will also be acceptable. In the simple example of Skype, the OS returns control to the Flex app when Skype exits. But what about native applications which have their own event model and wants to communicate with the Flex event model. For example, a Face detection system which shows "Hello" on a Flex app when the camera detects a face. Can this be done in the current Flex framework?
View 1 RepliesI have a native (Obj-C, standard Xcode project) application and I'd like to integrate a partners iOS application (or specifically, it's functionality) into it as just another view in my application. The problem is that their application is a Flex/Air app. I really don't understand the Adobe compilation process on how it gets from a bunch of flex code down to an IPA. I don't see intermediate projects, shared objects, etc on the disk to produce that IPA. It looks like it doesn't rely on the Apple tool chain... as I understand it, you can produce the IPA on Windows as well. Is there any way to build that Flex app in such a way that I can import it into Xcode so I can link against it and use it as a library from within my application? While I specifically used iOS as an example since that is the most important platform, we'll want to apply this solution to our respective Android and Blackberry 6 apps as well.

When i try to run an HTML file with the embedded SWF file that accesses an FLV on my localhost server, i get this "Adobe FP has stopped a potentially unsafe operation" security message. View 2 RepliesI am working on a flash website that loads live inventory data from a public csv file publish by google docs. the csv file is located at a public address on google docs server:[URL].. I am using a URLloader and URLrequest within my flash movie to grab this data and assign it to different variables.
It works great when I preview the movie in flash. However, when I go to publish the movie and preview the html file its loaded into in dreamweaver, I get a security warning from adobe flash player: Adobe Flash Player has stopped a potentially unsafe operation
I went ahead and published the html file that contains the swf file to the web, and when I go to my site, I don't even get the flash player warning; it just sits there like its trying to load the URLrequest and never completes.
I understand that flash player has a security measures that prevents flash files from accessing files outside of the server directory that the swf file is published to. I know you can create policy xml files to tell flash it's okay to load the data, but those policy files have to be located on the public server from which the data is being grabbed. But it's not like I can waltz on to google's servers a stick a policy file in there!
Is there any way to tell the flash player it's okay to load this data without getting that security error? I can't have the end user having to go into their flash settings and adding the location manually. I just need it to work without the security warning.
Is there another method of loading data from an external server without tripping up flash player security? aka, something other than URLloader and URLrequest?

I was wondering if you can make an eventlistener to trigger to execute a function when the window/tab viewing the swf is closed. I searched around, and there seems to be a way to do this with flash.external class and javascript, but some users have javascript disabled, so is there a way to achieve this without javascript?

In development, I had to navigate to Adobe's flash player security page and designate my development folder as a 'safe' location. In deployment, I do not have the ability to do this. I've already built a flash 10 flex application which use the p2p feature (I'm using a developer key to connect to stratus), currently everything works fine. Now I want my application to run on Adoble Air Runtime, but it seems that p2p does not work for Air. I can successfully connect to stratus server in Air application, but after that, when I try to use NetConnection.nearID, an error occurs saying:"ReferenceError: Error #1069: Property nearID not found on flash.net.NetConnection and there is no default value."I've tried flex sdk 3.2 and 3.4, and neither of them works. Does anyone ever developed an Air Application that use p2p and can provide some hints?
View 2 RepliesI have made a mp3 player that is working fine, it plays a mp3 radio stream for several hours (last crash was after 6,5 hours) and then it crashes without any message or exception. This is very difficult to debug because it only happen after a couple of hours with the same stream. It appear in all browsers so it is a Adobe Flash problem or is this a buffer problem?
Must i use other buffering settings to play MP3 streams? Does anybody know this problem and what can be done to avoid this? Also another question is why memory consumption after hibernation of the pc is growing dramaticly (every second it eats a couple of 10Kb). After refreshing the page it is stable again. Why is this happening? Mp3 player is made in Flash 9 (CS3) with AS3 and the player is Flash 10 (latest). Running on Windows XP Prof with 3GB RAM.
I have tried to import a movie into Flash 8 and the message appears "The operation could not be completed as an error has occurred". It will not pu the movie on to the stage. Do you think there is something wrong with the movie file or am I missing a step? This is what I do:
1) open a new flash file
2) file - import video
3) browse to find the movie file and then click next
4) Click the option 'progressive download from a web server'
5) I dont change any of the default settings and I don't want a skin on it
6) It runs through like it is making the file and then the message appears "The operation could not be completed as an error has occurred".
