I need to dynamically bind properties of components created at runtime. In this particular case please assume I need to use bindProperty. I don't quite understand why the following simplistic test is failing (see code). When I click the button, the label text does not change.
I realize that there are simpler ways to go about this particular example using traditional non-dynamic binding, but I need to understand it in terms of using bindProperty.

View 4 RepliesIs it possible to retrieve the value from an TextInput box that is created at runtime?
I've assigned the TextInput box (or many MANY boxes, in this case) with unique names using something like, input.name = "input"+i inside a for loop. But then, later if I try to retrieve the value of input2.text, for example, I get the old 1120: Access of undefined property input2.
Oddly, if I assign an eventlistener to the input box in the same for loop, and trace e.target.name, I get the name input2. But if I try to call the value directly via input2.text, I get the error.
So is there some way to get that TextInput value without giving it a name within Flash? Or perhaps a better way to assign a name to it in the first place?

I regularly parse XML to get property names and their values then update correlated classes using this technique; however, Flex 4 no longer allows assigning the boolean property. I don't have a work-around.
If you trace the results:

I create instances of the component dynamically several times in my program, but I need to get a handle that will allow me to modify that instance of the component as desired. I pass specific information to this component on instantiation using bindable public variables in the component's MXML file. I add it to my main program using addChild().
I want to update the component's progressbar as necessary and I want to remove it from the box to which I addChild'd it. What's the easiest/best way to get a variable that will give me predictable access to each component so I can easily manipulate the components as necessary? Some research suggests creationComplete, but I decided it was faster to just ask than to go through lots of different experiments and come up blank.
Isn't there some way to re-write the following code, such that I don't need a gigantic switch statement with every conceivable type? Also, if I can replace the switch statement with some way to dynamically create new controls, then I can make the code smaller, more direct, and don't have to anticipate the possibility of custom control types.Before:

I am building a Flex application with ActionScript 3. Unfortunately I've hit a wall with this one...I would like to be able to apply an upSkin to my dynamically generated button like this:

View 2 RepliesI'm dynamically creating movieclips with dynamically created movieclips inside them and am having trouble with targeting them.Below is a simplified example of what I'm trying to achieve, in the real file there are a lot more movieclips and I'm creating and naming them with a for loop.
This one is just one Sprite created inside another sprite. I can target the top level sprite named "testname". However when i try target the nested MC it throws an error.The bottom couple of traces are just test MCs I've made to make sure i got the syntax right, on targeting nested movieclips.

I've a custom component where I do some graphics (e.g draw a line) and dynamically add a subcomponent (e.g a label) to it.
If I base the component off Group (which is recommended as per docs since its a spark component) then when I dynamically add a label the graphics part disappears.
However if I base it off Canvas this doesn't happen.
Why is that the case?

As is, I have an Application containing a BorderContainer and a DataGrid. At runtime, 3 new BorderContainers (which are dragable, and resizeable) are created based on XML data that contains X & Y co-ordinates, and Height and Width values, and then added to the pre-existing BorderContainer. How would I go about getting the properties of these children BorderContainers to be displayed and remain up-to-date in the DataGrid (such as when they are moved/resized)?

I've created a layouter that lays out these custom components, but to place them correctly, I have to know the custom componets width, height. They are created dynamically. After all of them created (creationCompleted event fired for every), i try to laying out them, but width/height property is still 0. I am also tried to add them to a canvas, before the layout process.
