Flex :: Builder 3 Compiler Won't Show Errors / Compile Specific Pages

May 3, 2010

In flexbuilder 3 for some mxml files I can purposely put in syntax errors and the compiler will seem to compile the specific page(but actually not compile it) or report any errors for that page. Is there any way that you know of to get the compiler to report the errors to me so I can get it to compile the page. I've tried rebuilding all and cleaning the project already.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Application Will Not Compile, But Gives No Compiler Errors?

May 21, 2008

I am having a problem that I cannot figure out. I have searched the internet, describing as best I could and I could only find one other person with the same problem as me and no one replied to his post. Here's to hoping someone knows what is up.My App was working fine yesterday, then I added a few lines of code to a class file. When I tried to test the movie, it wouldn't compile. It would just run through all of the frames flashing each control. It does not output anything to the Output window nor the Compiler Errors window, which is odd because even when it would compile before it would output some warnings to the compiler errors window.

So I went into the class I changed and commented out the changes I made. Still will not compile.Also, when I try and go and Debug the movie, it tells me "You cannot debug this SWF because it contains no Actionscript". I've tried researching this problem as well, but it seems that this problem occurs when people are using the Document Class. I am not using a document class. My actionscript is on the frames.This same problem happened for the first time on Monday, but by tinkering with files/settings, it was fixed. That is until yesterday when i made that change.

Flex :: Maven - Upgrade To SDK 4.5.1 From 4.1.0 Causes Namespace Compile Errors For Certain Mx Components?

Sep 29, 2011

I have a Flash builder project that I am migrating from SDK 4.1.0 to 4.5.1. This has been a relatively easy change (we are using maven for our builds, and were able to get a successful build after updating to the 4.5.1 dependencies).

As said, the project builds fine with maven and flexmojos. The issue is when opening the project in flash builder. The maven project is imported and then set as a flex project by running the maven flexmojos:flexbuilder build command.

The issue lies when certain mx components that are specified with the s: namespace are no longer accepted by the IDE, and result in an error. For example, for the following to compile:

<s:states>
<s:State name="normal" />
<s:State name="disabled" />
</s:states>

s:State must be changed to the mx namespace:

<s:states>
<mx:State name="normal" />
<mx:State name="disabled" />
</s:states>

This is just one example, and only happens for certain spark-namespaced components. Why is this? Why does this compile OK with Flex SDK 4.1.0 but not with Flex SDK 4.5.1, and what is the cause of the necessary namespace change?

Flash :: Flex4 - Compiler Error Using All Flex Charting Components Using 4.1 SDK W/Builder 4?

Mar 12, 2012

Why do I need to do add extra namespace declarations (below) in a Flex 4.1 "MX only component set" project to get it to compile within Flash Builder? (It says mx:LineChart cannot be resolved when a chart is added via Design View, and datavisualization.swc is referenced.)

Is there a way I can get this to compile without adding these special xmlns:charts, xmlns:series and chartClasses to the declaration? (If I just leave the default namespaces and use mx:SomeChartComponent, it doesn't compile.)

Flex Builder New Projects With Syntax Errors?

Feb 19, 2010

I'm a junior developer and I'm having some problems with my flex builder 3. Every time I make a new project, flex builder detects syntax errors like:

1084: Syntax error: expecting rightbracket before leftbrace. FotoBeheer line 23
1084: Syntax error: expecting rightbracket before public. FotoBeheer line 22
1084: Syntax error: expecting rightparen before s. DomoticaSystem line 16
1093: Syntax error. DomoticaSystem line 16

Nevertheless, Fotobeheer will run, but any other program just won't even start. Does anybody have any ideas how to solve this problem?

Flex - Errors Not Being Detected In Flash Builder 4

Jul 19, 2011

As with most IDEs when you type something that is an error it will highlight it with the red cross or red underline, and this is what used to happen in Flash Builder 4 but for some reason now it does not work.

I can type any old garbage and hit save, which forces the build (I have build automatically selected) and no error shows on the line, or in the Problems panel.

Flex :: Compile An ActionScript Class That Is In A Package To A Swf Using Builder 3?

Jul 11, 2009

How do I configure an ActionScript Project in Flex Builder 3 Pro so that I can compile an ActionScript class that is part of a package into a swf. For example, the class that I want to compile to swf is:

package utils {
import flash.display.Sprite;
public class Tool extends Sprite {
....

RootASProject is being produced by one developer, subASProject1 and subSubASProject1a by another developer, utils.Tool by yet another person.This directory structure enables each person to independently build modules and other resources, and quickly test the entire product.It is also important to note that these resources are loaded at runtime.So, class definitions must be fully qualified. For example, Tool.swf contains/defines "utils.Tool" not "Tool".

Developing with just the Flash IDE, this directory structure is not a problem. We create a Tool.fla and assign utils.Tool as it's Document Class then in the Flash IDE's Publish Setting, we set the class path to be NOT the current directory (.), but instead the RootASProject directory. If it were set to the current directory, the error would be: A file found in a source-path must have the same package structure '', as the definition's package, 'utils'. ToolTool.as. We're familiar with this error message and so I recognize that the Flex IDE is by default looking in the current directory for a subfolder, utils, to match the packaged class.

In the Flex IDE, I can add the utils parent, RootASProject, as an additional source path, but I do not know how to stop flex from looking in the current directory first.Using an ant build file, I can set the source path to RootASProject and the mxmlc is able to build utils/Tool.swf just fine. Apparently, it uses just the source paths passed to it, and does not automatically look for utils in the current directory.

The auto gen code is trying to dispatch an object of ArrayCollection type. As far I know that isn't possible. rror examples:

Actionscript 3 :: Automation Errors In Flex Builder 3 When Importing A Swc From Flash CS 5

Mar 13, 2011

I am facing a really weird issue while trying to use an "swc" file imported from Flash CS5, that I am trying to use in Flex Builder 3 (by converting symbol to "Flex Component"). The errors are coming in files which are not even remotely related to the "swc" file that i am importing. Now, I know that the automation stuff has come as a part of FB4, but I don't really have an option to migrate to FB4.I have tried to change the flex sdk settings in Flash CS5 (steps given below), but that has not helped.Edit-->Preferences-->Actionscript-->"Actionscript 3.0 Settings"-->"Flex SDK Path" (pointing this to flex3.5 sdk instead of Flex4.0 sdk)I feel that the issue is most probably a compatibility issue b/w Flex 3 and Flex 4, but have not been able to find a workaround for the same.
Flash :: Flex - Manage Library Symbols With Linked Classes In CS4 To Compile / Debug In Builder 4?

Apr 2, 2010

I'm building a video player using Flash CS4 (hereby referred to as "Flash") to create the graphic symbols and compiling and debugging with Flash Builder 4 ("FB4"). Here are the steps I take in my current workflow: --Create the graphic symbols in Flash. I've created a few different symbols for the player, but I'll focus on just the play/pause button ("ppbutton") here. --In the Library panel, I go to the ppbutton symbol's Linkage properties and link to a class named assets.PlayPauseButtonAsset that extends MovieClip. I do not actually have an assets package nor do I have a class file for PlayPauseButtonAsset as Flash will create them for me when I publish.

--In Flash's Publish settings, I set the project to export a SWC that will be used in FB4, called VideoPlayerAssets.swc. --After the SWC is created, I create my FB4 project called "VideoPlayer" and add the SWC to my path. FB4 creates the class VideoPlayer in the default package automatically. --In VideoPlayer.as, I import assets.*, which imports all of the symbol classes I created in Flash and are available via VideoPlayerAssets.swc. I can now instantiate the ppbutton and add to the stage, like this:

IDE :: Compiler Won't Compile - No Error/warning

Feb 26, 2009

I have a project with 430+ as3 classes, which we have been developing for a year.

For about a month now, sometimes the FLA won't compile, and no error or warning will be displayed. When I publish the movie, it takes about 60 seconds to compile, but when it's finished, the swf file produced it's only 1,1KB (instead of 850k which should normally be) and I get absolutely no Compiler Error or warning.

Sometimes, if I delete the ASO files and recompile, it works fine. Other times, this won't do it and I would have to quit Flash and open the project again. I have "Compress movie" and "Reduce file size and increase performance" set to false for nearly 2 months now, because I read somewhere that Flash can have trouble with projects using hundreds of classes (this actually helped).

Last week however, I cannot get it to work. No matter what I do, it won't compile. I try to delete a whole bunch of code from the Main class, get it to compile fine and then add a few lines each time, only to see that any random line of code can make it stop compiling again.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Image Map Linking - No Compiler Errors?

Apr 9, 2009

I've made an image map in Flash using AS3, however it does not seem to be working properly. The links only work in a strange succession. In order to click all the links you must first click the last link followed by the first link, then the second link. After that the image map behaves as it is supposed to. I'm not sure why this is happening. It complies without error and aside from the little quirk mentioned above, it works beautifully. I've checked and double checked the AS, even copied and pasted some code from one button to another to see if it would make a difference, but to no avail. I am using the code listed below:
button1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, callLink1); function callLink1 (event: MouseEvent) :void {      var url:String = ("http://www.google.com");      var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest (url);     try          {          navigateToURL (request, "_parent");         }          catch (e:Error) {             trace ("Error occurred!"); }
Flash :: Php - Extracting SWF Gives Compiler Errors In Adobe CS4

Apr 24, 2010

I have been given an SWF to edit a link in the AS code. The fact is the SWF uses some XML that is generated (actually retrieved) by PHP code from a database. menuXML.load("/sub/page/dynamic.php?genre=" + genre); so the point is we can use the same SWF 'mainfraim' and fill them with different animations/sources based on the link provided in dynamic.php?genre=### Now, I've used Flash Decompiler Gold to extract all files in the SWF and can open it again in Adobe Flash to edit it. When done I enter CTRL+ENTER and there are immediately 4 compiler errors!! Errors:

1x < Unexpected 'if' encountered >
2x < Statement block must be terminated by '}' >
1x < Ecpected a field name after '.' operator. >

How can these errors be present, when the original SWF works perfectly??! If I don't manage to solve this, I'll have to find out how to create an .php file the SWF tries to use which can select the proper resources (from a database I guess) to show them (using ?genre=###)

Not sure even where to look as even when I publish the movie I'm not getting any error message to point me in the right direction. Anybody know if there is some way to have Flash tell me where the error is? The weird thing is if I create a new flash document and just put stop(); in the actionpanel, I'm getting the same message.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Compiler Errors When Using Dynamic Text In A Class

Oct 17, 2009

I have created a MovieClip with a custom class that has a dynamic text field (called "textArea"), which I want to modify by the Component Inspector, as well as via a custom method using: textArea.text = newText;

It works fine in all cases and there are no problems, but the compiler still wants to give me the error: 1120: Access of undefined property textArea.

The error doesn't appear when I remove the component parameters (so that it's just a normal MovieClip). It still works, even with the error, so I'm not sure why it wants to complain. Am I doing something wrong or is it just being bitchy?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Getting Runtime Errrors When Compile The Movie With The New Compiler For Flash 7?

Dec 15, 2003

I have made multiple movies compiled in flash player 6.0 with AS 1.0. Now the problem is that when i compile the movie with the new compiler for Flash 7 under AS 1.0, there are a lot of runtime errors. There are no error messages, just screw ups during runtime. But if played with Flash Player 7, it works.

For example kirupa's volume control with slider doesn't work. So I am just wondering what script changes i need to make. I have tried declaring my variables and making them case sensitive. But there are still problems. I just need some generalizations on what I should do. For me compiling under 7.0 is enticing becuase of the speed enhancements for the 30% of ppl who do have the new player.
