I want to change the view states in my flex app when it resizes in the browser window.I have the swf embedded at 100% x 100%. So when the user resizes the window below a certain width, I want to switch to a different state. I tried adding an event listener like this, but it only fires the event when I resize the swf outside the browser, not inside. I used:
this.addEventListener(ResizeEvent.RESIZE, SizeChanged);
I want this to work within the browser. I even tried using fixed dimensions in the embed code, instead of percentages, but that didn't help either.

In mxml you declare states like this[code]...
How do you acheive the same in an ActionScript class? Apparently it's the same in Flex 3 and Flex 4, whatever it is.

I have a component that, once it's all ready, I need to set the state based on a variable I'm reading in from XML. I tried doing it with creationComplete, but it's apparently not ready, as the state isn't being set with elements rendering properly, but the states & rendering work fine if I do a subsequent state change with a click action on some element.
What should I do in this situation to make sure the state gets set at the right time & elements that should appear due to includeIn exist so they can be rendered? initialize instead of creationComplete doesn't seem to do the trick for the first time the component is created. Any successive calls to the component are fine.

I have been working on a button class and ran into a little bit of a snag.
Here is the class I created:
package
{
import flash.display.*;
import flash.events.*;
[Code]....
Now while this class is working, I can't seem to figure out how to make it so when you click on one button it makes sure all the other buttons are sent back to the offState. I am using _mc's for my buttons. I think I need to put my buttons into an array and keep track of them at way, but I'm not sure about how to do that. Would I be able to get this effect to work in this .as file or would i need to write another one to control the buttons and where they are in there states(up/down/over).

How can I add an MXML component as a child of the main application using ActionScript. It's not possible to instatiate it, is it? Assuming that behind every mxml file stands an actionscrpt3 class, I tried to import it but id didn't show up.

How can I Access Items Selected in a Component from the Main App I've got a component that has a listControl and a couple of RadioButtonGroups. I need to access the selected items in the main application. What's the best/simplest way to create and access the array of selected items. So, the user clicks the button to confirm the selections and then I need to access those selections in the main app. Is there a way I can use a public var to build the array? Another idea?

I have an event, which I have dispatched in my main.mxml:
var evt:UserEvent = new UserEvent(UserEvent.USERINFORMATION);
evt.userVO = storeObject;
this.dispatchEvent(evt);
I can listen for it while in my navigation.mxml file, by using
this.parentApplication.addEventListener(UserEvent.USERINFORMATION, onInfo);
But in other component, I can not listen for it, even trying the same as I did in navigation.mxml.
tracing it back gives me an undefined.
the second component is in a viewstack in navigation.

I have a main mxml file (flex4) and want to pass a parameter (user_name) to a component in a directory called components. When I run the program, the user_name is NOT being sent from the main to the component file. (Interestingly, if you make the component visible, you can see the parameter has been passed).
I have hacked much larger files down to get the following two files:
Main
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

I've used JRab's example here [URL]... to add a header menu to my app. What I'm having trouble with is executing my functions from the header mennu. For example, my firstView is appHome.mxml. It instantiates a Canvas object that has an erase(). There is a button in appHope.mxml that executes the erase() on the Canvas instance. I'm trying move the Erase button out of my appHome.mxml and into my headerMenu.mxml but don't know how to execute the erase() on the Canvas instance. The first thing I thought to try was click="{appHome.myCanvas.erase()}" but obviously that didn't work.
I asked a similar question yesterday here: Flex executing a function on another view and I accepted the answer before I tried it. The problem is that the headermenu.mxml is not a child of appHome.mxml. They are both children of the main app.mxml. Secondly, the object that has the erase() is in a separate .as class I instantiate in appHome.mxml.

I have a checkbox in a component:
<s:CheckBox id="myCB_1" />
In my main.mxml I need to test for the state of the checkbox. I originally had all my code in main.mxml, but it was getting really long, and I thought that it was better practice to break my code into components. Also, I have other projects where the same concept will apply.I have the following function :
private function checkAlarms(currentTime:Date):void
{
if (!breakfastAlarmSounded)[code]....
doesn't work. Someone mentioned that I need to create a variable in my component that refers to the id (myCB_1) of checkbox, but I don't really understand or know how to do that, and they didn't elaborate.How do I test for the status of the CheckBox "myCB_1" in the component from within my main.mxml?

I'm working in Flex 4.1, and I have a viewstack and tabbar as my main navigation. A user logs into the application and should then only be able to see what tabs are available to his user level.I am trying to stick with MXML as much as possible, since it works well with the framework. But I'm goin numb thinking about this. What are the common practices for doing this?FYI: the user level is slightly to complex for states. There are lots of options, way to many to comfortably do w/ states and state groups.
Chimp is a pretty cool library for those interested. It's a little old and there doesn't seem to be much motivation to expand it past UIComponents. So for my purposes it wont do.Again, what do you do for setting up these systems?PDATE: I had to compromise, but it actually worked out pretty well in the end. Instead of destructively laying on permissions (having everything available at first and removing the elements thereafter), the system now works constructively. Here's a sample:
[Bindable]
public var managePage:ManagePage;
[Bindable]

I'm trying to work out how to use states in my Flex app.I've created two states, State1 and Stage 2. Both are based off the base state. I've created a few visual elements for State1, and given each of them includeIn="State1".But when I'm in design mode and click on State2, these elements are still visible?If I try to delete them while State2 is selected, all that happens is RemoveChild is added to the State2 tag.
