Is there a better or 'correct' way without having to build a skin? It seems incredibly silly to build a skin for a 'Bordered' component when this is a very common use case.

Dec 16, 2010in FlashBuilder I want to dynamically generate approximately 1200 rectangles from a CSV file (these are all different colours) which will perform an action on Click.
What is the best way to go about doing this? I've read that the drawing API on Air and Android is not a good idea, and am thinking about using the Spark Rectangle class, but I can't seem to work out how to apply a colour to it if I'm generating them dynamically using AS?

Feb 11, 2010Is there an easy way to make a parent container (eg Group) resize when it's children resize?
Below is a little example app. When I put the 200x200 'food' in the 'stomach' the stomach & it's containing 100x100 'body' should resize to contain the food.

Flex :: Changing Spark TextArea Text Color Dynamically Over A Range Of Characters?
Dec 22, 2010I am attempting to dynamically change the color of a subset/portion of text in a Spark TextArea control. Using the MX-based TextArea, I could leverage the mx.controls.textClasses.TextRange type and change the color directly as follows:
TextRange tr = new TextRange(theTextAreaControl, false, beginIndex, endIndex);
tr.color = somePredefindColor;
Input Parameters to TextRange constructor:
1st argument: The TextArea control that will provide access to the underlying textField property
2nd argument: Indicates the TextRange will not modify the content of the TextArea
3rd argument: The beginning index position in the TextArea text string
4th argument: The ending index position in the TextArea text string
How would I go about doing this for a Spark-based TextArea control? I am looking to dynamically change the font color for a range of text, not just the entire TextArea AND I cannot statically specify the font color. The problem I run into when trying to re-use the TextRange type is that the 1st argument is expected to provide the textField property, which is currently not on the Spark-based TextArea control. I thought about extending the Spark-based TextArea control to provide this accessor property but that seems like overkill and is probably not the best approach.
Flex :: Toggle A Mask To A Group In Flex (works For BorderContainer)?

I would expect the mask to be applied when the checkbox is selected, and removed when it issin't. But it doesn't seem to work.However, when you change to , it works like a charm. Can anyone explain to me why?
Note: In my actual application, i'm applying this in a skin to a component that is extending SkinnableComponent which can't use BorderContainer so a solution to this would be great.
Flex Tree Expand And Collapse?
Oct 12, 2009I have created a tree with a custom treeitemrenderer where I have added a textinput box next to each label. My data provider is an ArrayCollection. When I enter value in the input box, I can see the value fine as I expand or collapse the tree using the disclousure arrow. There is a strange issue when I try to expand and collapse tree from the mxml page with a button click to expand and collapse tree using the following code.
The problem is as I expand or collapse tree, the values I entered in the input boxes appear to be moving.
For example, I have entered 15 in input box 1. When I expand and collapse tree, 15 moves to another input box, and moves to another, and then it moves back to where it was entered as I keep expanding and collapsing the tree. I am still learning Flex. I am not sure what is happening, it is something to do with arraycollection.

Sep 12, 2011I am searching for a way to have my spritevisualelement have round corners so that it is displayed in a circular shape.The SpriteVisualElement contains a Video Stream from FMS to display but I do not want it to be rectangular.[code] But the Container keeps being in the background and the whole remote Video which is displayed in the "vid" (=id) is in the foreground.How can I set the Container to be in Foreground? then just setting whole application background would do the job.

Aug 19, 2010I have an AdvancedDataGrid which Im attemping to update with data from a web service that I poll once very 10 seconds. Im using a HierarchicalData object to provide data to the grid. The update seems to work fine, except that on each update, any nodes that were expanded are collapsed when the grid is refreshed. Stranger still, when I dig down into the bowels of the thing and look at the contents of the HierarchicalCollectionView that backs the grid, I can see that the openNodes property correctly contains the nodes that I opened, but those nodes are not shown as open on the grid...the state seems inconsistent.

Flex - Access Children Of Children Recursively?
Mar 10, 2010I have a Canvas which has many components inside it and those again, have many components inside them.
getChildren() returns only the top level children. What is the best way to retrieve all the children (children of children of children and so on).
Well, I sorta know how to do this by iterating through the children, but the code is really messy. I'd prefer to use a nice recursive function. Has anyone written this before? Or is there a Util class to do this?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Dynamically Removing Children When Another Image Clicked
Oct 8, 2008I have 36 images in a movie clip. Inside of that movie clip there are 36 other movie clips containing one separate image. I have figured out how to click on them and add it to the stage. But I can figure out how to get them to remove when another image is clicked. (ex. I click on image 1 it will appear on stage but when I click image 2 it show image 2 on top of image 1.) the thing is I don't want to have to click on the images in order. If any image is clicked the one showing on stage will automatically disappear.

I have this and I am trying to make a variable from the contents of the input box. Simple ya? The issue is that it is a child of another clip that is being added dynamically, so it doesn't think the input exists. How do I declare the input? How can I target it's contents? Also I have a remove function that is meant to remove this same parent clip.

'saver' is a variable created in another function, so I think there is a scope issue there. To try to fix that I declared 'saver' as a movie clip as a global var.
