I'm using flex 4.1 to write an application and I was wondering how can I configure that whenever I try to load an image and the link is broken it will show a different image that i have embedded into my application.

I have the following code to display the swf object on the page. It works well in all browsers. However, if shockwave flash turned off in Firefox, it won't fallback into image and show bunch of characters instead looking like "CWS..." All other browsers fallback to the image. I verified that we serve application/x-shockwave-flash MIME type on our server.

If for some reason (nice way of saying the people maintaining this are not computer peeps and prolly will name things poorly, or forget to upload or something). if for some reason it cannot find a thumbnail, is there anyway to make flash use a default thumbnail image in its place?

Problem is that when people go to a site and they don't have Flash and can't install it (ie: iPhone), they can't see phone numbers, address etc. which is why that came there. It would sure easier to push Flash if there was a way to have an alternate image to view.

View 1 RepliesI've just finished a flash projector for my company's lobby that displays all members of the staff in a dynamically generated grid with a page for each department. Flash reads an xml file generated from our Active Directory using php.
I've just discovered a bug. We have several employees that don't wish to have their images displayed; the autogenerated path to their images are therefore false. When the screen loads, a blank space appears where the movieclip is supposed to load.
How do I detect that the image link is bad (must be simple as flash gives out debug errors)? I would like to load an alternate image for staff with missing images.
Here's a snippet of where the movie clips are generated:

And I would like to be warned when I try to serialize a strongly-typed object which does not have a [RemoteClass] set (because that almost certainly represents a bug in my code).So, is there any way to configure the AMF serializer to give warnings?Also, it seems like this might be possible using services-config.xml... But the documentation seems to imply that services-config is channel-level, and I'd really like it if my unit tests could run without talking to the server (and I'm not using LCDS, so a bunch of the services-config wouldn't apply to me anyway).
I would like to know how to configure the flex crossdomain.xml in tipfy with the Google app engine skd. Tipfy is a framework using in Gae. I would like to know: where I can place the crossdomain.xml, in the root or other place, do I need script to redirect to the xml, what files that I need to modify, eg. app.yaml. I'm trying to configure BlazeDS to work over HTTPS. We've got Apache in the front that is set to redirect all http traffic to https. Apache then communicates with the application (a JBoss AS 5.1) via http. I've tried a lot of configurations for BlazeDS, and finally the following solution worked for me:

The thing here is that in my-secure-amf channel, I use mx.messaging.channels.SecureAMFChannel in the channel-definition, and flex.messaging.endpoints.AMFEndpoint (not flex.messaging.endpoints.SecureAMFEndpoint). This has probably something with the Apache-Jboss setup to do, but I haven't found anything that explains what the different tags actually define. To get some sense in all of this, what happens when defining channels and endpoint, using different urls and classes?
I know that httpService in Flex can configure the data as an object, but I want to do the same thing, but with URLLoader. Is that possible and how would I do it?

After completing building a flex project in Flash Builder 4.5, the project was exported using the File -> Export Flash Builder Project. After which some of the images stopped working (get the broken image icon).
View 2 RepliesI'm trying to write my flex application so that it restores the user's settings when it starts up. The application has 3 data grids (only one is visible [on screen] at any time) and I simply save the state of the grids if the user ever does any resize events.Saving the state works perfectly, the problem comes when restoring. It seems that only the visible data grid gets restored properly. On all the other grids, the widths are all wrong and do not match the settings I restored from.
The problem is that, when the application starts, the data grids are not sized correctly. Each data grid takes up the full screen, but initially they are only given a very small size (ie. 200 width).Is there some way to force the data grid to resize properly when it is created? Or is it possible to know when the data grid is "maximized" I don't want to hook up to the resize event - if possible - because I would get that quite frequently, and I only want to restore the settings once.Here's the code I'm using to restore the column widths:

The settings are saved into a database (the flex proejct is connected to JBoss). I simply save a CSV type thing with the column's name and it's width. I can't put my resize stuff in the creationComplete handler because I end up with the same problem. The grid's size is like 50 right after it's created (it should be like 1000, 100% of the page width) -- and then I go to set the sizes of the columns (which are obviously > 50) and the resize does nothing
In my application I'm using a custom embedded font for English (Helvetica New) which does not contain characters (glyphs) for chinese unicode range. In the application, wherver chinese characters are avaiable they are not displayed (suppressed) since they are missing in the custom embedded font. How can I make the flash player to use a fallback system font for the missing characters? And the fallback should be for the missing characters alone. For the Engligh characters it should use the embedded font.

1) how do i configure flex to publish to firefox rather than internet explorer?
2) is it possible to publish to the standalone flash player without bothering with a browser ...as you can do in the Flash IDE ?
I have a simple application which uses a RichTextEditor with a colored background, like so:

This works fine when I compile against Flex 3.5.0, but in Flex 4.0 and 4.5, the background color remains white. I've tried setting it before the text, after the text, before and after it is added to the stage - even every single frame with an EnterFrame handler. Nothing - it just stays white.
Has anyone else encountered this and does anyone have a workaround? I don't really want to switch to a Spark component if I can help it, and I can't downgrade the whole application to 3.5.

I have a datagrid with different types of columns, like I have checkboxes, combo boxes and text Inputs as the column types. Now I want one of the column type to a link, with the label "view". All the rows in that column are link with the same label "View" and on clicking it, I want a Pop up window to be opened?

I didn't know how to bring a link in the datagrid. So used the Text control to display the "View" label. Now If I click this item, "View" in the datagrid, I want the Pop up function, i.e.,defectCommentsPopUp() to be called.
I have created a flex application in the Python Gae sdk and I got the error 2048, so I put a crossdomain.xml under the static folder.
The crossdomain.xml is following:
