I am trying to extend the TextItem class in Flex 4 but I keep getting the following error:
Could not resolve <custom:txtIdNumber> to a component implementation.
My txtIdNumber.as is as follows
package custom {
import spark.components.TextInput;
public class txtIdNumber extends TextInput {
public function txtIdNumber(){
super();
[Code] .....
Initially I thought that I might be extending the class in the wrong way, but all the examples I found look the same.
Whats wrong with this Flex MXML code? I'm getting error messages (error lines marked with "X"). Code is very simple but I cannot find the error.Message both times: multiple initalisation values for standard property "text" of type "string" (translated from german)[code]
View 2 RepliesI don't how to describe the situation in short, so I am going to describe it in details.
I have created a class, extended from MovieClip. It looks like this:
// Libraries are imported
public class WindowObject extends MovieClip {
public function WindowObject():void {
dragArea_mc.addEventListener(...);
[Code]...
When I clicked on the errors, they redirected me to the WindowObject class.If I don't create new classes, but just write the additional functions on the MovieClip directly, and set back the base class to be WindowObject, it works fine again.
I am receiving the following compile time error when attempting to extend the SimpleButton class in AS3:
1017: the definition of base class SimpleButton was not found
and the code:
package com.shakti.gameState{
import flash.display.SimpleButton.SimpleButton;
public class buttonTile extends SimpleButton {
public var id:int;
[Code]...
I made a custom event, but was getting this runtime error: TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert flash.events::Event@1498f491 to com.esidegallery.net.BatchLoaderEvent. and eventually found what I thought was the the answer here - [URL] I made the necessary changes, but I'm still getting the same error! It's just a batch loader that dispatches a custom event for every item that loads, with its LoaderInfo object attached. Here's the event code:

when extending a flex component and trying to use it, I get a RTE. I.e. I am extending a DataCanvas and am using it like this:
<MyComponent dataProvider="{dataProvider}" width="100%" height="100%" x="0" y="0" id="dc" verticalCenter="0" horizontalCenter="0" />
Has anyone seen this? How can I get around it?

My current requirement: I have menubar with 3 different button types. Skin structure is simple: one label and two state graphics. So my base skin have label, and in overridden i want add two images. But flex docs states that overriding of skin is not preferred. I try override override public function addElementAt(element:IVisualElement, index:int):IVisualElement for adding new subcomponents to custom container sdk using it but my view is blank. Does skins are really not overridable? My current code:
<s:ButtonBar skinClass="MenuSkin" dataProvider="{content}" />
in MenuSkin:
...
<fx:Component id="firstButton">
[code]....
and next 2 skins have repeated <s:Label/> part. As label should look the same, naturally i want extend base skin class but it is no possible form me. First problem: if i add image in mxml it overlaps label.
I'm creating a class that extends another class.
public class ASClass extends UIComponent{
}
but I'm trying to make it extend multiple classes. Is this somehow possible? I read it may be possible through composition?
I extended the DataGridColumn because I wanted to include a custom itemToLabel function (to be able to show nested data in the DataGrid. See this question.
Anyways, it also needs a custom sorting function. So I have written the sorting function like so:
private function mySortCompareFunction(obj1:Object, obj2:Object):int{
var currentData1:Object = obj1;
var currentData2:Object = obj2;
[Code].....
Whenever I try to sort the column, I get the error "Error: Find criteria must contain at least one sort field value."
When I debug and step through each step, I see that the first few times, the function is being called correctly, but towards the end, this error occurs.
I want to extend the FileReference class of Flex to contain a custom property. I want to do this because AS3 doesn't let me pass arguments to functions through event listeners, which makes me feel sad, so I need this property to exist on the event target, so I can access it.I also want to be able to cast extant FileReference objects to this class without any fuss. I have:var fr:SmxFR = e.target as SmxFR and I want that to work; right now it just returns null.A blank, newly instantiated SmxFR object has the extended property in place, but all of its inherited properties and objects return Error: Error #2037: Functions called in incorrect sequence, or earlier call was unsuccessful.[code]I get living handle property from that, and all other (that is, inherited) properties throw Error #2037.So, maybe what I want to do is going to require overriding FileReferenceList? If the original objects must be instantiated to SxmFR, that's what I'll have to do, since I'm using FRL to allow the user to select multiple files at once. Are you guys sure there is no way to fast from a FileReference to my class?
View 3 RepliesExtendedDateChooser class is great solution for simple event calendar used in my flex project. You can find it if google for "Adding-Calendar-Event-Entries-to-the-Flex-DateChooser-Component" with a link of updated solution in comments of the post. I posted files below. Problem in that calendar is text events are missing when month is changed. Is there updateCompleted event in Actionscript just like in dateChooser flex component? Like in:

I'd like to extend the standard DataGrid component in flex with mxml. But I want to add buttons to the bottom of the component. I've tried attempting the following but its not working...Am I adding the Button to the wrong element?
<mx:DataGrid xmlns:fx = "http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
xmlns:mx = "library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx"
xmlns:s = "library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark">[code]............
I want to extend DropDownList control to include an option for creating or editing the options. For example; for a list of projects in the dropdown list, there will be another option that says "Create new project..." or "Edit projects..." and this will be the last option in the list. When user selects this option, the selectedIndex or selectedItem will not change and corresponding action will be taken (for example a popup window shows up).This will be a convenient way for the end user. Now I want this to work independent of the context and the class must be reusable. User will only specify the optionText and optionFunction to work this out. The basic structure of the class looks like this:
public class OptiveDropDownList extends DropDownList
{
private var _enableOption:Boolean;
[code].....
In my Flex 4.6 web application I use mainly spark components, but there is also an mx-component - a PopUpButton extended by me (the source code is below).Users report problems with that button, but I can't reproduce any - since weeks.
I've tried replacing mx:Menu attached to it by a s:List but it hasn't changed anything. I suspect there is a "null pointer exception" or some other failure, that I don't hit when testing myself...
My question is: why does Flash Builder reports warning about my custom button as if its methods would be private or not present?
My main App.mxml:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<s:Application
xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark"
[code]....
How do you display data on a LineChart that cuts off where there is no more data? For example, if I am showing a chart of company revenue for 2010, the chart should only show up to July now (with August and forward on showing no data). This would make the line in the line chart break and dissappear off at about midway through the year.
View 1 RepliesI am following this page to create a custom preloader extending Sprite to load an animation SWF, but it is not working (the animation SWF is not displaying): [URL]. I know the Animation.swf file is okay, because if I load it into the main app it displays and runs. The preloader works if an image is loaded by the preloader instead of the animation SWF.
test.mxml (main app)
BTW, I typically have many more lines of ComboBox in the app to force the preloader to display, but limiting number of lines here.
CustomPreloaders.SparkAnimationProgressBar.as
package customPreloaders {
import flash.display.;
import flash.events.;
import flash.net.;
import flash.utils.;

I'm extending the Flex 3 panel component. I need to figure out the width of the title's text. Because, title is a private variable in panel, I can't access it via title.width.I know the font, fontsize (14), and length of the title (which will vary). Knowing this info is there a way to calculate how many pixels wide the title is?
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to create a base class for components by extending Group in Flex 4, but I can't seem to define the layout through MXML. Any time I try to move the definition to a subclass of my base component, I get the following error:
Error: Could not resolve <s:layout> to a component implementation.
Judging by that error, it seems that some magic from the framework's side goes into assigning it for a Group and thus the compiler fails when trying to assign it for any other classes. Does anyone know how this is supposed to work? how to allow me to define it in subclasses?
What I'd like to do: create an MXML component with some children, then extend it via MXML to create a new component with more children, without losing the original set.In other words
create a component bc.mxml
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<s:BorderContainer xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009"
[code].....
I have a component with a public variable declared
[Bindable]
public var mnuSource:String;
When I extend this component, I can reference mnuSource (it compiles) but Runtime complains about the property not being accessible (error 1056).
How do you modify / declare component properties so they are actually available to other components?
I've been trying to create a custom mxml component that extends another custom mxml component (i.e.MyMXMLComponent -> BaseMXMLComponent -> Group). I've been reading that trying to add visual children to MyMXMLComponent caused error with Flex 3 but that's no longer the case with Flex 4.
What I want to know is whether this is a supported/fixed/documented feature of Flex 4? or just some undefined behavior in Flex 4 that may get changed with future updates?
if this is supported and documented feature, does anyone have link pointing to adobe document stating it as such?
I'm working on a Flex application that processes and displays small amounts of HTML, sometimes including images. I'm getting the HTML out of third-party RSS feeds. Sometimes, I see this in a pop-up window: Error #2044: Unhandled IOErrorEvent:. text=Error #2035: URL Not Found.
The RSS URL is just fine, but there's apparently something in the downloaded HTML that's causing a problem. Since the application is meant to run as part of a non-interactive digital sign, anything that requires a click to continue is completely unacceptable. I don't care how useless or malformed a URL is; the app needs to ignore the problem without pestering the user.
Unfortunately, I'm having no luck trapping this event. I'm sprinkling calls like this liberally through the code: [object].addEventListener(IOErrorEvent.IO_ERROR, handleIOError); where [object] is everything from the mx:Text object rendering the HTML to its mx:Canvas parent to the mx:Application top-level app, and handleIOError is a simple function that looks like this:
[CODE]....
I am not an expert in flash, but I do work with AS and tweak Flash projects, though not having deep expertise in it. Currently I need to revamp a flash website done by one another guy, and the code base given to me, upon execution is throwing the following error: TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at NewSite_fla::MainTimeline/__setProp_ContactOutP1_ContactOut_Contents_0() at NewSite_fla::MainTimeline/frame1()

This error has been faced by many people, as seen via internet, but none of the solutions given worked for me.
Problem:I have a flex application which I am trying to run on a Linux machine. On Ubuntu, it works fine but on Fedora following error arises when a login button is clicked.
text="Error #2032: Stream Error. URL: http://192.168.1.115/flexApp/utils/db_mgmt.php"].
Details:Login button actually sends username and password entered by a user to a server deployed on same machine via HTTPService. That HTTPService actually sends data to db_mgmt.php on the server which takes care of authorization of the user by querying mysql database deployed on same machine.

I wrote a flex demo, customized spark TextInput skin with rounded corners and a search icon in it, like mac os x search box, it's running good in browsers (by Flash Player browser plug-in) either .html or .swf, but error by flash player directly.

hey im trying to make a mp3 player and when u click on a play btn it plays that song. but i keep getting this output error "Error #2044: Unhandled IOErrorEvent:. text=Error #2032: Stream Error.

this is my code
ActionScript Code:
import fl.transitions.Tween;
import fl.transitions.easing.*;
var slidebind:Rectangle = new Rectangle(3, 3, 159, 0);
var loadsnd:URLRequest = new URLRequest ("s1.mp3");
var thissnd:Sound = new Sound();

I have an asset management system which loads a bunch of external swfs, and when requested distributes copies of those swfs to other parts of an app (it creates instances of the classes to do this).Anyway, when I use these loaded swfs somewhere and then remove them Flash does its trick of leaving the sounds running (as they are triggered by timers).If they were Loader class items I could use .unloadAndStop() to shut them up and get them garbage collected, but they aren't of course.I thought I might be able to extend the Loader class and set the .content my self - which I have done by overiding the content getter in Loader. I was hoping I could then use unloadAndStop on that class but nothing happens. I've tried casting my fake Loader to a Loader as well and no joy.
