Flex :: Handling Timezone Offset?

I've developed an FLEX application for distributed data administration. When our Asian employees specify a date, it will be saved +1 day.If I check my timezone offset it is +60, their offset is +520.

trace("Your time zone offset: " + dNow.getTimezoneOffset() + " minutes");
I assume this is the problem? If so, would you suggest that I correct the entered date by 460 minutes before sending it to our server for saving? How to do that?

I have a countdown timer that will be used for events that happen locally central time, mountain time, etc. However, if someone on eastern or pacific time (or any variation of the 4 timezones) looks at the countdown timer, I want to make sure that it shows the time relative to their timezone.I thought i could read the user's timezone offset (Date.getTimezoneOffset) and subtract from it the hardcoded timezone offset of the event (passed as a variable from XML depending on the event's "primary" timezone).
Am I getting the math here wrong? The "net" timezone offset from the user - the event timezone offsets SHOULD add into the countdown time.However, Date.getTimezoneOffset, regardless of my Mac or PC timezone setting/time, keeps showing an Eastern timezone offset of 5 hours. What's going on?The time is correct when I hardcode an event timezone offset to anything other than Eastern time. I think the problem is that it's not getting a user timezone offset OTHER than -5 hours for Eastern Time.Code for the timer is here (assume that the target event timezone has been passed in):

I'm working with an AreaSeries + DateTimeAxis in Flex 4. The dates for the time axis originate from a server in another time zone. I'd like to see the graph (in my local time zone) displayed using the server's time zone.I know that I can set the DateTimeAxis.displayLocalTime property to true or false, to have dates displayed in the local or UTC time zone. But the time zone I want is neither of those.Is there a simple way to make DateTimeAxis work with another time zone? Or even a complicated way?

I have a requierement in my project that i need to store 'US/Eastern EST' and day light saving 'US/Eastern EDT' in data base if client machine is in US/Eastern time zone. Because this gives clear identification instead of justing the chars like 'EST'. There is CDT in US region as well as Chaina too so can't relay just on three chars like 'EST'/'EDT'.

I've ran into a weird problem with getCharBoundaries, I could not figure out what coordinate space the coordinates returned from the function was in. What ever I tried I could not get it to match up with what I expected. So I made a new project and and added simple code to highlight the last charater in a textfield, and all of a sudden it worked fine. I then tried to copy over the TextField that had been causing me problems, into the new project. And now the same weird offset appeared 50px on the x axis.Everything else was spot on. So after some headscracthing comparing the two TextFields, I simply can not see a difference in their properties or transformation.
So I was hoping that someone might now what property might affect the coordinates returned by getCharBoundaries.

I have some images I would like to display in TileList in Flex. My TileList dimensions are 2 columns by n rows. What I want to do is to display the first item (row 1, column 1) empty and not clickable, and to start displaying my items from row 1, column 2.I also wonder when I create click event for the same TileList, is there a way get an index of clicked element?

I have a simple Flex (Flash Builder) application which pops up a new window when a user clicks on a map. The user can make subsequent clicks on the map to have additional pop up windows appear, each of which currently pop up on top of the initial/previous pop up window(s) (i.e. at the same X and Y position). I want to modify the application in such a way that each new pop up window will be rendered slightly offset from the previous pop up window. A coworker has suggested I try to find a way to leverage existing window cascading functionality in Flex, but so far I've not found anything which can manage this for you. Is there such a solution cooked into Flex already, or should I roll my own by calculating the new pop up window's X and Y position based on the last pop up window's X and Y position?

Am facing issue with session timeout. Say for instance, the user logs into the application and he waits for 30 mins (session timeout time) and then tries to get a service through remote object.Ideally speaking, since the session has timeout the user shouldn't be able to hit the remote object, but this is happening the other way round.

I am trying to send the time to flash but set to the currently timezone. When you view the below even though the echo date, looks like its working the $time is the same. When i test in flash I get the extra hour added.

I need to pass my Date information to a webservice in the following Format:

But Flash returns me the date object as below format:

Is there anyway I can modify the date object to hold the datetime as in the format below ,i.e:

I'd like to arrange things so that I have a chain of keyboard event handlers in my flex application, all of whom are queried when key down events occur. Basically, when a visual component is on screen, it is a candidate for handling a key press event. Something like this (clearly this is pseudocode):

Also, note that there are some situations where this class should receive events that would ordinarily be handled by a UI component. The TAB key is the main example; I have a few cases where I want my key down event handler to fire even when the focus is on a text field.

We have a Flex client and a server that is using the Spring/Blazeds project. After the user logs in and is authenticated, the spring security layer sends a redirect to a new URL which is where our main application is located. However, within the flex client, I'm currently using HTTPService for the initial request and I get the redirected page sent back to me in its entirety. How can I just get the URL so that I can use navigatetourl to get where the app to go where it needs to?

What i must know is how to make a normal flash clock show the time of a specific world time zone, i know that they work from -5 , -4 ... 0 ... +1 , +2 ... .

I have an ArrayCollection bound to a view, I use a filterFunction on this view to only display parts of the contents. Additionally I have another component where I want to display other parts of the ArrayCollection.
What I would like to do is wrap ArrayCollections around each other, meaning I could have one ArrayCollection containing the model data, and then two separate outer ones where I can set the filterFunction property (setting this in the model seems inappropriate in all cases). Is this possible somehow? If not, how else can this be solved, preferably without forcing model logic to end up in my view?

I have couple of questions about AS3 variables handling by AVM/compiler/scope .1. This code in Flash will throw an error:

but it won`t throw an error in Flex (only warning in Editor). Why?.2. How Flash sees variables in loops? Apparently this:

isn`t equal to just: var mc:MovieClip=new MovieClip(); var mc:MovieClip=new MovieClip(); because it will throw an error again as earlier in Flash, but in Flex in function not? Is Flash changing somehow my loop before compilation?

I am developing an AIR app. In the main app I have a module loader 'mainModuleLoader'. I am creating modules as separate mxml files using the <mx:Module> tag. And I am loading such a module in mainModuleLoader dynamically using actionscript. Everything works fine.For the module which I am creating as mxml files, I would like to know how to add an unload event handler. So that, whenever I call mainModuleLoader.unload(), the unload event hander is triggered from inside the module.mxml. I have tried the following without any success.

<mx:Module creatingComplete="init()" remove="unloadHandler()"/>
The problem with the second statement above is that it triggers the unloadHandler even if some child is removed inside the module. I have also tried to add the following in the action script.

I'm trying to use the new(ish) AS3 global error handling class. I am trying to use it within a Flex mxml application. I can't get it to work at all. Below is an entire program that shows the problem. I set this to use Flash Player 10.2 and compiled with the Flex 4.5 SDK. I've tried using Flex SDK 4.0 and 4.5 but I get the error in either case. I must be missing something obvious here. This is a normal Flex SWF file that will be shown on a web page. Assuming I could import the UncaughtErrorEvent, I would then do something like this to setup the event handler:

I've noticed BlazeDS has certain things it does not support and it is often difficult to find this out. Ex: polymorphism is not.One must create methods with different names as methods with the same name with different parameters create a conflict.I'm trying to find out if BlazeDS does not support Java static and non-static inner classes.

The example code above will compile and the getUser method will work. A call to the updateUser or updatePhone methods on the other hand results in a BlazeDS error. Is there a special way to use inner classes in Flex or are inner classes not supported?

Is it possible to create a countdown timer (dd:hh:mm:ss) to 12am central time on the front end only?
So users in all timezones would get a clock that is counting down using central time rather than their current computer time?
I'm trying to do this without using backend scripts, but I'm not sure if its possible.

I have a couple of remote object methods that I want to respond to in different ways depending on the context, but I'd rather not set up a bunch of different RemoteObject aliases.Some background: Let's say I have an admin application that displays sales stats in different ways. The remote method looks like:

I'd like to pass something through the remote method to the responding function, like:

I made a Form container with few TextInput fields in Flex and I would like to change a style of clicked TextInput element. I managed to do it with MouseEvent.CLICK event listener but it is not what I expected. I would like to change style of TextInput when user try to edit that field. However, I want to change back to 'default' style when user clicks another TextInput field or outside any field. Is there some event listener made specific for such interactions? I have also a question, is it possible to make width of TextInput depending on amount of text? I mean to resize it to width of text inside of it? Text comes from some database and is always different widths...

I'm using Flex 4(beta2) with Ruby on Rails 2.3.5 and using RubyAMF to transfer data back and forth between Flex and server. set up Authlogic on the Rails side for authentication. wasn't sure what's the best method to handle user sessions. I know this is done automatically with Rails by sending session id with cookie which Rails use to authenticate the user.What do you suggest the best way to do this with Flex?I thought of couple of options:1. Manually fetching the cookie from the browser and then figuring our a way to send that to the server with every request I send. 2. I am trying to listen to an event created in a spark popup tileWindow. The aim is to get an array sent and updated in the popUp, to be received by the calling application, when the popUp is closed. I'm trying to override the default handling of the 'up' and 'down' keys for an editable list, such that when they are pressed a list entry that is being edited behaves as if the escape key has been pressed, but the 'selected item bar' moves up or down.
Here is my (simplified) component:

For some reason this doesn't work: if a row is being edited, the first 'up' (or down) keypress ends the edit and moves the bar. Further up or down keypresses have no effect, but if you click somewhere near the list it does start working. This makes me think it is a focus issue. Weirdly, if you hit escape the edit finishes and you can move up and down correctly. If the 'callLater' line is uncommented to try and make the list retain focus, the bar initially moves in the direction of the keypress but then moves back again and re-edits the original line!
