I have to create a custom header for the AdvancedDataGrid component. The custom header must have two buttons in it. The custom renderer must be applied to more than one column.
How I can fire, dispatch and handle events from the custom headers?
I've gotten a checkbox header renderer to work well with flat DPs, but a hierarchical collection view is another story. On click, I want it to select all checkboxes in a given column. Here is my code:

I'm having a really annoying problem styling the AdvancedDataGrid header text colors. With a regular DataGrid you can use a property called "headerStyleName" to set the color of the header text. According to the documentation this style is applicable to AdvancedDataGrid as well.Url..Here is a sample app that will show you what I'm talking about. View 1 RepliesI have prepared a simple test case for a PopUpButton opening a TileList with black and red entries and it mostly works, but has 2 annoyances. I've searched a lot, tried several variants (added [Bindable] members in my renderer; added color member to the bids array; created my public override set data() method; ...) and has been getting some answers too, but they are way too general.
1) Scrolling "tl2" right-left doesn't work well: the entries are displayed in a mix of red and black. I know the TileList reuses itemRenderer, but how do I fix the problem?
2) In debug-mode I get numerous warnings: warning: unable to bind to property 'label' on class 'Object' (class is not an IEventDispatcher)

I'm having the following problem: I've implemented a custom headRenderer for my DataGridColumn. The idea is to have a dropdown menu when clicked on the column header. The problem is I don't know how to add a listener or pass a variable to the renderer since the renderer class is instantiated by the ClassFactory.

I have created a custom item renderer for the tree, i have added some children in create children function, my problem is that sometimes i need to show these children and sometimes i don't, depending on clicking on a button which also i have added at create children, the problem is that i had to create the item even if i don't want it to be visible, and removed it by making visible false, and this costs a lot of memory, i have tried to create it at buttons click listener but when scrolling the child disappears, and it may appear again if i keep scrolling up and down.. i am trying to add the child just when i need it to be visible, is this possible or i have to create it on child creation method?

I'm using Flex 4.5, my ItemRenderer is already very optimized, using as little nesting as possible, fxg and so on.
Is anyone having similar issues? I've tried almost everything in the book bar going back to mx.
I'd like to implement a custom drag on an AdvancedDataGrid tree structure, which only allows the drag on the branches (not leaves).I'm having much difficultly with this, trying to use the MouseDown event, but not having luck! Instead, I would like to display an icon / image or my own custom item renderer during the drag and drop.

View 1 RepliesI want to persist the AdvancedDataGrid column order for the user if they move them around and close the window or log out. I have code (see below) that works when I place the code in a grid parent container - eg, a title window. I'd like to generalise the functionality by placing the code in an AdvancedDatagrid subclass rather than each grid container so that all my grids have access to a single location when saving/loading their choices. My approach is to store the datafield names and grid name in an array and save/read to/from the shared object. and update the column order based on that order. The invaldation fails when I use the code in the Advanced Datagrid subclass but works fine in the grid parent.

My exception extends Exception and it has a attribute with the needed info for the client. Well, my problem is the following: when I build my exception if I invoke super() or super("message") the flex client can access all the info properly. But if I build the exception with a Throwable cause, super(cause), then the flex client can only access to stackTrace.

I use a flex mx:datagrid. I can set the headerBackgroundSkin to specify a skin or a picture to be displayed in all datagrid column's headers and it works just fine !
The problem is I can't find any way to specify a custom skin for the currently sorted column (doesn't matter if the sort is asc or desc, this is just to show the user which column is currently sorted).
I also tried to create a custom headerRenderer for each column but it is quite complicated and doesn't work very well.
I have been looking for the solution for a while but I can't find a good approach to do it. It sounds like a very basic need for me...incredible it is so complicated to achieve with Flex !!

I have an AdvancedDataGrid tree with a ArrayCollection as its dataprovider. Now, for instance, i drag a leaf from one node to another node. To catch the event I'm adding a Listener to dragComplete.

My Problem: I want to know the new node where the leaf was dropped. Actually i would have expected that in the event there is a property like dropParent. This is not the case.

I'm trapping keyboard events on the stage and dispatching custom events through a framework (Mate, though I don't know that this is an important issue), but I'm pretty confused by the scope. The structure is:application (traps keyboard events and dispatches custom event mainPanel (receives dispatched events but mainCalendar (a child element) is null on debugging. Obviously if I try to call a public method on mainCalendar it errors out, even though it's a child of mainPanel. However, mainCalendar is NOT null IF I use FlexGlobals.topLevelApplication.mainPanel.mainCalendar. Outerdocument and parentDocument do not expose mainCalendar either, BTW mainCalendar (a custom component inside mainPanel with public methods. Creation policy is 'all' and it's visible and exists long before I trap any keystrokes at the top level)Could someone take a minute and explain why the mainCalendar is out of scope when mainPanel receives a custom event, even though mainCalendar is a child of mainPanel. Is there a better way to manage the events so I don't have to always address the component via the topLevelApplication?

The "Hello" Alert is displayed only at a particular point and guess is, at the point, (175,150) the x, y co-ordinates of the circle. But shouldn't it be displayed wherever I click on the MyCircle component?? how to enable it in that way?
Also the mouseDown function doesn't work for MyCircle,but if have the event for the VBox, the Alerts are displayed.
Basically I am trying to create a string Validator which requests a new language from its controller by dispatching an event upon its creation.
The example below is a straight copy from the Flex3 component explorer - the only diffrence being that I have created the validator as a custom component which dispatches an event upon its creation.
The problem is that my main Application cannot hear the event being dispatched and I don't know why.
