Flex :: Determine Which Path Element Clicked In FXG File?

Oct 17, 2011

I am working on a sample map application using Flex 4/fxg? Now I have got FXG paths held in Group elements with id's( I have assigned path's id's to the corresponding group container)? But when I click anywhere in the map, I do not get the clicked group as target/currentTarget in event handler. How to determine which element is clicked?

Actionscript 3 :: Determine The Index Of An Element In Array That Has Been Clicked?

Jan 3, 2012

Say, I have an array of movie clips (dummies). Each dummy has an event listener and reacts to clicks. And when a dummy is clicked, I want to know the index of the clicked dummy.

I've only come up with this solution: run through the whole array of dummies and find out which dummy is the target, then exit the 'for' cycle and assign some global variable the value of counter variable, but this way the application I am building will demontsrate poor performance.

Actionscript 3 :: Flex - Select DOM-element Of HTML-control And Forward Its DOM-path To Method?

Oct 13, 2011

Suppose, that I need to have a HTML control inside my Flex/AIR app. The user should be able to click somewhere into the currently rendered HTML-page and the flex app should know, which DOM element the user clicked. Ideally, the app would be able to retrieve the DOM path of the selected element. Posting back the innermost surrounding DIV-element to some Flex/AIR method would be fine too.

Actionscript :: Get Index In An Array Of A Clicked Element In It?

Aug 10, 2011

I'm trying to create a virtual keyboard.

I have a class VirtualKeyboard which contains an array called keyboard of 26 movieclips, each one representing a letter.

In the main class, I create an object of the class VirtualKeyboard and added an eventlistener on it when a letter is clicked.[code]...

But the index always returns the value 4294967295.

How can I know which letter was clicked, I mean the index in the keyboard array corresponding to that letter?

The same code is working correctly if I put it in the VirtualKeyboard class, but not from the main class.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Identifying A Clicked Element From MouseEvent?

Dec 9, 2009

I have several array element each assigned to different symbols on the stage and now I have assigned one function (fcn1) for each element's MOUSE_OVER event as follows:.

for(h = 0; h < fields.length; h++)
{
fields[h].addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, fcn1);

[code]....

Now in fcn1, I have to identify which element the mouse was over it. I could not do this because I can't pass any parameter to fcn1 other than e:MouseEvent. And I tried to look the properties and methods of e:MouseEvent that might give any information about the source element (in this case, array elements).So far, only way out of this was I create function for each array element which in turn call fcn1 with appropriate parameter, but it is cluttery.

Flex :: Debugging - I Added Class Directory Via Flex Build Path/Source Path, And Now 'building Workspace' Takes Forever

I am coming from flash to flashbuilder I have a directory, AS3_classes_dir, on my computer that stores all of my classes, including my greensock and papervision packages. In every flash app that I make I include that directory in the Source Path, so that I can import whatever I may need. Compiling in flash (using ctrl/enter) takes very little time; only the classes that are specifically imported are compiled.So today I did that in flashbuilder, included AS3_classes_dir via Flex Build Path/Source Path ... but now the compile time are a couple of minutes, even though I am not even importing ANY of the classes from within.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Target Path To Movie Clip Element Of A Button?

Jul 16, 2004

I'm trying to figure out how to use AS to access frames of a movie clip within a button symbol (using Flash MX 2004), and I seem to be stuck. I drafted a small test version of the FLA I'm working on, and it is attached to this message.

Specifically, my intention is to have a two-state button that goes into "selected mode" after the first mouse click, and then goes back to normal after a 2nd click. I can already handle the functional aspect of this using a global boolean like the one in the attached file. The problem is that I want to represent the current status of the button with a visual change; in the attached example FLA, the intention was to change the color of the text label on this button from grey to red when the button is in its "selected" state.

In this forum I found a similar question where someone had provided a "menu.fla" that had a row of buttons that acted more or less like a radio set, which is somewhat similar to my need. I've been trying to use the same sort of method, having converted the "up" state of the button text into a movie clip symbol with two frames (one for each state), and then trying to use AS to do a "gotoAndStop()" on the desired frame of the up label animation. The problem is that I cannot figure out how to actually make this work ... no matter what sort of path I try to use to get to the movie clip animation within the button, I cannot seem to set the text animation to jump to the "selected" frame (2).

I think my problem is that I've been unable to glean any understanding from the Flash MX docs about the differences between an object name and a symbol name and an identifier and an instance name and a blah blah blah, or about which of them (if any) actually is an ID that can be accessed via ActionScript. Also, MX 2004 seems to provide almost no compile-time error checking on the validity of a target path either, so I've been reduced to just throwing every combination at it that I can think of. None have worked, so I'm at a loss.

If anyone can explain to me why the attached FLA doesn't cause the text to stay red after a mouse click, no matter which of the commented out lines I try, it would undoubtedly be a big help to me.

(Please note that the button in this FLA uses a basic flashing animation for mouseovers ... it was just something quick to implement to emulate the mouseover animation in my full file, so please don't be distracted by it. Also note that I haven't tried to implement any code to return the button to a non-selected status yet. One thing at a time.)

RESOLVED: It was apparently the nesting of a movieclip inside of a button that prevented the original target path from working (and one of the tutorials at this website seems to support that). Once I knew what the proper path syntax was and didn't have to worry about that part anymore, eventually the rest fell into place pretty easily once I started using a movieclip for the button rather than an actual button.

Mxmlc :: Does Flex SDK's Create A Cache File Or Hash To Determine If Source Code Has Changed

Oct 22, 2009

My ant buildfiles tell mxmlc.jar to recompile target mxml source. However, if the target mxml source file has not changed, either ant or mxmlc is ignoring the file and will not create a new swf. This is an annoyance because I'm editing files imported by the target mxml. I need it to rebuild when those files change. I'm guessing that the mxmlc is creating a cache file somewhere and comparing the target mxml (or maybe just a hash). Is this what is happening? What's the standard work-around? At the moment, I'm editing the target mxml just to cause a file change.
