Say, I have an array of movie clips (dummies). Each dummy has an event listener and reacts to clicks. And when a dummy is clicked, I want to know the index of the clicked dummy.
I've only come up with this solution: run through the whole array of dummies and find out which dummy is the target, then exit the 'for' cycle and assign some global variable the value of counter variable, but this way the application I am building will demontsrate poor performance.

I search the stage for the level I created and put the floor pieces into an array. I'm trying to test the properties I created for each piece by tracing to output when the hero sprite is within the floor pieces sides. This works fine when I specify the array index to do this for, but does not work when I try to loop through every element of the array. I see no reason why this code should not work.
package { import flash.display.*; import flash.events.*; import flash.utils.getTimer; import flash.utils.Timer; public class MegaManTest extends MovieClip { private var hero:Object; [Code] .....
Supposing that i've a lot of MC placed on stage, every MC is stored into an array. Clicking on one of it, can i retrive the position in which it's stored into the array?
In below class I ave declared an array "selectedOptions". In click event Im storing the values in it. But everytime I click on the object the array gets initialized and stores the clicked element rather storing all the elements one by one. Could you tell me the reason?
I have a simple list in Flex that is populated every N seconds by a dataprovider. My goal is to avoid scrolling the list after the dataprovider has been changed.
So, before I populate the list, I save the selectedIndex, and once the dataProvider is filled, I call:
Trouble is that this moves the selected item of the list to the top. The solution would be to get the index of the first element displayed in the list: but I have no idea on how to get that.
I have an XMLListCollection object that contains items with an ID property. I want to find one particular item by id and then get it's index in the collection. This is done to be able to tell the comboBox (whose dataProvider is the XMLListCollection) the index of the item to display.
Here is the problem I have: after I change the index of one movieclip using this code
oldIndex=getChildIndex(DisplayObject(e.target)); setChildIndex(DisplayObject(e.target), numChildren - 1); when I give the object its old index setChildIndex(DisplayObject(e.target), oldIndex);
and go to another frame of the movie, this element I have changed the index of stays on top of all elements on the new frame. My question is am I doing something wrong and if not, what can I do so that this element stays only in the frame it is placed.
I have several array element each assigned to different symbols on the stage and now I have assigned one function (fcn1) for each element's MOUSE_OVER event as follows:.
for(h = 0; h < fields.length; h++) { fields[h].addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, fcn1);
[code]....
Now in fcn1, I have to identify which element the mouse was over it. I could not do this because I can't pass any parameter to fcn1 other than e:MouseEvent. And I tried to look the properties and methods of e:MouseEvent that might give any information about the source element (in this case, array elements).So far, only way out of this was I create function for each array element which in turn call fcn1 with appropriate parameter, but it is cluttery.
I am dynamically creating 10 textinputs inside a vgroup . when user clicks a button, I want to fetch the text present on all textinputs. How to do this. My code looks like this
var vgroup:VGroup = new VGroup; for(var i:number=0;i<10;i++){ var textinput:TextInput=new TextInput(); vgroup.addElement(textinput): }
I am working on a sample map application using Flex 4/fxg? Now I have got FXG paths held in Group elements with id's( I have assigned path's id's to the corresponding group container)? But when I click anywhere in the map, I do not get the clicked group as target/currentTarget in event handler. How to determine which element is clicked?
i have a tree component that dispatches an itemOpen event. When the black triangle next to the yellow folder is clicked, that folder opens to expose its children.
Is there anyway to know the index of the open folder? there is a rowIndex property in the target property of the openItem event that stores the index but it is not accessible.
I'm trying to check if a clicked element is inside of an IVisualElement in Flex 4. So I want something like "if this element is in this element, then execute function". I'm aware of the 'parent' property but this doesn't seem to work when my element is not a direct child of the element but for example 3 levels deep.
I have used a method to shuffle a part of a Array, but i noticed that it does not work very well.When i run this method I sometimes get empty array values.So if you would try the example below and test it out some times you would get a right result but sometimes a wrong result.For example when i run this i get in my trace output:
a,b,c,d,g,,e,f (here after the g it goes wrong) a,b,c,f,g,d,e (here it goes right) a,b,c,d,,g,f,e (here it goes wrong)[code]...
Is it possible to, if you have an array of class names like ActionScript Code: var city01names:Array = ["pic_01", "pic_02", "pic_03" ...] make a new array which would read these names, instantiate them, and push them into a new array containing the instances of all these pictures, which I could then use for a slideshow?
I have an array called dropTarg1 which stores dropped-in items.I want to loop through this array and in a textfield, display each array item on a new line of this text fieldI think I need to use something like Array.join("/n") but I can't get it working properly. I hope that the /n would create a new line of the text field called reviewBoxContentText.
I have 4 buttons and an empty array. When a button is clicked,I'm adding a element to an array with array.push. However, I want to check the array 1st to see if that element exists. If so, then don't add it. Here's what I have thus far
[Code]...
Now I'm taking it I'd have a conditional statement to see if the element already exists. Unfortunatly I cannot just disable the button. I searched the AS dictionary but oddly enough it doesn't have an easy way to search an array. And IndexOf seems to only work for a string.
I want another array which takes the values of the price from the 1st Array. Can we do something like this? private var another_price_array:Array = [all_array.price]; This second array will be used to populate a ComboBox, or can I populate the combo directly from the first array itself?
I put my mc's in an array.I have another array with strings.when the mc is clicked I want to get its position in the mc array and return the string from the same position in the string array.How do I do that?
PHP Code: var numBtnArray:Array = new Array; function addNumButtonsToStage():void{
i need to split a large text file into an array at line breaks so one array element = one line.i have tried the using "" in both match() and in RegExp but it doesnt work.i had the g and m flags on. tried the $ sign too.
I thought that there was a way to be able to name array indexes. Like instead of myArray[0], it could be myArray["tileFour"]. I thought that instead of using index numbers one could use index words.
I have a game map made of tiles, each tile is stored in an array called _tiles.The very each tile has a "plantable" parameter, which determines whether or not something can be placed on it.Then i loop through the array and check the position of each its elements against the mosue cursor, so I know which tile am I hovering with my mouse.
And it works pretty good. The problem is that even though I know what is the position of the tile I'm having the cursor on, I still lack the knowledge of what index is that tile. I simply can't tell where exactly in the array is placed this tile. I just know its position. The reason why I want to know the index of it, is because it's the only way for me to set a proper flag, namely whether it's plantable or not. Here's the code:
