Flex :: Delete XMLList Element With A Given Index?
Nov 13, 2009How can I delete the element with a certain index in a Flex XMLList?
View 1 RepliesHow can I delete the element with a certain index in a Flex XMLList?
View 1 RepliesBasically, since XMLList are similar to Arrays in many ways, I was wondering if I could do something like:
XMLList.length = 10;
I know this is not possible because 'length' in XMLList is not a property but is a method. Hence is something like a get method without a set method. Only XMLList.length() would work.
I have an XMLList 'Keywords', which consists of about 30 elements. I want to count the number of unique keywords in the List, and how often they occur. Then display the top 3 most occuring keywords.
View 1 RepliesI use flex4 list[code]...
as far as i know , i can only know the the index that i already select by function
list.selectedIndex
did flex4 proivde some other function that i can use?
I have a simple list in Flex that is populated every N seconds by a dataprovider. My goal is to avoid scrolling the list after the dataprovider has been changed.
So, before I populate the list, I save the selectedIndex, and once the dataProvider is filled, I call:
list.selectedIndex = index;
list.scrollToIndex(index);
Trouble is that this moves the selected item of the list to the top. The solution would be to get the index of the first element displayed in the list: but I have no idea on how to get that.
I have a datagrid with an xmlListCollection bound to it:
<mx:DataGrid id="dgCompetente" includeIn="Competente" x="10" y="66" width="547" height="468"
change="dgCompetente_changeHandler(event)" dataProvider="{colCompetente}"
editable="false">

I want the selectedIndex to remain the same. So, if I delete item 2, the next in the list should be selected. The problem is that if I delete item 2, item 3 will be selected and I have no idea why.
My xml file that is dynamically generated and contains an attribute that may or may not exist in every node. In this case it's "title"
<album>
<img file="001" title="title1"/>
<img file="002" title="title2"/>
<img file="003"/>
<img file="004" title="sometext"/>
</album>
img file = an image that get's displayed, and I want to test when each file is displayed what the "title" attribute =. That all works great. So depending on what img file I'm using (based on index position), I'm grabbing the title attribute with the position index. The problem is when an attribute is missing the next "title" attribute is moving down into that index position. so when I look for the attribute like this.

Is there a way for the list to hold it's index position based on the img tag and then let me dig down via dot and attribute name? I've tried all sorts of combos with no success.
I have an XMLList:
Code:
var contentList:XMLList = loadedXML.someNode.elements(nodeFromNavElement);
Where "nodeFromNavElement" is a var being passed from a movie clip the user clicks on. That all works fine. The user is now in a particular section of the Flash app, and the content being pulled from the XML corresponds to the section. If the user clicks another movie clip (or navigation element, the content needs to update.
I need to get another node within the current node, like this:
Code:
var contentList:XMLList = loadedXML.someNode.elements(nodeFromNavElement).elements(nextNodeFromNavElement);
But I'm trying to append to the XMLList... something like:
Code:
var contentList:XMLList = loadedXML.someNode.elements(nodeFromNavElement) + .elements(nextNodeFromNavElement);
Which obviously doesn't (and shouldn't) work.
This is my first AS3 post, I have recently taken the step from AS2. I am displaying an image from an XMLList using event.target.name. I need to access it's index number in the list to set to a variable.Here is the code:
thumbLoader.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, showPicture);
function showPicture(event:MouseEvent):void
imageLoader.load(new URLRequest(event.target.name));

I'm trying to create a virtual keyboard.
I have a class VirtualKeyboard which contains an array called keyboard of 26 movieclips, each one representing a letter.
In the main class, I create an object of the class VirtualKeyboard and added an eventlistener on it when a letter is clicked.[code]...
But the index always returns the value 4294967295.
How can I know which letter was clicked, I mean the index in the keyboard array corresponding to that letter?
The same code is working correctly if I put it in the VirtualKeyboard class, but not from the main class.
I search the stage for the level I created and put the floor pieces into an array. I'm trying to test the properties I created for each piece by tracing to output when the hero sprite is within the floor pieces sides. This works fine when I specify the array index to do this for, but does not work when I try to loop through every element of the array. I see no reason why this code should not work.
package {
import flash.display.*;
import flash.events.*;
import flash.utils.getTimer;
import flash.utils.Timer;
public class MegaManTest extends MovieClip {
private var hero:Object;

I have an XMLListCollection object that contains items with an ID property. I want to find one particular item by id and then get it's index in the collection. This is done to be able to tell the comboBox (whose dataProvider is the XMLListCollection) the index of the item to display.
View 1 RepliesSay, I have an array of movie clips (dummies). Each dummy has an event listener and reacts to clicks. And when a dummy is clicked, I want to know the index of the clicked dummy.
I've only come up with this solution: run through the whole array of dummies and find out which dummy is the target, then exit the 'for' cycle and assign some global variable the value of counter variable, but this way the application I am building will demontsrate poor performance.
Supposing that i've a lot of MC placed on stage, every MC is stored into an array. Clicking on one of it, can i retrive the position in which it's stored into the array?

Here is the problem I have: after I change the index of one movieclip using this code
oldIndex=getChildIndex(DisplayObject(e.target));
setChildIndex(DisplayObject(e.target), numChildren - 1);
when I give the object its old index
setChildIndex(DisplayObject(e.target), oldIndex);
and go to another frame of the movie, this element I have changed the index of stays on top of all elements on the new frame. My question is am I doing something wrong and if not, what can I do so that this element stays only in the frame it is placed.
I am implementing a flex auto-suggest combobox - as the user types in each character: Consider the string 'Stackoverflow' and user input = 'st'
1) the data provider is filtered to show all items starting with 'st'
2) text is set to auto-suggest string such that the un-typed part is highlighted.
So for instance, the combobox text may contain st'ackoverflow', where 'ackoverflow' is highlighted using setSelectedIndex()When I hit back-space or delete, and check the 'this.text' value, I expect that the last un-highlighted character ('t' in the above case) gets deleted and the data provider is filtered to show all items starting with 's'. However the text property contains 'st', as before
I have the following XMLList and am trying to return the XMLList with the node having the label Mail Box or Outbox, depending on string variable called folder. folder can either be equal to "Mail Box" or "Outbox".
`<fx:XMLList id="treeData">
<node label="Mail Box">
<node label="Inbox">

I'm trying to loop through an XMLList and rather than giving me each item in the list as XML, it's just coming back with the positions as strings e.g.
[Code]...
It just alerts "0" or "1". If I inspect the 'item' variable, I see the same thing. But if I inspect 'myList' it looks like the XML. I've also tried myList.children() and strongly typing 'items' to 'XML' but nothing I do has worked.
I'm trying to use the delete keyword to remove nodes from an xml file and it just plain won't work.Here's a stripped down example of what I'm working with. Every node has a child named "deleteme". If its value is equal to 1 I want to remove it from the xml file. If its anything else I want to leave it be. The delete method is deffinately gettig call but it's having no effect.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>

If I have an XMLList object in Flex, what is the proper way to check to see if the list is empty? Should I just compare the result of myList.length() > 0, myList.toString() != "" or try another method altogether?
View 1 RepliesHow would I get a range of items from my xmllist similar to the slice method for an array?
slice(startIndex,endIndex);
I am trying something like this:
var tempXMLList:XMLList = new XMLList();

I am trying to create a xmllist variable in action script like this:
var _menuData:XMLList;
<menuitem label="File">
<menuitem label="Backup Schedule"/>
[Code]....
How do I assign this xml to _menuDAta in actionScript? I dont want to create a string first and then do it all by fixing line break errors.
Is there anyway of type casting an ArrayCollection to xmllistcollection or to xmllist or can we covert ArrayCollection to xmllistcollection or to xmllist?
View 1 RepliesWhat it says on the tin: I have an XMLList, and I want to find where in it a particular XML item falls. First index is good enough for my purposes. Note that I have no problem writing a function to do this by hand... but I was hoping that the API has something buried somewhere that'll do it for me. I didn't see it, though.
View 2 RepliesI am trying to display a list of items in a datagrid from a XMLList.
<Series no="1">
<file>
<filenum>1</epnum>
<prodnum>4V01</prodnum>
[code]...
My current code allows me to retrieve every Series into an XMLList and then i have a nesteddatagrid class that allows me to do things like.
<classes:NestedDataGrid width="100%" height="100%" id="gridFiles" dataProvider="{filesList}" >
<classes:columns>
<mx:DataGridColumn headerText="Season" dataField="@no" width="60"/>
[code]...
However this displays the datagrid with two rows, the first row has 1 in the Series column and then the two files crammed into the second cell in the same row. The second row is the same but has the number 2 in the Series column and the two series #2 files crammed into the cell next to it.If i do not use the nested data class i can pull the files using Series.file instead and all 4 of the files list correctly, however i do not get the Series number for each...
I'mm using flex builder 3. I have an xml file that looks like this, notice the flag property. It can be either 0 or 1:

I have seen numerous examples on how to remove duplicates in ArrayCollection but I can't seem to transpose this to XMLList. In most ArrayCollection examples, the example compares the key of the array with hasOwnProperty method and return a bool. That's fine, but what would I compare to when using an XMLList? Let's say I have:

Given this XML code:[code]I can count the total number of game elements in the XML.game with:[code]Is there please some way to print the number of all game elements having the exact number of 3 user children? And also count all such elements with less than 3 user children?[code]The backgound is, that I have a Flex game, where up to 3 players can sit at a playing table and I'm trying to display the number of All, Vacant and Full playing tables there (the top left row with RadioButtons, sorry for the non-English language):I'm reading the XMLList doc, but don't see how to do it with one-liners, I only can see how to do it with loops...
