How would I get a range of items from my xmllist similar to the slice method for an array?
slice(startIndex,endIndex);
I am trying something like this:
var tempXMLList:XMLList = new XMLList();

I am trying to use .slice() to copy an Array of Loaders (each with a jpg loaded in it), as follows:
newArray = oldArray.slice();
and it works, but the problem is, any changes I apply to one Array applies to both, as though .slice() had just copied a pointer to the same Array, but I was specifically told that .slice() would not exhibit that pblm. Before I just go back to loading the same images twice, is there something special about Arrays of Loaders or something else I might be missing?
I would like to take the current array image[i] randomly select ten items from it and load that into a seperate array. Is there a way to accomplish this?

I've been getting into some xml finally, and came across how handy the XMLList. As I understand it, the XMLList can be treated almost like an array.

I can trace the xmlDoc variable and get the entire xml document I'm trying to pull in - but if I want to just bring in the entries or the content within them, I get a big 'undefined'. Am I using the xmlList wrong? How should I be able to get an array without having to loop through all the xml Document stuff? here's an example of the xml pulled.

View 1 RepliesI am creating a program where a change in a value causes the color of a pie slice in an mx:PieChart to change dynamically.the code that is supposed to change the color is similar to this:(pieChart.pieChartSeries.items[i] as PieSeriesItem).fill = new mx.graphics.SolidColor(0,0.2); // black, almost opaquetracing out the results of this appears to apply the color to the particular PieSeriesItem, but the color does not change visually. I checked the AS reference and the fill property is of type iFill and should accept a solidColor instance. (note: I have also tried 0x000000 as a valid color, the first argument of SolidColor takes an uint)edit] Since I posted the question originally, I've added a few changes to clarify the question. am actually using an MXML component that extends < mx:PieChart > . Originally I was trying to set the color as listed above within an event handler in the main application. What I have done since then was invoke a method in my extended PieChart component, like so:

I have the following XMLList and am trying to return the XMLList with the node having the label Mail Box or Outbox, depending on string variable called folder. folder can either be equal to "Mail Box" or "Outbox".

I'm trying to loop through an XMLList and rather than giving me each item in the list as XML, it's just coming back with the positions as strings e.g.
[Code]...
It just alerts "0" or "1". If I inspect the 'item' variable, I see the same thing. But if I inspect 'myList' it looks like the XML. I've also tried myList.children() and strongly typing 'items' to 'XML' but nothing I do has worked.
If I have an XMLList object in Flex, what is the proper way to check to see if the list is empty? Should I just compare the result of myList.length() > 0, myList.toString() != "" or try another method altogether?

Note that I have no problem writing a function to do this by hand... but I was hoping that the API has something buried somewhere that'll do it for me. I didn't see it, though.

My current code allows me to retrieve every Series into an XMLList and then i have a nesteddatagrid class that allows me to do things like.

However this displays the datagrid with two rows, the first row has 1 in the Series column and then the two files crammed into the second cell in the same row. The second row is the same but has the number 2 in the Series column and the two series #2 files crammed into the cell next to it.If i do not use the nested data class i can pull the files using Series.file instead and all 4 of the files list correctly, however i do not get the Series number for each...

I have seen numerous examples on how to remove duplicates in ArrayCollection but I can't seem to transpose this to XMLList. In most ArrayCollection examples, the example compares the key of the array with hasOwnProperty method and return a bool. That's fine, but what would I compare to when using an XMLList? I am trying to use slice to remove an element of an array and it does not seem to be working.I have an array in a class called singleton. It is global and persistent and once instantiated I just get the instance of it
_singletonInstance = Singleton.getInstance();
I also have another class I instantiate when I need to add or remove an element from that array in the singleton object.I can add to the array when I call this function:

Since the TimeCell0_mc_25 is index 4 it should be removed in the second list after add. but as you can see it is still there.
This may be a bit of an easy question for some, but I'm having difficulty understanding what mc.name.slice(5,9) does. What is this name slice bit about?

I've made a rounded rectangle with a gradient fill and another rounded rectangle over it with a transparency to create kind of a glossy effect. Both objects are part of a symbol in the library of the FLA file. Then, I activated the checkbox to create a scale-9 grid, and the Export for Actionscript checkbox in order to add this symbol from AS3. Next I made sure that every rounded corner was completely included in the slices on the edges of the grid. Well, no matter what, the object is scaled as a normal graph: the rounded corners appear bigger and deformed.
