Flex :: Knowing The Exact Index Clicked In A Tree Event?

i have a tree component that dispatches an itemOpen event. When the black triangle next to the yellow folder is clicked, that folder opens to expose its children.
Is there anyway to know the index of the open folder? there is a rowIndex property in the target property of the openItem event that stores the index but it is not accessible.
I am working on Air application,i had a problem on Tree control.Iam adding nodes for the tree dynamically, while adding nodes to the tree i am setting Tree.selectedItem as present added node. after that i need to fire Tree.itemClick event handler method also.how can i call event handler method as a common method. in Flex3

EDIT: I forgot to post that my current workaround is setting the selectedIndex = -1 after I get my node:XML. I'm afraid that if something bogs on the processor the user may see it select then deselect.
I have a ComboBox, with it prepopulated with the States.When I have a variable that says it should be pre-selected to for example CA, how do I do that, without haveing to figure out the index number for every single state?
Say you have a class Parent, which has a property childArray:Array. In this array, we will register several instances of the class Child. Is there an easy way for a child to know which position in the array it currently has? I know I could just pass the index number into the child as I register them, but if a child were to be deleted from the array, all children past the deleted childs index would need to have their indexes updatedl. While this is of course not a huge task, I just have this feeling it should be a better and more dynamic solution.
The code runs fine, but the problem I'm having is that the text box that is suppose to go onto of my answer buttons is behind the button itself... however, if I change two lines of code around, the answer validation code doesn't pick up the which answer was clicked (it returns undefined). This is infuriating!Look for the line "//INSERT HERE." If I take the line, "var answerField:TextField = createText(answer,answerFormat,answerSprite,0,0,450);" and put it there instead, it returns the right answers (doesn't return undefined), but I can no longer see the text. I've included the createText function as well.

im creating a portfolio website that primarily uses flv videos for graphics. For example, if you click to go to another section of the website a video plays that actually walks you to that area. What I want to do is be able to load a different video when a button is clicked in the exact same place as the old one. I currently have a working class that plays a video

I want to some how be able to change the variable flvName on the click of a button on my stage and recall the class to change the video. If you can think of an alternate way of doing what i need to do id love to hear it.
I have a Tree component that's used as a navigation menu between different 'pages'. When the user clicks a certain option in the menu, I switch the 'page' by switching between State components in my application. The thing is that when the user indeed clicks an option in the menu, I want to perform a validation of some of the information in a certain component. If the validation fails, I show an alert, and I'd like to prevent the navigation to the other page. One part of this is simply not changing the currentState of the document, but the tree component still goes on with the change event, and the result is page A still being shown on the screen, whereas the selected option in the tree is page B (to which the user wanted to navigate, but failed since some of the information wasn't valid).
I tried to figure out how I can cancel the change event on the tree component itself. The thoughts I had didn't quite fit nicely:
I searched for a slightly different event (such as 'changing' or 'startChange') on which I can call the stopPropagation() method (since the regular 'change' event is not cancelable), but none exists for the Tree component.
I also thought about always saving the current option that's selected in the Tree component by myself, and when the validation fails, I will set the Tree's selectedItem to that saved option. That's also ugly because such an action will raise another change event on the Tree, thus another change to the States components, and another population of the page in which I'm already at. That's something I really don't want to do.
I also though about using a different component, such as Menu (and I also found an implementation of a vertical Menu), but that doesn't even seem to help. The same problem will exist there.
There must be a best-practice for preventing a change process to commit!
i'm creating a reusable flex tree component. And i would like to stick in the itemclick funtion. So that when a user clicks anywhere on one of the tree's Branches. the branch expands.My problem is that i don't know how i can get the listener function to fire.What i would like to do is create the tree completely in as3. (no mxml). Normaly i set the itemClick on tree in the mxml. but i want to do this in as3. My component has alot more functions in it but i have deleted them so that it becomes easier to read. I Thought if i override the createChilderen function and add the eventlistener in there, that i would work. But no luck.
I'm trying to make a Flex Tree Component display the children of a sprite in a hierarchical way. Moreover, dragging the items on the FlexTree would resort and reparent the items. I have special Elements set as Folders. This would allow other elements to be added there as a children by dragging an element on the tree and dropping it there. I have a failed attempt which works, but breaks when I try to add folders. Basically, it fails at reparenting the items by dragging and resorting folders and that Does anyone know of a component or something which can do this, has anyone have created any of this or could anyone give me a clue?
I've got a canvas within which I have a list. The renderer for this list calls upon a "Text" field, with the "link" element of this field set to a function. The "htmlText" of the field is set dynamically to a mixture of words and links. Basically the function checks to see which tag within the htmlText has been clicked and performs an event accordingly.However, you have to click the link twice for anything to happen. Whilst debugging the code I noticed that the function referenced by the "link" element isn't actually even called until the 2nd click.

I've only come up with this solution: run through the whole array of dummies and find out which dummy is the target, then exit the 'for' cycle and assign some global variable the value of counter variable, but this way the application I am building will demontsrate poor performance.

I have a flex tree that worked perfectly fine when we set the defaultLeafIcon={null} and the folderClosedIcon and folderOpenIcon to {null}. We decided to put the icons back in and took out the nulls. Now they show up fine, but if you click on the icon instead of the label or the rest of the row, it seems to change the selected item, shows the highlight around the new item, but doesn't dispatch the ItemClick event. This makes it really hard to know that the tree's selected item has changed!
The weird part is that once you have clicked on the icon once and it looked like the selectedItem changed (or at least it applied that style), if you click the same icon again, it will actually fire the itemClick event. if you click any other icon, it does the same thing again, switching the selectedItem and styling that row, but not firing the itemClick event.
Any way to get the exact position for every character inside a textflow?, also I'm having trouble with the TLF documentation, is there anny documentation that shows more on how to work with it in actionscript rather than mxml, I am looking to write my own component and perhaps not use richtexteditor if I don't need to. How to get each characters position in the textflow:

This returns an error that's why I have try and cache, I have tried to change textLine.atomCount to -1 but that wont work either. Now I don't know what character exactly that I have the position for.
I received an inheritance old flex project. I've never worked with Flex. I installed the latest Flash Builder and I need to know the exact version of used Flex SDK. Is there any way to know used SDK version from project files?
This is my first AS3 post, I have recently taken the step from AS2. I am displaying an image from an XMLList using event.target.name. I need to access it's index number in the list to set to a variable.Here is the code:

I am loading a set of thumbnail images from an array [hard coded] into a movieclip symbol on the stage. I have two arrays with the thumbnail and the full size image having the same index number. In many examples, "event.currentTarget.contentLoaderInfo.url" returns the full path to the image selected. i just want the index number. Adobe does not make is easy to figure out what other properties are available to me from the contentLoaderInfo. Is 'SelectedIndex' or something like that available? Where does an inspiring AS programmer find the contentLoaderInfo properties and or methods available? Is url the only thing that us usable here?

I'm working on [URL] and I am using a small swf over the milk carton on the left. I use it to make it look like text being entered is on the milk carton. So its just a textfield and a button.
When the user clicks in the text box it clears and allows typing. This is good. This is the part I'm stuck on: If the user changes their mind about typing and clicks somewhere else on the screen (outside of the swf) I want the example text to return and the text cursor to stop flashing.
I have a intro to a picture of a tree which has buttons on it. The intro is an embedded flv video (not using the FLV component). The video starts on frame one and runs to frame 2. The tree is on frame 3.When I click a button on the tree, it runs the respective frames then returns to the tree. When the tree appears, the sound of the video is playing in the background.How can I make this stop?

I understand that below, the first trace works because the mouse event comes from the clicked object, and that the second produces an error because the ENTER_FRAME event is attached to the stage, so e.target is the stage. i realise i can attach the listener to the obj, but i need it on the stage for what im doing
How can i reference the clicked object from run() ?

So clicking any colored shape should produce an alert (except for the green one in IE, not sure why but I hope that's off topic and not related to my issue).
Clicking the Flash container in Firefox will work Perfectly fine. You should get alert boxes in this order containing: span, div and body. Flash bubbles the event to the HTML. But this is not happening in IE.
So why is Flash in IE not bubbling events to HTML?
Edit: As mentioned by Andy E this behavior can also bee seen in Google Chrome which to my knowledge is not using ActiveX to embed the flash movie into the page.
