Flex :: Graphics - Create A Rounded Rectangle With A Dashed Line?
Jun 14, 2010How can I create a rounded rectangle with a dashed line? I've seen several routines that draw their own straight lines, but nothing for rounded rectangles.

View 3 Replies[code]This code is drawing a colum chart with two columns and drawing a line across the top of both columns. I have two requirements: the line need to be dashed as of now the line starts from top right corner of the first column to the same corner of the second column. How can i shift the line to the left, so that it starts from center of first column to center of second column.
View 3 RepliesI am using Flex 4 and AS3 and I am trying to make it so that the user can draw a freehand line with the cursor - I have this part done.However, I also need the line to be a dashed line instead of one solid line like it is now. below is my code I am using. I have found some examples on how to do this, but they are all for straight lines, not for a freehand line.
Class File (DrawingArea):
package
{
import flash.display.BitmapData;
import flash.events.Event;
import flash.events.MouseEvent;

Here's my latest attempt at rendering a dynamic rectange (w/ width, height, border_width, border_color & background_color) I'm trying to render a dashed border, and can't seem to get the code right...
I've reworked my logic about five times, and can get the dashes to render right (almost) but the fill color disappears. It's rendered using actionscript. You can see the issues if you change the border width... Anyone mind taking a look to see what I'm doing wrong? It seems like the moveTo function isn't behaving right when I get to the end of each line.

I would like to tween between a short rounded rectangle and a tall rounded rectangle. (I only want deal with the height - no other parameters). I am programming with ActionScript 3. My tweening engine is TweenLite.I have been tweening a sprite that contains a rounded rectangle. The tweened sprite produces distortion. I suppose that I have been scaling the original image, rather than the height of the rounded rectangle?Here is a simple example of my code:
Draw the rounded rectangle:
roundRect = new Sprite();roundRect.graphics.beginFill(0x000000);roundRect.graphics.drawRoundRect(0,0,50,15,4,4); //Original Height: 15roundRect.graphics.endFill();addChild(roundRect);
Then I listen for a mouse click event on the rounded rectangle.The mouse event triggers a function with the following code:
TweenLite.to(this.roundRect, 1, {height:120}); //Final Height: 120
I would like to tween the height of the rounded rectangle itself. I would hope that this would not produce the unwanted distortion.
I'm trying to get plain straight corners on a rectangel. I have been drawing a rectangle or even before drawing one, selecting the little tool in the lower left and I put in a value of 0, but as soon as I draw anything it rounds up again. How do I get rid of this problem??
View 2 RepliesAs i understand, flash cant assign dashed or dotted linestyles. Ive googled it for a while and found 2 classes which actually draw dashed and dotted lines, but i can't manage to implement it with my drawing tool.

I've seen a few tutorials on this site that discuss the Drawing API, What I'm wanting to do is draw a rounded rectangle at runtime to a particular size.I initially tried resizing an already-created rectangle, but as the movie clip resized, the radius on the corners got distorted.
View 6 RepliesI'm trying to achieve a roundedRectangle in gradient by using just code but i'm getting stuck.I was able to achieve the gradient part but adding the rounded piece its difficult, please see me code,
Code:

{
import mx.core.UIComponent;
import flash.filters.DropShadowFilter;
import mx.graphics.LinearGradient;

is it possible to draw a rectangle specifying which corners should be rounded and which not in a simple manner?
View 3 Repliescreate a method for drawing rectangle with rounded corners, but while being able to specify which of the four corners (any, all, none,etc.) you wanted to round.The method below does the trick, but for some reason my corners don't match the same curves that I get using the same radius with drawRoundRect().
In other words, if I call my method (and set all four corners to be rounded) and compare that with the same call to drawRoundRect() the actual curves of the corners are slightly different.
HTML Code:
public function drawComplexRoundedRect(startX:int,startY:int,rectWidth:int,rectHeight:int,radius:int,canvas:Sprite,roundTopLeft:Boolean=false,roundTopRight:Boolean=false,roundBottomLeft:Boolean=false,roundBottomRight:Boolean=false):void{

I'm trying to create an HBox in flex that has only the top corners rounded. HBox (and all the other flex containers) have a cornerRadius style, but it applies to all corners. I'm not seeing a way to specify the style of individual corners.
Is there any built-in way to do this, or will I need to write my own custom drawing code to draw the background with rounded corners?
Can i change the fill color of an existend rounded rectangle primitive?[code]
View 7 RepliesI'm drawing a line using this code:
this.graphics.moveTo(posx, posy);
this.graphics.lineTo(2*posx,2*posy);
But now I want to remove it, but I can't clear the whole this.graphics object because it contains more information that is useful for me. How can I remove this line without clearing this.graphics object? Is there any method to draw a similar line over it to hide or replace the line?
I have a photo in a Flex project[code]...
But now I'm wondering if I can make this image as the image below, in Flex (4 / 4.5 / 4.6) (in MXML and/or ActionScript 3)
If I skin a button and use the AS3 graphice.clear() and graphics.lineTo and beginFill to create a shape, the button overlaps other items in the container.
When I use the and mxml to create the same shape, the button is neatly positioned inside the container.
I wanted to check if there is a easy way to build an arrow for a line... currently I am trying to draw a triangle at end of the line- doable but a load of geometry to handle as the line could be at any angle and- anything build-in available?
View 3 RepliesIs there a neat minimal way of doing this? (this produces an error):
var freeSpace = shape.freeSpace() // returns Rectangle
var s:Sprite = new Sprite();
s.graphics.drawRect(freeSpace);
Just looking for a more cleaner way other than something like .drawRect(freeSpace.x, freeSpace.y, freeSpace.w, freeSpace.h) I know you can do it with bitmapData.fillRect(rectangle), but need sprites in this case.
I'd like to create a component like that. Each rectangle may be empty half or full according user notation. So I'd mike to do the same with flex and AS3 but I don't found how. Actually, I create a 2D rectangle with no relief.
View 1 RepliesI have the following code to create a Sprite with a rectangle in it:
container = new Sprite();
container.graphics.beginFill(0x00CCFF, .5);
container.graphics.lineStyle(1, 0x00CCFF);[code].......
The only thing is, I'd like the registration point to be in the middle (not the top left corner). Is there a way to set up the registration point in the middle of the rectangle, but still have the position of the rectangle be correct?
i.e. not moved over so that the top left corner of the rectangle is in the "middle" of where I want the rectangle to be...
I have got a new requirement in which i have to display my Column Chart in dashed manner.
View 1 RepliesMy group is working on a Flex/AS3 scientific web application that is data intensive. Luckily the only plots involved are line charts. However, each line chart may have multiple traces (up to 24), and each trace may contain up to 2000 points. The user will need to zoom in and out and interact with the data (e.g. data tips, etc.).
The response I'm getting from developers is that's a lot of data to render in a plot in Flash. For reasons beyond the scope of this post, we can't sample the data to reduce the size (this has already been done and nature of the data prevents further sampling).
Rendering speed is critical for this app. What kind of rendering speed should I expect the Flex 4 line chart component to provide for a given number of points (e.g. 1 second to render 1000 points?)
Are there products available that handle plotting large data sets better, which can be incorporated in Flex (I've seen FusionCharts and ZingCharts online but have no idea how they compare with Flex's components)? Of those, which are easy to develop with while still providing a lot of flexibility in look and feel?
Is there a way to apply styling to the line of a rectangle that is drawn using AS3? So instead of the solid stroke, can I apply a dotted or a dashed one?
View 3 RepliesI'd like to be able to write a .swf file that is runnable as a command line app. In other words, I would be able to create actionscript classes which can interact with stdin and stdout, and could then execute that .swf directly in the command line. I suspect that this isn't really possible. Can anyone confirm that? EDIT: A couple of the answers pointed out that using Flash for command line work probably isn't the best choice. I wholeheartedly agree in most situations. The reason I am asking about this is because I want to do some AS3 code generation, and reflecting on AS3 classes within the runtime would be easier than parsing the code or walking the intermediary XML that asdoc produces. I'm doing the XML approach now in Ruby, but would love to have a cleaner solution!

View 1 RepliesI would like to take a straight line/rectangle that is already created on stage and tween it with as3 so that when mouse is down, i can drag and bend it into an ark shape, and when i release the shape snaps back to its originally form?
View 2 Repliesis it possible to align the stroke of a graphic with actionscript? for example, the following code creates a black rounded rect with a grey stroke that is automatically centre aligned.
var t:Sprite = new Sprite();
t.graphics.lineStyle(5, 0x555555);
t.graphics.beginFill(0, 1);
t.graphics.drawRoundRect(25, 25, 200, 75, 25, 25);
t.graphics.endFill();
the lineStyle function doesn't seem to offer any built-in functionality for aligning the stroke. in Adobe Illustrator, you can align a stroke to be either centre (half in/half out of the fill), inside (bordering within the fill) or outside. (bordering outside the fill).
How can I Tween drawing a line mc.graphics.lineTo(); ? I just see tweener has an onUpdate property awesome.
