I would like to take a straight line/rectangle that is already created on stage and tween it with as3 so that when mouse is down, i can drag and bend it into an ark shape, and when i release the shape snaps back to its originally form?

Is there a way to set the stage to 100% instead of xxx px in flash?
I'm using Flash Professional CS5 if that matters.
I've got a movieclip of a rectangle in my library which I place on stage to attachMovie. Then I create an empty movieclip which I want to use as a mask on that rectangle clip through setMask. Users kan draw into that empty movieclip. My intention is that only those areas of the rectangle clip become visible where the user is drawing a line. So I used this:

But that doesn't work: both the line drawn and the rectangle clip become invisible. I know it works because without the setMask part the line is drawn. The other way around does work (line.setMask(clip)): the rectangle clip is now masking the drawn line so only the line becomes visible within the rectangle region. But I want it the other way around: the rectangle should become visible through the lines that are drawn!
what I should read up on to let me store 'very flexible' data in a mySQL database?I've written an AS3 'online experiment' platform (soon to be opensource) where I run my psyc experiments (e.g.[url]..- a follow up to this [url]...experiments specified in XML). The big issue is that I want to be able to store data from many experiments in mySQL.
Each experiment will have a different list of variables it will want to store. E.g.
Experiment 1: name, age, rating1, rating2...
Experiment 2: id, number, reaction time1, rating1...
Experiment 999: x, y, z, a, b, c, d, e...
How on earth do I get mySQL to be so flexible??? Currently I have as3 -> php -> boring file on my server. Can you advise on reading material for me to learn how to make php -> mySQL flexible enough to do this?

View 1 RepliesI have a little snippet of code that allows the user to create a line with the mouse, and clears the line if they end up touching the hitbox with the mouse, while they're drawing the line. It works fine when it's just thrown onto the main timeline. However, when I try to encapsulate it within a movie clip, it suddenly doesn't work. At all. I created a character that can move left or right according to keys pressed by the user. (simple enough)But the most I could do is make it move along a straight line, (change X value)or along inclined lines by defining them as linear functions. (not very effective i guess)My question is, is there a way for me to draw a line and have my character walk across it?Is there something that would allow me to get the Y value of a curved line I drew based on its X value?Obviously this wouldn't be a problem if I could just draw a line from a mathematical equation, but my searches proved that to be rather complicated.

I'm trying to make straight lines grow out of a stationary dot, like veins. I've tried shape tween, but it only works for shapes, not lines. I'd just get a blank workspace when I hit play. I've also tried motion tween, but I can't get the line to grow continuously to a point.

Within the web page I have created Motion Tween with Motion editor and once previewed, it works fine. View 2 RepliesRight now my stage dimensions are 980 X 800 px. I need to cut or "crop out" the bottom portion of the footer because its height is too long. So I changed the stage dimensions to 980 X 600 px (and changed the corresponding dimensions in the embed tag in the index.html file to match). Doing this seems to cut out the bottom but at the same time adds space to the top and seems to distort the overall spacing. Is there a simple way to crop out the bottom of the stage (just like cropping out a section of a photo)?
View 5 RepliesI have a class called shapeC that only creates a rectangle and then addChild(rectangle);. That class is instantiated on the main timeline. Currently, the only way you can see that rectangle is to add the instantiated class to the stage via addChild(shapeC);. My question is, is there a way that the shapeC class can add the rectangle to the root stage without requireing the instantiated class to be added to the stage?

I am using Flex 4 and AS3 and I am trying to make it so that the user can draw a freehand line with the cursor - I have this part done.However, I also need the line to be a dashed line instead of one solid line like it is now. below is my code I am using. I have found some examples on how to do this, but they are all for straight lines, not for a freehand line.

i've been looking for a decent accordion menu forever. a coded one, not that component crap that you can't customize worth a damn. i couldn't find one that didn't make my head hurt or didn't require the menus, etc. to be created beforehand. so i finally knuckled down and made one. lazy me. and since i've seen a bunch of posts looking for them, i thought i'd put my efforts here for everyone to use and enjoy. nothing like bashing your head against a wall trying to do something simple.
the code is VERY flexible and quickly adaptable to XML implentation (which i'd actually originally did this for). and, best of all, everything is customizable. out the hoo-hoo. oh... and i commented the hell out of it for my staff, because it's often better to know WHY something works so you can learn from it and use the principles in your own stuff. there are a couple of finesse things with regard to the spacing that just need a tweak +- 1 pixel... but i thought i'd get this up before i move on to something else.i'm working on making this into a class and when i do, i might throw it up if anyone is interested. and mad thanks to the 'lmc_tween.as' crew. i know Zigo is the new deal, but there's life in the old stuff yet!
Ive got my dancing fruit sorted, however when I save the file as an animated gif and put it in my application the gif has the stage background. If it wasnt animated I could edit the back ground in photo shop, but I dont seem to be able to with the animated file. Is there anyway I can just have my dancing fruit with out the stage?

I want to take a simple published animation and put it into SONY VEGAS. However, I only want the character (I've created a symbol for it) and not the big white stage. My goal is to get the animated character on top of all my sony vegas layers, but the stage is blocking all the other layers. Is there some kind of setting that can make the stage transparent when publishing as a SWF?

When I render the SWF at first only the content on the onstage area is visible but if I resize/enlarge the window I can also see the car(content) lying outside the stage just like in the flash file. I want to be able to click on an object, without triggering the stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, clickEvent); but when I click on an object, it also triggers that event. How can I save the click on object from triggering that event on stage?

in Flash CS4 I have static text like: Line1 and line2 It's in 9 point Arial Regular as a device font. If I set the line spacing below 3.9 the second line dissappears from the compiled SWF file. It still shows in the FLA file. The same thing happens at 6pt but NOT at 5pt or less.
