I want to know if anyone has successfully printed something from Flex.
By successful I am talking about some sort of report or document or whatever.
I know its fairly simple to print a component(which is a bit cheap) from Flex by using the printJob() class and passing a component. But I want to pass an object like a list or XML to printJob().
I need to call a component and pass an object. Now I am using event initialize to pass into the method of component but it seem to execute only once as follows. Is there anyway that I can make it call every time it loads.[code]

I am passing some parameters as POST to a Servlet from my Flex WebApplication. I am able to pass and retrieve strings properly. I used new Date().getTime() in my flex code and tried passing the timestamp variable hoping to parse it at the servlet and convertit into a java.util.Date object. But i am getting a NumberFormatException when i try to parse the variable from the string that i got from request.getParameter.
View 1 RepliesSo, there are a wealth of Flex articles online about how to handle a .NET WebMethod that returns a DataSet or DataTable. Here is an example: Handling web service results that contain .NET DataSets or DataTables So, I know how to use result.Tables.<tablename>.Rows and the like. But what I cannot seem to figure out or find online is how to go the other direction - a method to pass objects or tables back to the .NET Webservice from Flex, without stooping to passing XML as a string, or making huge web service methods that have one parameter for each property/column of the object being stored. Surely others, smarter than I, have tackled this issue.
I am using ASP.NET 2.0 Typed DataSets, and it would be really nice if I could just pass one object or array of objects from Flex to the web service, populate my Typed DataTable, and do an Update() through the corresponding typed TableAdapter. I have list of object that I want each item to be rendered with some renderer that include a delete and edit buttons with some text. What is the best way to make the list of object re-order-able in drag/drop fashion so the user can drag on item on top of another to change the order of the list.

View 2 RepliesI'm having to pass data (originally read via an XML file loaded by the parent class) to a child class upon instantiation, and I can't decide which is the better method.I could parse the XML in the parent and throw the data into an Object and pass that object to the child class....or just pass the part it needs as an XMLList and let the child class do the parsing.Seems like a trivial decision, yes, but I'm not sure of longer-term implications.
View 3 RepliesI found at this Adobe tutorial a nice "RemoteService" class that creates a RemoteObject and contains the functions for handling the result and fault events. If I wanted to use this approach, how could I pass the data from the result handler to interfaces that modules from the main application could use?
I could put the RemoteService/RemoteObject in the modules, but (in my opinion- and I could be wrong) the best design seems to be using the remote calls in the main app and passing the data along to the modules.
I have a Tree, which has an itemRenderer. On the itemRenderer, driven by the XML conditions, objects are created dynamically and added as a children to nodes. These new objects shall trigger an event handler ( some click events mostly ). How do I pass the event handler to the tree and later to the dynamically created new objects inside itemRendere?

I want to call the Flex printing API to set the print arguments before sending printing command.But there is no method in Flex(FlexPrintJob or PrintJob) to set the printing orientation.Are there some methods to solve this problem?My project is running in B/S structure and the view layer is in Flex.

The problem with this code is i am using index value of 0. however i want to display the name of object on which i have clicked or which is highlighted.
By default, the iconFunction of List and Tree return only Class as the icon, which is for embeded images or iconUtility kindly provided by this site http:[url]...... It works very well with pre-created images.But what I really want is to accept a completely runtime generate sprite object, similar to what is done by Legend, with the color changes according to what the current status. I assume I could do something to make the ListBase to accept icon argument other than Class.
View 2 RepliesI'm developing a Flash interface that needs to pass a multi-select list to PHP from AS3. I have a similar interface programmed in HTML and JavaScript, and due to the quirks of PHP I use a series of like-named hidden fields to store the data. The fields are named, for example, "my_ option_text[]". The use of the square brackets in the name somehow identifies to PHP that this is an array and it treats it as such. I've had no problem using this method to send data to my PHP processing page and have been able to save it correctly. Now I'm trying to use the same PHP save page to process the data from Flash. Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to configure my URLVariables class properties to appropriately pass an array that will be identified as such by PHP. I've tried simply assigning an array to an appropriately named property of the URLVariables class, but the PHP only recognizes one item, not all items. I've tried using the same naming convention as that I use in HTML/JavaScript, but the square brackets aren't appreciated by AS3.
I can't believe that I'm the first person to encounter this issue. If anyone can point me in the right direction on how to resolve this I'd appreciate it. I did try searching these forums but only found one case discussing PHP arrays, and that was sending data into Flash, not from Flash to PHP.

The 'recommendations' dataProvider is an ArrayCollection of String, which are generally sentences about as long as this one. By setting the variableRowHeight and wordWrap properties as shown, if a sentence is too long to fit on a single line, everything works fine- the row expands and the messages show on two lines, or occasionally three.
The space allocated for this panel within the entire canvas means if the total text size of 'recommendations' exceeds six lines, I need for the entire list scroll. This is also working just fine. The trouble is when using the mouse wheel to do the scrolling- Flex scrolls both the entire list and the single item where the mouse is hovering. Often this results in only the second half of a sentence being visible. Non-programmer friends I have asked to look at this noticed this, and tell me it as a problem. If a user does not notice the dual scrolling, and sees only a fragment of a sentence, it will be perceived as an error in the application.

I'm trying to animate a list as I delete the top row. All the examples I can find use itemsChangeEffect to bind to the effect, but this property exists only in MX lists, not spark lists.
Any idea how I can get the same effect done in Spark Lists?

The Context of the Problem.I'm working on a rotator banner in flash. I use an external xml file to pass the banners info (like info-text, link, image-path, priority, etc). Everything is going well so far. I'm loading the xml something like this:

The Problem itself.Now I need to construct this xml on-the-fly in php and somehow pass it to my flash object. So instead of read the external file I want my flash script receive an xml parameter it can work with.
