Suppose I have a list of objects of a certain custom type and I need to find an object given only the value of one of its attributes, how do I do it?
Eg.

I have a Flex XML object as follows:

This object is ok, and shows up correctly in debug mode. The problem is I have a country name i.e. private var _country:String = "Angola";, and I want to get the corresponding value 'AO' from the XML object. Do you know how to do this?
I have tried loads of Livedocs examples, but cant get it to work. P.S. I am working on a HtpService & WebService driven app to display global weather conditions overlayed on a Google Maps interface. Going to make it available to the Flex community when finished.
Premesis:I am using actionscript with two arraycollection containing object with value to be matched...Let's assume I have two list of elements A and B (no duplicate values) and I need to compare them and remove all the elements present in both, so at the end I should have
in A all the elements that are in A but not in B
in B all the elements that are in B but not in A
now I do something like that:

I cycle both the array and if I found a match I remove the items from both of the array (and don't increase the loop value so the for cycle progress in a correct way).I was wondering if (and i'm sure there is) there is a better (and less CPU consuming) way to do it...
I have some xml, I want to give it to a List dataprovider, but based on an attribute match.

And I am trying to do something like below, If I remove (@name=="general") from below line it gives me all property

But it gives me error, so basically I want to get all property based on rows attribute name matching general

I'm trying to match some events on stage to certain info from an XML doc.
For example, I have a movie clip instance named "id1234". In my XML, the attribute value for that particular node is also id1234.
So when I click on that mc, it's suppose to pull the XML data associated with id1234 from XML.
Is there anyway I can compare the current target value (that is whatever my mouse clicked) and search for the proper attribute in XML dynamically?

i have an xml which contains 'interface' sub tag, iam converting xml to object using SampleXmlDecoder. compiler did not allow me to access the value of the 'inteface' attrible of the resultobject.

How do you use variables to access Object attributes? Suppose I have an Object declared as follows,

I'm looking for a way to list all XMLNode that have a certain attribute, in my case, the "link" attribute.So i do :

I am having trouble searching through a list component and/or dataprovider to see if an item already exists. Basically i am adding items to the list when a item is dragged on to the list. But i want to check to see if an item is already added so not to duplicate items. any ideas would be great.

By successful I am talking about some sort of report or document or whatever.
I know its fairly simple to print a component(which is a bit cheap) from Flex by using the printJob() class and passing a component. But I want to pass an object like a list or XML to printJob().
what i would like to do is create a search field that as the user types in the search bar if there are any matching entries in the list, the focus/selection jumps to that particular item in list. i don't want to clear the list just go to the item that matches.i would like it to be predictive so if i have these entries:and the user types "s" in the search box to the first "s" entry in the list (samson) is selected, if they type "se" the selection jumps to the first entry with "se" in it (seek) if they type "seet" the selection jumps to "seether" and so on.i have absolutely no idea how to do it, but more importantly...is this possible? View 6 RepliesFor a word matching game, when a player moves a piece I need to check the entire dictionary to see if the the word that the player made exists in the dictionary. I need to do this as quickly as possible. simply iterating through the dictionary is way too slow.
What is the quickest algorithm in AS3 to search a long list like this for a match, and what datatype should I use? (ie array, object, Dictionary etc)
My designer provides me lots of MovieClips containing buttons and its states and most of them contain a TLF TextField. Now I do not want to check each MovieClip where a TLF TextField is used. Can I know exactly in which MovieClips and buttons a TLF TextFields has been used so that I can convert them to a classic TextField, or any method to convert all TLF TextFields to classic automatically by the compiler itself? I tried deleting the TLF library from publish settings: it starts giving me an error, but still not pointing me to where TLF TextFields are being used.
View 1 RepliesI'm planning to make a game that gives players the choice to search a word when selecting a character, and if that word is found, they get to play as them. I don't even have a clue what, where and how I am gonna put the list in the game for something to search it. I'll try to give an example:
A user puts "horse" into the input field, presses the "Search" button, and Flash searches the word "horse" in a list of maybe 30 or so words. If it returns no results, a message says, "keyword not found". If it is found, a picture of a horse comes up in the character preview box.
I need to create a search "thing"! I have a database with, for ex., 10 names, with age, color of eyes and hair. I need to create some form were you choose to search for someone between 20-30 years, blue eyes, brown hair, and then the results appear on a list with links to each case... did I made myself clear?

The problem with this code is i am using index value of 0. however i want to display the name of object on which i have clicked or which is highlighted.
By default, the iconFunction of List and Tree return only Class as the icon, which is for embeded images or iconUtility kindly provided by this site http:[url]...... It works very well with pre-created images.But what I really want is to accept a completely runtime generate sprite object, similar to what is done by Legend, with the color changes according to what the current status. I assume I could do something to make the ListBase to accept icon argument other than Class.
View 2 RepliesRecently I got trouble with totalFrames attribute of MovieClip object, this is the case: in Flash CS, I created two movieclips, one has say 10 frames animation, another one, I drag the first MC in to it, then the second MC has only one frame in it's own time line, right? Then I export them as SWC file to include them in my project. Here's the problem, when I'm trying to get total frame number of these to MC like below, I just get to actual number of frames in the second MC:

View 1 Repliesi'm working on a gallery that loads thumbnails from an xml file into 3 columns and when you click on a thumbnail it opens a new window with the fullsized image in.
I have modified code from a gallery tutorial to load the thumbnails from a xml file. They are going in 3 columns at the moment (I don't understand why but they are) but only the last image has a hand cursor when you rollover it, and then when you click on it, it traces "undefined" into the output box.
I have put

just below the bit where it loads the thumbnails and it traces the right path from the xml file for each image.
get it to trace the right path from the xml file when you click on ALL the thumbnails, not just the last one.
