I'm trying to get a link to an XML file passed from the Object Embed code into my Flash movie. (Not using SWFobject). I have 1 swf file that should be able to connect to 3 different XML files.

Right now it's not loading the XML file from the param.
I read almost everywhere that the wmode parameter had to be set to opaque (some said it could be either opaque or transparent). When setting this through the flashvars parameter (this is in Chrome btw) this did nothing. After a while of getting frustrated, I added it as a parameter itself through addParam, and hey presto now it works.Is this a simply a Chrome thing? FF it works seamlessly as it was. Even IE 7 and 8 are behaving slightly better. I wondered if this was a bug because supposedly adding a parameter to flashvars should do the trick.
View 1 RepliesI have a flash movie that tries to load an XML file on startup. Right now it looks for a hard-coded filename, but I'd really, really love to be able to pass a filename in through the webpage that plays it. (possibly through a param tag or some such?)

I'd like Flash to read this and do something:

when I run the movie, oneMC is still 0% alpha. Am I missing something/doing things the wrong way? How can I get Flash to recognize this parameter?
I'm having to pass data (originally read via an XML file loaded by the parent class) to a child class upon instantiation, and I can't decide which is the better method.I could parse the XML in the parent and throw the data into an Object and pass that object to the child class....or just pass the part it needs as an XMLList and let the child class do the parsing.Seems like a trivial decision, yes, but I'm not sure of longer-term implications.
View 3 RepliesI'm working on a Flash website for a while now, but just now I noticed that the link doesn't change (that's normal for a Flash application). But the thing is, the website needs to be 'shareable'. So my problem is; How can I get a param from the URL and read it in Flash? For example, when the url is [URL] The Flash application has to know that the article is 245 so it can go to the right article instead of just the homepage. How can this be done? (By the way, I'm using actionscript 2)

I've embed dynamically(with swfobject) this swf to my page. It's ok. Then I send ajax-request to script, which reloading div with flash. Div is empty.
Experimentally I found out that I've trouble with relative paths. Flash file embed with this address ./swf/audio/player.swf and mp3-address is ./media/audio/user/1/random.mp3.

I have a class (ImageLoader) that extends Sprite container and loads an external image to its instance. When i instantiate an object of this class from another (Main) class i want to have the dimensions (width, height) of the loaded image being known to this (Main) class. It seems that is difficult for me as the dimensions are known after the image compete loaded. But i don't know how to pass this information from completeHandler event handler to the Main class.

I have an object that has all the elements I would want to pass arguments: var args:Object = { 'dog', 11, myArray }; and I want to be able to pass the contents of args to doSomething without making any changes to doSomething (assume it's someone else's function) and I'd like to do it in a way that doesn't assume I will know anything about the contents of args.

Basically I will have some features available to certain users and I realise that for the average user they will not know anything about how to send spoof vars but is it possible for someone to change the variables sent using SWFObject when a page loads and thus be able to use the functionality that I am trying to disable for them.I have a PHP (my_flash_movie.php) page that calls a function from an included globals.php file to determine if the user can see the restricted functionality is_ user_a_subscriber($_SESSION['user_id']); which returns 1 or 0. This 1 or 0 is then passed to Flash which enables or disables certain features. I dont want someone to be able to send a 1 instead of a 0 basically. This isnt a site where security is critical and the functionality that is disabled is not really critical either so wouldnt be too bad if this happened but im just curious about this and wondering if I should think of another way to pass these vars that might be more hidden.
View 3 RepliesI am really pulling my hair out with this one. Flash game, container swf loads a img using the loader class. The image is the map which will be used on the levels. The problem im having is that I originaly had each level load the map image, convert to a bitmap, and us it to create x and y's for colision detection.
the problem was that the game was loading and sometimes the map image hadent loaded. It also ment that each level was loading the same image and if the above happened on the 3rd, 4th level it was very annoying. So I need a way to load the image in the parent, but have it available to the child, however it must be available as at bitmap to work.

The Context of the Problem.I'm working on a rotator banner in flash. I use an external xml file to pass the banners info (like info-text, link, image-path, priority, etc). Everything is going well so far. I'm loading the xml something like this:

The Problem itself.Now I need to construct this xml on-the-fly in php and somehow pass it to my flash object. So instead of read the external file I want my flash script receive an xml parameter it can work with.
In May 2008 (about three years ago, as of the time of this posting), an engineer who worked on Flash Player 10 wrote the following in a blog post talking about GPU compositing:Just because the Flash Player is using [GPU compositing] does not mean it will be faster. In the majority of cases your content will become slower... Content has to be specifically designed to work well with GPU functionality. The software rasterizer in the Flash Player can optimize a lot of cases the GPU cannot optimize, you as the designer will have to be aware of what a GPU does and adapt your content accordingly. By successful I am talking about some sort of report or document or whatever.
I know its fairly simple to print a component(which is a bit cheap) from Flex by using the printJob() class and passing a component. But I want to pass an object like a list or XML to printJob().
I have the Class and the parameters of its contructor as an object. What I need to do is a function that returns an instance of this class, passing this parameters to the constructor.
This is the code:
Some random and unmodifiable class:

View 0 RepliesI have one movie clip that sits partially over top of another movie clip. The underlying movie clip has a ROLL_OVER effect on it. Is it possible for the mouse to somehow activate the ROLL_OVER only when the mouse cursor moves over a portion of the overlying movieclip when it's over top the underlying movie clip? In other words, the ROLL_OVER event should be triggered by the mouse cursor as through the overlying movie clip wasn't even there, when the mouse rolls over that area.
