I'd like to know if there is any cross browser light-weight invisible sound players that are controlled by JavaScript, but not using any frameworks like jQuery.
I'm not looking to use HTML5 at all. So maybe a solution that uses Flash.
Something that is not more than load() and play().
I have a video that is meant to start playing when a user clicks on an image and said image opens a FancyZoom overlay. It works fine in every browser except IEs. If I place the video in a div that is not hidden (display:none actually), the video starts as expected. So it seems there is a problem with either Flash, JW Player, SWFObject or any combination of these when trying to load a video in a hidden div.[URL]..

The player needs to be javascript enabled (support methods like play, stop etc.) The mp3 tracklist will be built dynamically using ajax on the same page as the player so it must trigger an event when a track finishes playing (or at least provide functionality of some kind to indicate that it's time to start the next track). Does anyone know of such a player?

Flash is not in my toolset, but I am an old Director jock and have spent some hours dipping my head into the Flash manual. I suppose that makes me a promising beginner-level poster. I'm working in CS5.
I need to make a simple Flash-based sound player for a website for a newly-released novel (http://www.bearriverbooks.com/index.html). I want the user to click on what appears to be an icon (or image), which kicks open a simple controller and starts playing a sound file (a radio interview, which I will probably export using Flash's voice compression). Nothing fancy. Just want the visitor to hear the sound and be able to apply simple controls (stop/start/rewind/volume).
I can learn ActionScript, I suppose, since I used to dream in Lingo, but my life would be a lot simpler if I could just publish a controller without having to roll my own. I'd like to think there's a magic button somewhere that can do this, but I haven't found it yet.
Is it possibleto get the sound volume of of a specific frame or specific time of sound item with the Flash Javascript API maybe together with Action Script?

Right now I go to my management page with a WYSIWYG-editor, type in the messages/updates, which saves it to a .txt file (alert.txt) and it updates the page on the screens via AJAX. The page on the screens checks for updates at a set interval of 5 seconds. What I want to do now is play a sound to alert when an update is given (the screen only displays critical network errors and such)[code]I've tried adding the sound clip via an embed HTML code (created a Flash object that plays it once upon loading the Flash object) to the text file, but this causes it to play once every iteration. I want a link to trigger a sound click in flash AS3. I've taken the .play() outside of the function to confirm that it works by itself. What am I missing that will let me call an AS3 function from javascript?

While the question may seem fairly basic I seem to be at a loss to actually find anything that fits my needs, which are:
Skinnable (although not 100% required) Controllable through javascript (start, stop, change track)Event triggers for custom functions (on track finish mainly) Actual documentation - rather that 'it can do this, but we wont tell you how' I've tried many of the free and quite a few demo's of the pay for ones. Wimpy Wasp seemed to be the closest to what I need but there is an obsession there with using a custom Windows app to set it up which is impossible as the files are provided dynamically by the sites users and it doesn't look like they want you to be able to create the code yourself.

I'm working on a site, for kids, which has a small avatar in the corner that talks.The avatar is a flash file and the plan is to determine what it says through a mix of javascript and ajax.
Unfortunately when I make the flash file play an Mp3 file through JavaScript, I can't seem to stop the sound.. so when I keep clicking on a link which causes it to talk, I hear the sound repeated x times.
The odd thing is, when I attach the very same code to a button in flash, there seems to be no such limitation. It seems as if it won't store anything in global variables when calling from JavaScript.
I it possible to prelowad a sound file with javascript (or gwt) and feed it to a flashplayer without a server roundtrip?I would like to play the sound right after a uses clisks a button on a web site without a delay caused by server roundtrip.

View 1 RepliesI'm sure this is me just being an idiot but I have a problem with an mp3 player I've built based on the AS2/XML tutorial on this website. Basically, everything works fine in Flash (running CS4) but when I open the HTML page, it doesn't play any sound at all. I've tried all sorts of configurations of object and embed tags but nothing seems to work. All the sound files are referred to via XML and the .swf, .xml and .mp3s are all located in the same directory.

View 5 RepliesI am using a embeddable Flash based MP3 player (The standalone Version of Wordpress Audio Player, to be exact) to play audio on the web page of a client. Given the nature of Flash based players - AFAIK they all use Flash's audio/video decoding libraries - the exact player product might not matter, though. She complains that some specific audio files sometimes tend to play slowly, as if on a tape deck that doesn't run at full speed. Her machine is a 5 year old Sony Vaio with a 1.5 GhZ Pentium M Processor.
So it's not top of the line anymore but it should not have trouble decoding anything, let alone a MP3 audio stream. I can't verify the problem because we can't set up an audio connection (slow Internet on a remote island), nor can I reproduce it on my 3.3 GhZ dual-code Workstation, but this is a person whose error reports have seldom turned out unfounded in the past, so I tend to take them seriously. I see differences between the encodings of the MP3 files (see below). Any pointers towards which setting(s) to change?

I have a flash player with an external javascript interface: reloadData() I'm calling that function via Javascript when editing information on the page - basically to keep data on the page and in the player in synch. The reloadData() function works fine when the player is hosted locally. When we move it to the CDN (Amazon Cloudfront), the player loads successfully, but the external javascript interface no longer works - console.log(player) reveals the following:

I'm basically looking for something that can play/stream a variety of formats if possible (or if not, to have an easy way for non-technies to convert them to the desired format). I'm also looking for something easy to setup - like including a javascript tag at the top of the page and then perhaps using a div, or just 1 line of script code to make it work. If it's flash, then have to be simple to setup too.
